Baby Products Reviews of Prince Lionheart Ultimate Wipes Warmer

Customer Review: Great for intended use
Summary: 4 Stars

I wanted a wipe warmer for the simple fact of making diaper changes more comfortable for my son. This works so great as long as you frequently check the sponge at the bottom. It's very easy to do so don't let the other reviews fool you. All you have to do is press down on it and see if any moisture comes up. If you let it dry out, it's useless because it gets brick hard-trust me. I'd say you have to re-wet it twice a week and I would buy a new one every 3 months like it says. I don't put the whole holder filled with wipes and that makes it easier. I'd also rather not use any pop up wipes with it because using that mechanism doesn't keep them as warm. I like to open up the whole top part and pull out a nice warm wipe instead of a half way warmed wipe thru the top hole. And I've never had a problem with the top not staying latched-yes, I have used the top part plenty to know this.
I made the mistake of letting my sponge get dry and it turned brown and hard so I already need to buy a new one before I can use it again. I also didn't buy distilled water, just used water out of our Brita pitcher and that works fine.
The reason I gave it 4 stars is how often you have to maintain the water level of the sponge. It would be nice if you didn't have to check it so often and worry about it drying out so quick and turning into a brick.
But it works great for its intended use and keeps baby happy as well.

Customer Review: Not bad... better than any others I ended up trying.

We bought this at Babies R Us and are not impressed. The wipes are warm, but the opening in the top is so big that a whole string of wipes come out at one time, making it impossible to keep one hand on baby while reaching for the wipes. The opening should be smaller so the wipes SEPARATE while pulling them through the top opening. If I wasn't so used to it by now, I'd just use electrical tape to cover part of the hole so only one came out at a time.

(Would change it to "***" or "****" if I could after 6mo. of use.)

And two years later..... just adding to this review here at 28 months... the top does not stay shut sometimes. This isn't new. We had this with the first one and I exchangeded it to Toys R Us at the time. After many months of use, the darn latch STILL was not working, so I called the company. They were REALLY GREAT and sent me a new lid at no cost to me. Guess what? Same problem. The lids just don't latch well for some reason! I deal with it when it occasionally happens. I have no idea what makes this happen (humidity? heat/cold?) but I stand there and hit close, close, close, close, close until it shuts. Sometimes if you shove a wipe in the latch it helps close it, or at least un-jam it. Very wierd. Maybe I have a wipes warmer ghost, but I have had problems with their lids from day one.

I had to have a c-section with my daughter, which means we had to stay downstairs in our living room for the first couple of weeks. We had already brought so many things downstairs that our living room looked like a nursery. I decided that I really didn't need the wipes warmer downstairs that it would just be a pain in the butt and she could do without it. When we finally did move upstairs and I started using her wipes from her wipes warmer I realized what a huge mistake I made by not taking it downstairs. She was always very squirmy when I changed her diapers, so I just thought she didn't like her diaper being changed. She stopped the squirming when I started to use the warm wipes. Warming wipes in your hands just does not work.........I tried it when we were out and about. I have never had a problem with the wipes drying out. I think as long as you follow the instructions and put water on the pad, you will be fine. The only problem that I found with this warmer is that it doesn't work good with Huggies wipes. You have to open the entire lid to get them out. Pampers work the best in this warmer. This is a great product and it will make your baby very happy at 3 am when she wakes up and needs a diaper change. How would you like someone putting something cold on your butt after just waking up?

Customer Review: one of my best investments
Summary: 5 Stars

I used mine for a little more than 4 years, then passed it on to a friend. I too thought this was a waste of money, until the first time my boy screamed when I slapped a cold wipe on his bare little bottom...so off I went to purchase a wipes warmer. Even now I find myself running warm water on the toddler potty wipes before I help him, I certainly wouldn't want something cold there, you know. Also, I find baby wipes just out of the package somewhat dry; this warmer helps keep them very moist and warm, you must maintain it properly. Here's what I've discovered after 4 years; throw about 3/4 cup water once a week in the warmer, unplug it while on vacation, if the pad at the bottom gets "yucky" simply wash it with warm water, a bit of mild soap, squeeze it while washing, it comes pretty clean and takes only a minute once every couple months. At the same time clean out the warmer, just wipe it clean, no big deal. I only used 5 replacement pads in 4 yrs. If your child doesn't mind cold wipes, wonderful! one less thing to buy; I know you could hold wipes in your hand for a few seconds to warm them a bit, but there were messy times when I couldn't get wipes out fast enough to use. Huggies don't fit right, Pampers and most generic brands do.

Customer Review: It's good if you need one.

First off, I put wipe warmers in the same space as diaper pails - you really don't "need" them. However, if you decide you really want one, this is a good one to get.

You definatley need to get "pop up" wipes, otherwise you'll have to open the unit every time you want to get a wipe out. We never had a problem with browning, and only added some tap water to the pad with every refill. When we refilled with a pack of Costco wipes, the warmer lid wouldn't stay completely closed since it was slightly more wipes than the unit could hold - hardly a flaw with the unit itself. We got around it by resting an object on the lid to keep it shut until some wipes were used up. It does a good job warming the wipes. The push button lid release is very handy and easy to operate with one hand - easier than the lids on some store bought wipe packages. The biggest benefit: the opening in the lid has little "jaws" that you can use to grab the edge of the next wipe. So you can always just pull 1 wipe out. Nothing more annoying than grabbing a wipe and ending up with 3 stuck together.

Sadly to say it does not change the laws of physics and any wet wipe will still cool off if held in the air. So use the wipe and don't stand there holding it.
