Baby Products Reviews of Prince Lionheart Ultimate Wipes WarmerCustomer Review: It's ok for my triplets Summary: 3 Stars
We have 8 month old triplets. We decided after they first came home to get a wipes warmer. With just one baby we wouldn't have bothered, but with three you have to do every thing you can to make them all happy, especially as newborns in the middle of the night. That quick chill would make them cry and wake up the others. So a wipes warmer helped us. It was the first one I had ever used. It does keep them warm but they chill back up quickly, no matter if you buy the thick or thin wipes. Yes, you MUST be particular of the wipes you buy. Usually if it states that they "pop up", they do. We can't afford the Pampers wipes. We buy the least expensive such as the Walmart brand or the ones at our local commissary. They're thinner but they do the same job. I mean, wipes are just for poop for crying out loud, lol. But the least expensive that say "pop up" is a must. You may have to do the trial and error as we did. The thicker wipes do stick more and make the entire lid come open, another plus for the thinner wipes, lol. But this unit did make the wipes brown. You have to be very attentive to changing the pads regularly and rinsing them with almost every refill with distilled water, which with triplets is just time consuming. If you would like this luxery than it's a fine buy or if you need it like in our case with newborn triplets. But it's not a necessity. My older two children never had one and they survived fine, lol.
UPDATE:
Yes, it keeps the wipes warm. Yes, there's no browning, but that doesn't mean that the wipes don't dry out. We use 3+ times more wipes than for a single baby with our triplets. You would think they wouldn't dry out as fast, but they do. You have to buy an antibacterial pad (which comes with your first purchase) that you wet before adding the wipes. They say it needs to be replaced every three months but we've found that it needs to be replaced more often than that. The pad will turn brown and dry out in a matter of a week or two whether you keep rinsing it and adding fresh water or not, and we rinse it and add fresh water to the pad with every new pack of wipes we use, and it doesn't matter what brand of wipes you use either, lol. We go through a pack of wipes in just a few days and sometimes much less time. But a wipes warmer is a nice luxury to have, anything to keep the whining down to a minimum with three babies. Out of all the warmers we've checked out though, this still seems to be the best on the market right now. Just keep up on rinsing and adding fresh water, allot, with every new wipes pack you add. And keep the lid closed at all times. What helps to keep the wipes wet is the condensation that builds up inside that builds on the lid and drips down to the wipes.
Customer Review: My baby loves it! Summary: 5 Stars
As always, I read the reviews of others before posting my own, so I will comment based on that.
First of all, as long as we're at home, I always change my baby's diaper in his bedroom on his changing table. Therefore, my Wipes Warmer is always where I need it. But I must say that even if I did change his diaper in every room of the house during the day, this is something I'd consider buying anyway. It is so nice to have it for middle-of-the-night or first-thing-in-the-morning diaper changes, when my son may not be in the mood to be shocked with a cold wipe. When I change him when we're out and about, he always has a look of shock when I use a cold wipe.
A couple people complained about the temperature of the wipes and/or dryness. The directions state to moisten the pad with water and place it in the bottom of the warmer. Then you put the wipes on top and plug in the warmer. One thing I have found is that you can put the pad in the bottom of the warmer and actually pour water right into the warmer, rather than just wetting the pad. I add enough water to saturate the pad and fill the warmer probably 1/4". Then I put in the wipes. Having the excess water keeps the pad moist longer. I do not need to add water until it's time to refill the wipes supply. This keeps the wipes REALLY moist, which makes wiping up baby even easier, and which I think helps the wipes warm up even better.
It does take a little while for the wipes to warm up after refilling, but this is to be expected since the warmer can only get so hot or you'd burn your baby's bottom with the wipes! I would say the wipes are pretty warm by the time you get to your next diaper change. And within a few hours, they are definitely all warm. I have not had any problems with the wipes getting cold faster than I can use them. I even place one wipe on my son (in case he decides to squirt!) while I use another to wipe his bottom, and I can go back to the first one to do a final wipe and it still isn't cold.
Regarding reviews stating that the inside lid doesn't stay shut...the only time the lid didn't stay shut on mine is when I overfilled it and the lid couldn't shut properly. As long as I don't overfill it, the lid NEVER pops open when I pull out a wipe.
Basically, if you use the product the way it was was intended to be used (change diapers in the room where the warmer is, keep the pad very moist, and don't overfill it!), there is absolutely nothing wrong with this product and it's a great thing to have for baby's comfort.
Customer Review: No more startling baby with cold wipes! Summary: 5 Stars
This is a GREAT item to have for new babies! I've read a lot of complaints about it dryin the wipes out, but any wipe warmer will do that if not properly maintained (read the instructions). I've tested several different brands/types of baby wipes with this, and THE WIPES THAT WORK BEST WITH THIS WARMER ARE: *HUGGIES SUPREME* (the plain, unscented, non-aloe/shea butter/whatever else, in the red package that says "Huggies Supreme") and you can get them in big refill packages. They rarely ever dry out in the warmer, even when the insert is dryed out; all other wipes I've ever tried with this have dried out, even when the "stay-moist" pad was kept watered.
Basically, when your wipes run out, touch the "stay-moist" pad, the special insert to keep the wipes moist DOES dry out itself from time to time, but if you soak it in distilled water for about 10 minutes you can put it back in and it works just fine. Also, what I did was unplug this (you can disconnect the cord @ the back of the unit, without have to unplug from the wall, which is a nice feature) during the day when we were gone and plugged it back in when we arrived back home, which also helped to keep the wipes moist.
This is such a nice thing to have especiially for the first 6-mo. to 1-year, for those middle-of-the-night feedings and changes. The warm wipes really help to keep the baby calm, because cold wipes can sometimes shock them when they've just woken up and are hungry and crabby anyway. Just imagine, if YOU wake-up @ 3 am, you stomach is howling for food, it's dim and dark, you have a squishy sack of something strapped around your waist, and then someone takes a cold, moist washrag and puts it on your neck. You'd probably yell and curse. Well, babies do, too, when wipes are cold. It was wonderful to NOT have a howling newborn at 2-o'clock in the morning, when mommy (and/or daddy) is drowsy and sleep-deprived. It lessend the stress on everyone.
I used this up until my son was about 1-1/2, then I realized that he was probably old enough to go without. He had to get used to the cold wipes, but after a while he didn't miss much.
I recommend this to all expecting mothers and have given it as a baby shower/new baby gift on several ocassions, just because it's a nice "luxury" item to have that not many people think of getting (with all the other planning going on). Makes a great gift, and is on my "MUST HAVE" list for for new babies!
Customer Review: A waste of money Summary: 2 Stars
First of all, we cloth diaper and wipe - so this review is based on our experiences using it with cloth wipes and home made wipe solution (distilled water, olive oil, baby wash, and essential oils). Because of this, issues like browning and drying out didn't really apply to us.My baby was born in November, and it was pretty chilly around here at that time. We started out using just water and cloth wipes on him, and it seemed to take forever to get the water to run warm in the bathroom in the middle of the night. I hated to put cold water on his little bum when he was already so upset at the indignity of having his diaper changed. I thought a wipe warmer would be a nice thing to have - this despite the fact that just a few months earlier, I thought the idea was ridiculous and unnecassary. We started using the wipe warmer when he was maybe a week old. By then, I thought it would be OK to no longer just use water to wipe him with, so I began using the warmer with my cloth wipes (baby washcloths) and home made solution. First of all, the warmer seemed to warm very inconsistantly. Sometimes the wipes would just be room temperature. Sometimes they were quite toasty. This wasn't a huge deal, as the issue was really to get the chill off, but it did seem kind of weird. Second, with home made wipes, you can't use the pop-up feature. I knew this when I bought it, so this didn't upset or surprise me. However, when you open the warmer in the non-pop-up fashion... as others mentioned, it does leak water from condensation building up inside. This was pretty irritating. Third, the warmer made our wipes smell downright funky. I don't know if this is an issue with store bought, disposable wipes, but it was pretty nasty. After using this warmer for about two months, I ended up moving my wipes to an old Pampers wipes container. I also began adding white vinegar to my solution, which might have taken care of the funkiness issue even with the warmer, but even without this issue, I don't think the warmer was worth my while (or money). My baby has no problems with room temperature wipes. The warmer might reappear next time I have a newborn in the house, but I doubt it.
Customer Review: It works as advertised! Summary: 4 Stars
I registered for the Ultimate Wipes Warmer and received it as a shower gift. I set up the warmer as soon as I started using baby wipes instead of a soft cloth and water to clean my daughter's diaper area. I would say that overall it's a good product for infants/younger babies, but as your baby gets older and doesn't mind cooler wipes, it's not worth the hassle to keep the wipes warmer in working order. It IS important TO READ THE INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE USING YOUR WIPES WARMER! I'll address some issues others have complained about:
1. Someone wrote that Huggies wipes do not work in the warmer- you have to buy the pop-up wipes, no matter which brand...they will all work in the wipes warmer.
2. Another reviewer compained that the lid kept popping open. There is a tab on the lid that you can adjust to control the "tension". If the lid is too loose, pull the tab towards you so it's tight enough to stay closed.
3. Again, read directions- it's not that difficult! Someone wrote that after a week, the pad that keeps the wipes moist dried out. You have to moisten the pad with distilled/purified water at least twice a week so the wipes will not dry out. Also, at least once every 2 weeks you must wash the pad, either in the laundry or just wash it out in the sink. The pads may not be cheap, but each pad in the 2-pack lasts for 3 months.
Personally, I have found that Huggies wipes work better in the warmer, because Pampers wipes tend to get too wet and sometimes 2 wipes will come out. As long as you maintain this product according to the manufacturer's instructions, it will work fine. I have never found dried-out or brown wipes in my wipes warmer. Now that my daughter is 4 1/2 months old and she has always been perfectly happy having her diaper changed on outings when I obviously didn't have my wipes warmer on hand, I have retired the warmer until the next baby. Now I just use a pop-up tub and keep buying refills.
The Ultimate Wipes Warmer gets 4 stars from me only because you do have to keep up with it, and believe me when I tell you Moms, DAD probably won't do it! (They expect the wipes to just be there, ready and waiting.)
