There's no way to put this stuff on that your kid won't pull it off. If they made the glue strong enough to hold the foam on better, it would destroy furniture. If you don't care about your furniture, go get some stronger glue and use that or buy the kits that screw in. For what it's worth, I've tried installing it at night and once I even left it for more that a week (installing prior to vacation). My kid has no problem pulling it off. It's like they're compelled to do it. ;) I even used rubbing alcohol on the surface first to make sure it would stick. The good news is that you can get the stuff off without damaging your furniture, the bad news is that it will be a pain in the butt to do. I recommend using Goo Gone - the orange oil version, not the harsher version that would damage your furniture's finish. If you plan to place the bumpers on again after, you MUST clean the surface with something that will remove all the oil.
That said, it's a pretty easy product to work with. I had no problems cutting it with my kitchen scissors and you don't need to measure it if you buy the kit with the corners. Just install the corners first and then install the bumper until you're about 4 inches from the next corner, then you'll be able to see where you need to cut. Measuring doesn't work as well because it's difficult not to stretch the foam a bit as you go (though you should take care not to do so).
