We have a stove that is only next to one counter, meaning that three of the four burners would typically be within toddler reach. We actually bought two of these and put one along the side of the stove and the other along the front. We've now had it up for about 18 months. We did have to replace the tape on the front one one time, because I have a tendancy to lean into it while cooking and it did eventually lose its sticky-ness and fall off. However, this was after at least 6-12 months of use, and the Prince Lionheart website sells replacement tape for a very reasonable price ($1.75 a set, with quite reasonable shipping). Now that we're expecting another baby, by big belly has once again loosened it to the point that I can tell that it's going to fall off soon, and I plan to go ahead and order a couple more sets of replacement tape (or I may try to go to the local office max to see if 3M might make a similar type of double sided tape and sell it by the roll), as it looks like we're going to want it up and in place for at least a couple more years! I'm not sure why others have had more trouble getting theirs to stick and stay stuck to their stove. We have a fairly old electric model stovetop. Nothing special about it or the texture of it - just your standard metal stovetop. I typically wash it well and let it dry completely before sticking the tape to it, and again, haven't had any trouble. In particular, the guard that we have on the side of the stove (the side that I don't lean into at all), hasn't had to be put back up at all!
All in all, it's one of the best houseproofing items we've purchased. I feel like I can use all four of my burners and not worry about little fingers, or which way the handle of the pot is turned. Definately recommended!
