Customer Review: No Bottle is perfect, but this is the closest we found.

Our baby was colicky, crying very frequently whether breastfed, bottle-fed, or otherwise (if you've had to syringe-feed before, you know how frustrating this can get). So, I have to say, my wife and I had to become EXPERTS about bottles as we went through (not even exaggerating) 8 different bottle styles/brands before we found something that would work. Please note - no bottle is perfect for every baby, but for a fussy baby (and you don't like throwing out a liner), this might be the perfect solution.
We've tried Nuby bottles (nipple is way too fast for a newborn, baby choked, also, unvented and spring-back to shape which makes TONS of bubbles), Dr. Brown's (if you're trying to breastfeed with a fussy baby, these bottles feed so quickly (even the slowest ones) that our baby started refusing the breast - too easy to get milk), mam (nothing special), born free (nothing special here either)....before we found these. We wanted a "wide" nipple to try to prevent nipple confusion. we wanted a slow nipple that made the baby have to "work" to get the milk so that they wouldn't get too accustomed to being lazy and refuse the breast. We wanted something that would reduce gas and air intake as much as possible (nothing does this perfectly, but having some sort of venting system and/or drop-ins that shrink as milk leaves the bottle is the best solution we've found). We wanted something with various replacable nipple speeds available for as baby got older. We wanted something easy to clean that also didn't leak.
It was a tall order to fill. We initially settled on the drop-ins but cringed every time we added plastic to a landfill, and hated that we had to keep buying liners. At first, we thought it was just a necessary evil to fill all of the other above listed requirements. Until I saw these ventaire bottles. WOOHOOOOO, finally we found something that worked 8 types of bottles later.
pros: BPA free. wide nipple to prevent nipple confusion. multiple replacement nipples of varying speeds from super slow to nice and speedy(these take the drop-in nipples just fine). all silicone/hard plastic construction - no latex rubber to avoid allergic reactions (also, rubber eventually breaks down). Nothing to throwaway - completely reusable. Comes completely apart for easy cleaning (bottom and top come off the bottle).
cons: it does, very infrequently, leak if the bottom silicone piece is not placed snuggly upon bottle assembly. a necessary evil to keep the vent. There are a lot of parts, meaning if you're not careful, you could lose something. They are not the cheapest bottles around.
Look, if all you care about is feeding your baby fast, and your not trying to Bfeed, dr. browns or born free, or any other number of options are probably your best bet. But if you're trying to Bfeed, and you want to prevent nipple confusion, and you have all of the same requirements we had above, stop looking. just click the "add to cart" and move on with your life.
EDIT - 5/16/10
These bottles, from my understanding, do differ in materials used versus the "original" ventaire bottles. I have only used the crystal clear - from what i've heard, the original (colored plastic) bottles have several small issues like the writing rubbing off, older versions had BPA. The crystal clear bottles do not have these issues.
Also, we've found that these bottles will leak if you use "FAST" speed nipples. Use MEDIUM instead (you can find that fit drop-ins - they are exactly the same size) - they, in general, do not leak.
