Baby Products Reviews of Playtex Premium Nurser Newborn Gift SetCustomer Review: Playtex Nurser Good for Breast Fed Babies Summary: 5 Stars
My breastfed baby would not take any of the slow flow orthodonic nipples that are usually recommended. The old Playtex nipple design was reported to cause nipple confusion so I was not even going to try this but I saw the product in a store and noticed that they have redesigned it with this new NatraLatch nipple. I tried it and it turned out that this is the only nipple my baby would take. The other slow flow nipples (Avent, Nuk, Medulla) were all too fast for him and he wouldn't take them. When I tried this one, I was able to get him to take it in one sitting. The design allows him to latch on a way that is very similar to breastfeeding, at least judging by his positioning and how far back into his mouth the nipple will comfortably go without choking him. I do not know about nipple confusion as I did not do bottle and breast concurrently but based on his position when using this bottle, I would be surprised if that was an issue. This is a great choice if your baby is drowning in the other slow-flow nipples that are currently recommended and you are having trouble getting him or her to take a bottle. The disposable liners are also convenient and you have less washing/sterilizing and need for bottle storage space.
Customer Review: Excellent at keeping out the air, with the right nipple! Summary: 5 Stars
I changed to this bottle system after using Avent and my daughter developed colic. After trying different combinations (i.e. ez feed, 8 oz., 4 oz., etc.) I found that the new tri-cut nipples are the perfect solution for my baby getting no air. With the slow nipple my daughter could push air back into the bag and also taking it out of her mouth to burp her, the bag would fill back up with air. You can push this air back out, but when the bottle is nearing empty it gets harder to do. Don't waste money on the EZ Feed because it is not a really good concept. The bag gets trapped between the burper and the side of the bottle, and once you get to the top it is useless. The BEST combination is the 4 or 8 oz bottle (original or premium) and the TRI-CUT nipple. This nipple only allows the milk to come out when it is pulled or sucked. Therefore, no air can get in the bag. Even when you are pushing the air out after you first make the bottle you have to squeeze the tip of the nipple to let it out. It is ver AIR TIGHT. They are a little more expensive than the slow or fast nipples, but definitely worth the money. I wish Playtex would include the tri-cut when you buy the bottle so we would not waste the one it comes with.
Customer Review: Cured our latching problems Summary: 5 Stars
I knew from the time I was pregnant that I would be combining breast and bottle feeding so I chose the Playtex system. When we were in the hospital, I had two lactation nurses in my room for an hour straight trying to help my daughter latch on. She wouldn't open her mouth correctly and it was very painful. They discouraged me from using a bottle until this problem resolved and gave her formula from a spoon so she wouldn't get too hungry. She got more on her than in her, so I sent my husband home for the bottles I had bought. Once we were home, I pumped for 3 days while using this bottle. She learned how to open her mouth correctly without me having to go through that agony and when we tried nursing again, she did it perfectly. Now at 3 months old, she's a champion at the breast and the bottle. I love the drop-ins when you have a fussy baby and only one hand free and like everyone else I love how you can use the premium nipples in the regular nursers. I was willing to pump full time if I had to in order for my daughter to get the benefits of breast milk, but thanks to Playtex, we didn't have to miss out on what I personally feel is a very special experience between mother and baby and I'm grateful.
Customer Review: best for nursing moms and babies Summary: 5 Stars
I know some breastfed babies never take to a bottle but I feel this one greatly increases your chances! It was recommended to me by a lactation consultant and now I have become quite the spokesperson them. The nipple is softer like mom and with the design and the slow flow nipple they work like mommy too giving baby consistancy and mom and break. And sometimes they aren't rejecting the brand of bottle/nipple they are rejecting the container- they want the original container- as my husband said "she doesn't want take out- she wants some home cookin'". I know my daughter started off with these bottles and was doing fabulous- then poof she went thru a spell where she wanted mommy to feed her and no one else- which even though I'm working part time -- it was still stressful to think she was hungry and not eating while I was away from her- we kept trying and just as I was about to loose hope- she starting taking the bottle like a champ again- her caregivers all found ways for her to take the bottle from them- it was just different positioning! ie: My husband uses the boppy pillow on his lap and she half sits lays in it facing him- I think she associated the other position with me. hope this helps
Customer Review: Love these bottles!!! Summary: 4 Stars
We have been using these bottles since day 1 (actually day 3 or 4) with our son and we love them. I was unable to continue breastfeeding and had received these as a gift so we gave them a try. It's a great system. My son adjusted well to the nipples and we are still using the slow flow (he is 3 1/2 mo. old but a slow eater sometimes). They felt much softer than the avent nipples (we don't care for those bottles anyway). Some people complain about the extra expense of the liners but it is not much and the ease of the system makes it worth while. We have also not had any break on us, even in the diaper bag when they're being transported. When I was pumping, I even froze the milk in the liners and they thawed so easily and quickly. I needed extra caps and found that the avent caps fit well. I gave them a four however, because we are reaching 6+ ounces at times, and 8 oz. just don't seem to fit very well. You definitely couldn't mix 7 or 8 oz in them at all. However, even though we'll have to switch when he reaches past 6 (I think we'll go to Vent Aire) it was well worth it for as long as we could use them. I highly recommend them to friends and will use them with my next baby.
