Customer Review: A Classic "Must Have".
Summary: 5 Stars

I absolutely love these bottles. I have the older style, (this version's bottle is made of a slightly harder plastic than the ones i bought right before they changed over). But that's not really too important. The nipples and inserts are still exactly the same. And that's what really matters. In the beginning I was a "combo breast/bottle" mom and found these to be the best for the transition between. I tried other brands like Avent, First Years, and a few other "regular" style ones, but my son had the most success with the playtex system and he still prefers it at 10 months. There are a few different styles of nipples to choose from based on age and preference (they give you a variety in the set). And you can opt to use the classic flat bags (old style sold separately) or the new and truely awesome "drop ins" that come with the package. I think they're great because there's less mess and they fit the bottles perfectly. A great thing about using this type of bottle is that you don't need to take extra bottles or worry about washing out any if you go somewhere. Just take extra bags and throw away as you use them. And one of the best reasons for this system is the air bubble problem that seems to plague most young babies. I found this type to be the best at lessening and sometimes eliminating such instances. I highly recommend this system.

Customer Review: Dr. Brown's are better
Summary: 3 Stars

There are two main benefits to these bottles:
(1) Really easy clean-up
(2) Because the liner is so thin, they warm up quickly

However, there are three big negatives:
(1) Drop-ins are expensive and the regular ones are time consuming to fill. First you have to make sure the bag is properly aligned to avoid leaks. You have to make sure they open properly to get enough milk inside and then you have to tear off the edges.
(2) Every time my daughter takes a break in her eating and pushes the bottle out of her mouth - or if she needs to be burped - air starts filling and it has to be pushed out again. My daughter is very impatient and hates to wait for that to be done once she is ready to begin eating again.
(3) To push the air out, you have to stick your hand in the bottle. Since I breastfeed, my husband gives her bottles at night or when I am away. It is hard for him to get his hands in there, particularly when he has to push the air out mid-feed. I tried it myself and it was a tight squeeze for me so I can only imagine how uncomfortable it is for him!

I found that Dr. Brown's do just as good a job - if not better - in reducing air intake. They are not that difficult to clean. I just pop them in the dishwasher. They are easier to use during feedings.

Customer Review: Not my personal favorite; Please READ for new moms.

I know that Playtex Nursers have been around for ages, and my mother told me that she used Playtex with me when I was a baby, so I decided that that was the bottle I was going to use for my first baby girl. Big mistake! It took me five months to realize that I was going out of my way for nothing! 1st problem: inconvenient disposable bags; yes, they may be more sanitary in some ways and more convenient in some ways, but I DISAGREE due to the leakage(of regular and drop-ins) around the nipple and ring, and inconvenient due to not being able to heat the bottle in the bag(you'll need to pour it into another heating glass and then back into the bottle); 2nd problem: I do not understand how this bottle is supposed to prevent air when the bottle does not keep air out; you have to constantly push the air back our of the bottle between burping and once the milk gets lower than four ounces, its nearly impossible to get your hand that far up the bottle to get the air out! Very disappointing considering I bought 3 starter kits, and now have over 20 bottles that I refuse to use. Meanwhile, all the time my infant was diagnosed with the worst colic; constant crying and pushing and struggling with gas. I now use Dr. Brown's bottle and I recommend them 100% for new and experienced moms!

Customer Review: Awesome to use after the baby's formula days are over!
Summary: 4 Stars

I love these bottles. Both of my sons used them after they were done taking formula (at 12 months you can switch to regular milk). No fuss at all! The greatest thing is I never had a problem with leakage -- and the bottles look cute and do not look cheap at all. The best part is -- NO MORE STERELIZING! However I still microwaved the nipples after washing them, simply by placing them in a bowl with some water and microwaving for a few minutes...these bottles are GOD SEND!!!

Avent? Forget it!!! All it does is leak! Let's face it...we all wanted Avent at first because it's so "cool" looking and it seems like all the cool moms have Avent for their babies...but really -- for your newborn???? Stick with the Gerber 99 cents bottles you can get at K-Mart or your local grocery store...yes, you will be sterelizing...but after 1 year...you can switch to the playtex disposables and life is JUST GREAT. Will I recommend Playtex for your newborn? Probably not, the nipples don't seem to be too "newborn babies friendly." WAIT TILL YOU BABY IS A YEAR OLD AND IT WILL DO IT'S AWESOME JOB!! So who cares about cool looking bottles -- they are bottles for christ sake!!! If your baby can talk he'll say - let's talk practical and CLEAN -- no leaks!

Customer Review: Hate the bottles - love the nipples...
Summary: 2 Stars

These bottles are terrible!!! If you do not get every kink out of the regular liner it will leak around the rim - sometimes difficult to do when you have a hungry baby. The drop-in's work better for leaks but I hate them for a couple other reasons. The first thing is they are much more expensive than the regular liners, the second thing is that if you try to "burp" them more than once the ring at the top comes away from the bottle spilling milk everywhere(any one who has ever pumped milk can imagine how upsetting that it is). Also these bottles do not hold what they say they do. The four ounce bottles with regular liner will not hold more than about 3oz when you pull them down to where they say you should, the drop-ins hold a half ounce less than they say they do. My baby liked the nipple on these and I think it is much more natural than the other smaller nipples the other companies offer. I ended up switching to the ventair natural shape they have their own problems but these nipples are interchangeable with theirs. Oh, I just thought of one more thing - why would they sell their 8oz bottles with a slow flow nipple??? That is ridiculous that you have to pay extra money for additional nipples, the ventair come with fast flow on the 9oz.
