Baby Products Reviews of Playtex Premium Nurser Newborn Gift SetCustomer Review: GREAT BOTTLES FOR NEW MOMS Summary: 5 Stars
Read this carefully, I'm a first time mom and I have tried it ALL! If you're planning on combining breastfeeding and bottle at the same time, the best I found is PLAYTEX, try the easy drop ins, with the RUBBER nipples.I didn't know if I was going to be able to breastfeed. Well, I am breastfeeding and expressing milk or using formula has been a breeze using the playtex, easy for my DH to share the joy of feeding our little girl. They are great for reducing colic too. Believe me, most new borns get colicky this days for some reason. I wish somebody would of told me this when I registered for baby shower, after all that money we spent in bottles all I needed was 3 playtex bottles, 100 easy drop ins and 6 rubber nipples. Yes, get the rubber nipples, they're as close to the real thing as you can get. It's always good to be prepared in case you need to fix some formula at the hospital.
Dr. Browns bottles do the job better than the Avent BUT, they leak and are difficult to assemble in the middle of the night. I also tried the Avent bottles and my baby didn't seem content with the silicone nipple, too hard on the gums and the bottle with the liners needs a different kind of nipple, which makes it difficult to find. The Avent liners are very difficult to work with, they don'tt open easily to fit in the bottle. Trust me, I tried all of the bottles out there! Avent, dr. brown's, and Evenflo. PLAYTEX IS THE BEST, my baby loves the nipples and doesn't get gassy.
Customer Review: Buy this system FIRST and save yourself money and hassle! Summary: 5 Stars
We started out using the Avent bottles with our daughter while I was still breastfeeding. The Avent nipple is very stiff, and as a newborn, our daughter had a hard time with it - she would be drenched in milk after feedings, and had a lot of gas.
Then we tried Dr Browns. Not only were they no better, but then we were cleaning all the tedious little pieces of the bottles - what a pain!
So we tried the Ventaire bottles. The baby wasn't quite as gassy, but the nipple still wasn't right - a lot of milk would pour down her chin and she would be soaked. (And when you are pumping breastmilk, every drop that doesn't go into the baby's mouth is a tragic waste!)
FINALLY after chatting with a Mom who was happily using the disposable nursers, we tried them. I was thrilled to find that Playtex offers nipples in several different shapes and materials - we bought the starter set and tried out the different nipples. We ended up using the silicon natural fast flow nipple, and our daughter has been happy and thriving for 4 months on it.
DO YOURSELF A FAVOR! Try this system first. There are other benefits to using the disposables (presterilized liners, fewer pieces to wash and sterilize, they heat much faster, they collapse as baby is drinking, so less air gets into baby's system) but the bottom line is that you can customize the nipple for your baby without having to buy a whole new bottle system, which I wish I knew from the beginning!
Customer Review: Not bad Summary: 4 Stars
I have been using these bottles since my son was born four months ago. I initially bought them because I felt the nipple was more like the breast and I had intended to breast feed. Since I didn't get milk, my baby is strictly bottle fed. I like these bottles for the convenience factor; they are easy to clean. Since you use the sterilized inserts it eliminates the effort of trying to get a regular bottle clean enough for baby. The nipples are easy for the baby to latch onto, and because they are soft silicone and designed to be more like the breast, my son didn't get lip blisters from sucking. I have used the original liners and the new disposable liners. The original liners are very difficult to position in the bottle and aren't worth the hassle. The disposable liners are very easy to use, but tend to collapse and leak. This occurs when you have filled the liner, put on the nipple and try to push the air out of the liner by pressing gently on the bottom of it. You realize you have a problem once you start feeding your baby and you both wear half of the bottle. This happened every single time we tried to get the air out - without fail...and no, this wasn't due to operator error! :-) If you are looking for convenience, ease of cleaning and/or to transition between the breast and bottle, I would recommend this product. However, if you want to eliminate the air your child consumes during feeding, choose Dr. Brown's instead.
Customer Review: The Best Bottles To Use When Breatfeeding Also Summary: 5 Stars
I am a first time mom and I absolutely love these bottles. My son was diagnosed with acid reflux at 2 1/2 weeks of age. His pediatrician recommeded that I supplement with Enfamil A.R. because the added rice starch will help keep all his food down. I was only breastfeeding him at the time of this diagnosis and was told that I could keep breastfeeding while supplementing, too. I was afraid to do this for fear that he would get nipple confused and wouldn't breastfeed from me. I did not want to give up breastfeeding, so, I asked the doctor if he recommeded a certain bottle that would keep him from getting nipple confusion. I had mentioned the Playtex nurser and its' claims to support breastfeeding moms. He said that it was the only one he would use. My baby loves this bottle and he is two months old now and still breastfeeding fine. It's as if I had never even introduced a bottle at all. Buying the liners gets to be a little expensive but I think it's worth it to keep breastfeeding. I also like how you don't have to use the Platex drop-ins - you can use a generic soft liner to save money and it works just as well. You can also use the soft liners to pump into and the liners lay flat for storing your milk. I would recommend these bottles to everyone, even if you don't intend to breastfeed. Awesome bottle and very much worth every penny.
Customer Review: Easy for baby to latch on! Summary: 5 Stars
This is absolutely the best bottle on the market. After working in daycare and as a nanny, I had a preference for these. Then after my sister had my nephew and used them I knew the minute I found out I was expecting that I would be using them too.
The reason that I love these bottles so much is that they are very easy for baby to latch onto. Most other bottles use very small nipples whereas these use a nipple that is quite large, more like a breast. If you think about how a woman's body is made and really look at the nipples you will see what I mean. Being able to latch on better allows them to eat better and have much less gas and spit up.
I also love how easy they are to warm up in a bottle warmer or crock pot. Because they use the liner, the milk can heat up much quicker than a standard bottle with thick plastic - a very important thought at 3AM!!!
Some people think having to always by liners is costly an annoying. But not really. 100 eight ounce liners will cost about $8 and will last about 2 to 2 1/2 weeks. So not as bad as you might think. (If this is truly an issue for you, consider the Advent bottles. They also have relatively large nipples. But because they do not use a liner, you cannot eliminate the air from the bottle and they take much longer to warm up.)
