Baby Products Reviews of Playtex Playtex VentAire Advanced Standard Bottle Gift SetCustomer Review: The best I found, yet not so great at times Summary: 3 Stars
These are the only bottles that our daughter can use without them leaking on her! The downfalls are: 1. BEWARE of what size nipples come in the package. They are labeled very poorly as to which size they are, slow or fast flow. 2. They are time consuming to dismantle and reassemble after washing. 3. You WILL get a leaky one until you figure out the correct manner to insert the disc, even once and a while beyond that. 4. The 6oz bottles are very hard to add 6oz of water and 3 scoops of formula to and shake, there is very little room on the top once your water and powder are mixed. 5. Playtex Vent-aire also makes a product with "Natural-Latch" nipples. They are very similar, but the bottles are bigger and have a very differant nipple than the regular Vent-Aire. The packaging is very hard to differentiate from. I bought these thinking they were the vent-aire I had and our daughter refuses to take the "natural-latch", what a waste of $$! 6. Because of the crooked top, these bottles always fall very easily in my cabinet and are hard to stack in the diaper bag. They take up more room. 7. My daughter is still gassy, the vents don't seem to help.
Please try a variety of bottles before you choose one that works for you!
Customer Review: Overall, worth a try - should make a medium flow nipple! Summary: 4 Stars
I received this off of my registry and have subsequently bought two additional 3 packs of the 6 oz size as I was always washing bottles! Overall the bottles have been a good experience for us. The sleek design is great for the various diaper bags and insulated cooler bag and is easy to handle. The bottle system is easy to clean and there should be no issue of leaks provided the vented disk is inserted back correctly, which is very easy - just run your nail along the inside edge of the vented disk while pressing against the base piece to ensure a snug fit.The only issue that I have with this system is that there is no medium flow nipples. My daughter was sucking so hard and collapsing the nipple at 6 weeks with the Stage 1 nipples and it was beginning to take a long time to feed and she'd wind up frustrated and full of gas. The Stage 2 nipples are too advanced at this point and run very quickly. Before poking any holes or bailing on the systen I tried the Gerber silicon Medium flow replacement nipples (they come in a 6 pack). They fit the bottles and worked like a charm. Now baby is happy and burps like a champ again. I did try one Avent and one Playtex disposable bottle and didn't like either. Give this a try.
Customer Review: A leaky mess!!! Summary: 1 Stars
I bought these bottles instead of the avent bottles hoping the vent would truly work as advertised. I am breastfeeding my newborn so I purchased the new natural shape version. After sterilizing bottles according to directions I attempted to warm some refrigerated breast milk in warm water per directions. The water I was warming the milk with immediately became cloudy as my hard earned breast milk leaked out through the vent in the bottom. Feeling a little frustrated to have wasted 3oz of breast milk I decided to warm the milk in a seperate container then pour it into the bottle, this time the milk didn't leak out of the bottom but when I went to feed my daughter she became drenched from leaking around the nipple. I have since tried several differnt things- taking apart the bottles and reassembling to ensure tight and proper seals, switching out nipples thinking the one I was using was just defective, so on and so on. My daughter spent her first days of life in the intensive care nursery and is jaundice, her feedings are very important and I work extremely hard to provide her with the best- breast milk. These bottles cost me several wasted ounces of breast milk, I would not recommend using them- ever.
Customer Review: Won't buy these again. Summary: 2 Stars
I chose these for my first child because my close friend was using them with her daughter and they didn't seem to have any leak problems. At first, I didn't either. Not difficult to figure out how to assemble or anything. No problems.
However, I was soon dissapointed... of course, only after I bought more of this brand.
After 2-3 weeks the numbers came off the bottles so you had to eye the measurements.
My son is still at 6 oz, but if he ever gets 8 oz I don't know how I'm going to easily fill these bottles as the 8 oz line is very close to the nipple despite the 9 oz bottle measurement.
The bottles WILL randomly leak. It's usually at inconvienant times like in the middle of the grocery store or while they are filled with water in your diaper bag. Considering I found another brand that had a solid bottom that gave my son no issues, that was a serious PITA.
I have no clue when he'll ever need the fast flow nipples. He's a big eater but at 7 mo whenever he tries the fast nipples (or I accidently put them on) he spills milk everywhere.
I can't say I didn't get my use out of them but I won't buy these again.
Customer Review: Pretty good bottle Summary: 4 Stars
I breastfed my son for his first 4 months, and pumped and bottle fed him when I was out. I used these bottles and the Dr. Brown's. My son did not prefer the nipple that came with the Vent Aires so I simply bought more of the Dr. Brown nipples which he liked and used them in the vent aires. Some reviews are stating that the bottles leak you do not have the vent in properly. In my opinion, it is virtually impossible to put the vent in wrong. I have never had a problem with them leaking. Also, regarding a mildew problem in the vents, the directions clearly state on the package to boil the vents and nipples about once a week to ensure they are clean and safe. I have yet to come across a problem with the bottles standing up in my cupboard or a problem with them in my diaper bag. The only issue that I do have is that these bottles claim to have a bubble free feeding, and they do in fact get lots of bubbles in them. But for my son, they are fine and do not cause any discomfort. My advice to new mom's is to trial and error with bottles. Don't but too many of one kind until you know what works for you. All babies are different and what works for one may not for the other.
