Customer Review: GREAT BOTTLES- LIKE OLD VERSION BETTER THOUGH!
Summary: 5 Stars

MY SON IS NOW 7 MONTHS OLD AND I HAVE USED THE OLDER VERSION (PRIMARY COLORED) VENTAIRE BOTTLES SINCE DAY ONE WITH HIM... HAVE SOME PATIENCE WITH THESE IN THE BEGINNING THOUGH! LIKE MANY OF THE OTHER REVIEWERS HAVE MENTIONED... IT TAKES SOME TIME FOR YOUR BABY TO ADJUST TO THE NIPPLE...BUT THIS IS TRUE OF ANY BOTTLE/NIPPLE!! I FOUND THAT TAKING A FORK AND POKING A PRONG THROUGH THE HOLE OPENED IT UP A LITTLE AND ENABLED A GENTLE, YET FASTER FLOW FOR MY SON!! THE NIPPLES' OPENINGS ARE SEALED PRETTY TIGHT WHEN YOU FIRST TAKE THEM OUT OF THE PACKAGE SO I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND OPENING THE HOLE A LITTLE BIT! THE BOTTLES ARE REALLY EASY TO CLEAN~ I STICK MINE RIGHT IN THE DISH WASHER IN A BASKET!! IF YOU DON'T HAVE ONE THOUGH... I WOULD RECOMMEND WASHING THEM AFTER USE TO PREVENT GRIME BUILD-UP IN NIPPLE AND VENTS IN HOT, SOAPY WATER... THEN SOAKING THEM ONCE EVERY WEEK OR SO IN A GALLON OF WATER TO ONE CUP OF BLEACH TO GIVE THEM A GOOD CLEANING. AS FOR THE NEWER PASTEL COLORED VENTAIRES... I HAVE TRIED ONE AND LIKED IT, BUT PARTS ARE NOT INTERCHANGEABLE IF YOU HAVE THE OLD... BOTTOM VENT IS DIFFERENT AND REQUIRES A LITTLE MORE WORK TO GET IT TO NOT LEAK. MY SISTER-IN-LAW USES THEM EXCLUSIVELY AND LOVES THEM.. ALTHOUGH THEY HAVE LEAKED FOR HER AND THE NIPPLE HAS COLLAPSED MANY TIMES!! GUESS IT TAKES PRACTICE AND LOTS OF PATIENCE! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THE OLDER VERSIONS THOUGH AND MOST STORES ARE STILL CARRYING THEM!!

Customer Review: Deserves ZERO stars
Summary: 1 Stars

After our son was born, we experimented with several styles and brands of bottles to determine which were most compatible with him. Playtex VentAire's promise to reduce gas and fussiness sounded great...until I actually used them for a few days! I cannot think of anything positive about these bottles, and I agree with many of the points posted by other reviewers:

*The bottles are a pain to assemble (especially when a new parent is sleep deprived), and easily susceptible to leaking.
*They are a pain to wash (and the small pieces can get lost in the sink easily).
*They are impossible to heat with a bottle warmer.
*The 1st stage nipples release liquid far too slowly.
*The 2nd stage nipples are FAR too fast.

My biggest complaint about these bottles is that the nipples are designed to be VERY long and thin, and therefore have the potential to go deep into a newborn's mouth/throat, which caused my son to gag! I experienced a couple of instances where my son was incredibly eager to eat and would vigorously suck the bottle, took in too much nipple, and then gagged and vomited!

We eventually decided that Avent's Naturally bottles were best suited for our needs: easy to assemble, easy to clean, and the nipples' "natural" design has a fat base so that it's impossible for a famished baby to suck the nipple in too far and gag.

Customer Review: The only bottle my son would take, but ...
Summary: 3 Stars

When it was time for me to go back to work, my then-6-week-old son absolutely REFUSED to drink from the Avent bottles we'd chosen. However, we had a Ventaire bottle on hand -- I think it was a shower gift -- and he took to it immediately.

That was a mixed blessing. The narrow Ventaire bottle (he would never take the wide one), I believe, led to difficulties with breastfeeding, which we'd previously done well with, and eventually he stopped nursing altogether at 2 1/2 months.

I also didn't care for the Ventaire nipples. The first level nipples were so slow that he could barely get any milk at all, while the second level were too fast and led to further nursing issues. (Luckily, just about any standard-size nipples will fit these bottles, so I used the Dr. Brown's ones, with better luck.)

However, we had very very few issues with gas, and we had no leaking issues, either, with these bottles. So once nursing was no longer an issue, I was quite happy with the Ventaire ... until the news hit about BPA in plastic bottles. I pitched them then.

That said, because of the no-gas feature and the lack of leaking, I would use the Ventaires again IF Playtex came out with a BPA-version, and IF my next kiddo would take the wider version. (I guess we'd still have to find the right nipple, though, as I wasn't happy with the Playtex flow rates.)

Customer Review: These Bottles Worked Great and Last!
Summary: 5 Stars

Now that my son is done with bottles, I thought I'd write a review about these. After breastfeeding stopped at 10 months, we started with other bottle types that had been recommended, but when he wouldn't take any of them, I tried the Ventaire. He immediately took to them. He wasn't super gassy anyway, so I can't really tell you if they help with that, but he didn't get any more gassy when I made the switch to these.. To get the air out if you shake up the formula, simply squeeze the end of the nipple. We used these bottles from 10 months to 24 months before weaning him off, and never had to replace any of them. We did get the Stage 1 and Stage 2 nipples, but never had to replace those beyond the initial purchase either. They cleaned up nicely in the dishwasher, but I would say to unscrew the bottoms and take out the rubber thing each time you wash them or residue can tend to colled in the screw threads. The different sizes of bottles were nice too, they come in 6oz for smaller feedings and 9 for larger. For those moms pumping breastmilk, this can mean less waste. The only time I ever got any leaks out of the bottom was when I hadn't screwed the bottom all the way on - which was my own fault! :-) All in all I was very impressed with the durability of these bottles and the way my son took to them immediately. Very worthwhile purhase!

Customer Review: Excellent Bottle Feeding System
Summary: 5 Stars

I have read some negative comments and feel that the problems are the users not assembling properly or isolated cases of nipples needing a little help being opened initially.

My son has been using the Ventaire exclusively for 9 weeks now and I only know of one leak in the beginning. We didn't have the silicone disc in properly (I won't say who fixed that bottle). I haven't needed to purchase any new nipples so far.

For those complaining about "so many parts to assemble", there are only two additonal parts than regular bottles and that is the bottom ring and disk. They are all easily cleaned, dried, assembled, and filled with water in less 10 minutes. (I sometimes let them airdry for 5-10 minutes then finish the drying by hand. After assembling them all, I fill them with the amount of water I need and that is it (10-15 minutes at most).

When assembling, make sure the silicone disk is fitted in the groove on the bottom ring and secure it to the bottle. Place the nipple on the top ring and ensure a tight fit.

At feeding, I add the powdered formula, shake and feed him.

I can't comment on the bottle's ability to decrease gas, since he has only used this bottle but I never see bubbles coming up from the nipple.
