Customer Review: Good Until They Start Leaking On You!
Summary: 3 Stars

When my son was about three months old I started using these bottles, and they were wonderful! He no longer had any problems with gas, they were easier to clean because the bottoms screwed off, making it easy to get that caked on formula in the bottom, and they didn't leak... at least not at first. My only initial complain was that there were a lot of parts to keep track of, and occasionally a sealing disk would go missing at Grandma's house, and left me with quite a few incomplete bottles. After using a set of 9 for about a year and washing them on average every other day, I started to notice that some of them were beginning to leak out of the bottom. I tried ordering new sealing disks from Playtex, but after realizing that the sealing disks weren't the problem, I came to the conclusion that I must have worn out the main body portion of the bottle after all the use, and there was no way to stop them from leaking. I noticed that only a few of my bottles had that problem, and by the time it was apparent, my child was about to quit using bottles altogether. The leaking might just have been a bad set I had gotten, or it could have been from constant use. Whatever the cause, now that I'm on my way to have another baby, I'm looking into trying outat the Playtex Premium nursers, which, although they will force me to begin buying bottle liners, will lead to less midnight dish washing runs to get the bottles clean and hopefully take some strain off my bottles from having to be constantly washed!

Honestly, though, I loved these bottles and if it weren't for the leakage I started having, I would continue using these ones exclusively!

Customer Review: Best Bottle on the Market!!!!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I originally registered for (and received) the avent bottles. They were horrible because they leaked (you can't over tighten or under tighten and all sorts of other finicky things) and they also left my baby with lots of gas where he would cry violently. Horrible to watch. I tried several other bottles and still wasn't happy with them. My girlfriend kept on telling me to try these but I was skeptical becuase people said that they leaked. well anyhow I was at my whits end and hurting for my son so I decided to try them. I do have to say that the stage one nipple is hard to get anything out of. But I did use the stage two nipple and it's been great. He will occasionally have to burp but it's quick and painless. Most times he doesn't have to burp afterwards. There is no spillage from the side of his mouth and he will drink his milk straight and not have to be burped half way so that he can finish eating. I have never had the bottles leak because I washed them all and assembled them and left them like that. I do clean them after every usage with soap and water. Then once a week I take them apart, sterilize the bottles in the sterilizer and boil the nipples and disc. I immediately reassemble them and then test them with water to see if they are leaking. I think that you will run into leaks if you try to assemble them as you are ready to use them and are rushing because the baby is hungry.

I wish that I could give these bottles more than five stars. I should have listened to my friend sooner. Her baby suffered from Acid Reflux and this bottles worked great for him.

Customer Review: These are a great choice for your newborn!
Summary: 4 Stars

I used these bottles for my baby until she was about 5 weeks old. Everybody complains that the Stage 1 nipple flow is way too slow. It is, but that was a plus for my baby, because she is very prone to spitting up. I found that these bottles were slow enough that it made her keep everything down. I tried the Dr. Brown's bottles at first, and they were way too fast and made her spit up very badly. So I went back to the Vent Aire bottle, and my baby kept all formula down at every feeding.

However, now that my baby is getting older and demanding more formula at each feeding, these bottles just don't work for us any more. It was taking my baby 45 minutes or more to take 3 oz. of formula, which was driving me crazy at 2:00 a.m. It was taking so long for my baby to eat that she was becoming disinterested in eating only 1 oz into a feeding, then she would just do the "non nutritive suckles" on the nipple without taking in formula. It was so frustrating, because I know she was still hungry, but she was using the nipple like a pacifier because the flow was soooooo slow! They were also giving my baby nursing blisters on her lips from having to suck so hard to get the formula out.

I recommend these bottles for the first month, then after that, switch to a different bottle, or switch to a different brand of Stage 1 nipple (even though they say to only use the Vent Aire nipples). The Stage 2 nipples are way too fast, it seems like there is no in between with these Vent Aire nipples. I recommend the EvenFlo Stage 1 nipple.

Customer Review: Not the best bottles
Summary: 2 Stars

I bought this set for my newborn boy 2 months ago. I am having several problems with these bottles. First of all, I like to steralize all feeding items such as the bottles, nipples, covers to the bottles, etc. I steralize once every two weeks or so. After doing this, the labels on the bottles that tell you how many ounces you are using has started to fade away. Now, I cannot see how many ounces of formula I am putting into the bottle so I have to measure the formula in another bottle and pour it in.

I also do not like the nipples that come with these bottles. They flow way too fast, and my baby has choked on the formula because he cannot swallow fast enough. Maybe it would be more appropriate for a 6 month old, but not a newborn who is still getting used to sucking and needs slow flow.

The giftset also apparently doesn't come with girl colors so if you have a girl you would be stuck with blue and yellow.

Also, these bottles are supposed to be good go prevent the baby from drinking air bubbles, yet my son still gets bad gas and has colic.

Finally, the bottles also leak.

I gave this set 2 stars though, so there are some positive things I can say. First of all, cleaning is very easy. The bottoms come off so you can easily stick a bottle brush in.

The bottles come in small and larger sizes for when baby starts drinking more ounces.

The bottles are angled to reduce ear infections.

Overall, I do not recommend these bottles.

Customer Review: tossed avents, NOW no bubbles, no gas, no leaks!!!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I am an NICU-RN and at first I fed my baby exculsively with avent bottles. I never experienced any leaking with the bottles but my baby was still making bubbles in the bottles and had tremendous gas. Baby would be sleeping comfortably and then wake up abruptly crying from belly/gas pains. I tried the gas drops but nothing worked. At about six weeks old I had had enough and got the playtex ventair bottles (regular size, not natural-wide nipple shape) and stage 2 nipples (my baby gets a small amount of rice cereal in her formula per her pediatrian). These bottles have been wonderful. We have had no bubbles, no gas and the special cross cut on the nipples do not continually drip like regular nipples so baby only gets food when she sucks. We have also had much less gas and she seems more content and happy throughout the day and night. I have also not had any trouble with the vent disks or leaking. I just make sure that the bottle is dry when I put it together. I have a bottle drying rack (by prince lionheart that is carried by babies r us) that makes life much easier and I put the pieces on after I wash them and they dry quickly. The playtex ventair also have less pieces and are easier to clean then Dr. Browns bottles which are also good for less gas. Also, another review said that these would not work in a bottle warmer. However, I have been warming mine in the avent bottle warmer, just take off the top/nipple while warming, and it has done just fine.
