Baby Products Reviews of Playtex Playtex VentAire Advanced Standard Bottle Gift SetCustomer Review: My pediatrician reccommended them! Summary: 1 Stars
I originally had planned to breastfeed my son, so i hadn't given too much thought into buying bottles. However, in my eighth month of pregnancy, I developed a blood clot. My ob told me that I would no longer be able to breastfeed because I would have to be on blood thinners for the next six months and that breastmilk wouldn't be safe for my son. I called my pediatrician and he reccommended the Ventaire bottles because they reduce gas and colic and " are the best bottles out there" So, I bought the bottles and the stage 1 nipples and prepared them exactly the way the instructions said to. I boiled the nipples and the bottom vents, then I checked to make sure the nipples were opened and had to boil about half of them for a second time, but that was no biggie. I dried them and put them away to await my son's arrival. The night my son came home from the hospital, I get a bottle out to feed him....he couldn't get anything out of the nipple. For the life of me, I couldn't feed him with the bottles. I tried taking a needle to make the holes bigger, but that didn't help. I ended up having to take the bottom off the bottles just so my son could eat! The next day, I prepared the stage 2 nipples and thought that I would try that. He couldn't get anything out of that one either! He sucked and sucked and just got mad because he couldn't eat! I even tried to poke the holes of the vents out, but nothing helped. I even thought that I was tightening the bottoms on too tight but loosening them didn't help. I had to go buy new bottles for him because nothing I did got them to work. The sad part is, the bottles that work the best for him are the cheapest ones that I could find because I wasn't going to spend the money on another bottle that wouldn't work for him! I hate these bottles and I wouldn't reccommend them to anyone!
Customer Review: Too much or not enough air - I'm not sure which Summary: 2 Stars
I received 2 sets of these bottles at my baby shower and loved the colors they come in and how the bottom comes off for easy cleaning but they did not work for my daughters. I gave up breastfeeding after a few weeks with my second daughter (ended up getting mastitis and she was just way too fussy and swinging her arms everywhere and her head everywhere - it was very difficult and frustrating to get her latched on) so I decided to try these bottles instead of the ones my first daughter used. I used them for about 1 1/2 months and she had worse gas problems and would spit up alot and sometimes expel it across the room a few feet and it would often take 20 - 30 minutes or more each time to just get her to burp once after every 2 ounces of formula. I guess she would have to suck so hard that the air would go really deep inside her and made her spit up ALOT and she was fussy for hours with gas problems and the mylicon drops didn't help that - it was the bottles. I considered changing her formula but first decided to try changing her bottles (I used the old ones my first daughter used - healthflow bottles with evenflo nipples) and they worked great (with both girls)! They might get more air it the nipple but I just pull it out of her mouth every few minutes to relieve the air out and she burps much better and doesn't have the gas problems anymore and is much calmer now and doesn't spit up nearly as much. Maybe it was just my kids but these bottles didn't work for either of them (I had one of these bottles with my first also and she didn't like it either). But I love the way they come apart for thorough cleaning and I love all the different colors. I say try them for yourself and see how they work. Both of my girls have a strong sucking reflex and these did not work for them.
Customer Review: Take these nagative reviews with a grain of salt... Summary: 4 Stars
I have FINALLY come to find that you have to take any review with a grain of salt. What works for some, may not work for others. I almost didn't buy these bottles because of the bad reviews I found here... boy am I glad I went with my gut feeling and tried them anyway!!!!These bottles are great!!!! They don't leak, they are easy to warm with hot water, I haven't seen any bubbles, and even though the flow is slow, my daughter finishes them in no time!!!! To address some of the negativity surrounding these bottles... 1) The flow on the stage 1 nipples IS slow. This works out fine for me because my child is breastfed, and the slow flow mimicks the breast. All you really have to do is wash your hands, and roll the nipple between your thumb and pointer finger before you feed. That way the silicone opens up a little more (if your baby is a preemie with sucking problems, these bottles may not be for you). 2) Of course the rubber vent piece at the bottom gets yucky... anything that holds formula is gonna get yucky!!!! I'm not just saying that because I hate formula (because I do), but mine stay extremely clean even when my breastmilk sits in them for days. If you're using formula, just make sure to dump it out and soak the bottles in water. 3) I thought these bottles had too many pieces to deal with. It's really not that bad - I have 3 kids and I have no problem finding the time to wash the pieces... you have to wash your bottles ANYWAY!!!! Last but not least... JUST TRY THINGS FOR YOURSELF!!!! You can't always take someone else's opinion on as your own. If you do that, you're gonna miss out on a lot of things that might work for you. Hope this helps... GOOD LUCK!!!!
Customer Review: Worth the time and ready for round 2! Summary: 5 Stars
I used the bottles with my now 2 1/2 year old. At the beginning the feeding did take a long time but after less than a week she learned to work the nipple. And because you cannot use traditional steam type bottle warmers with this bottle it took a little more effort to warm the bottle in a pan of hot water. My second baby was always able to use regular bottles until I switched her to plain milk last week. Then it was spit up city. I happened to have one of the older versions of this bottle left over and started using it. From the first day there was no more spitting up. It did take her about 2 days to fully figure out the nipple, but it has been no problem for the last 2 weeks. I wish I had never gotten rid of the other 10 of these bottles that I had. I am going to buy more but I must admit right now that I am purchasing the older version which is still available in my area. Although I have seen the newer version and love the new way the bottom vent is designed I have read alot here about nipple collapse with this new version and my friend has also had the same problem. She has also told me that if you don't get the bottom vent in perfect on this newer version, you will experience the leaking problem because it will twist into the threads. That is enough to make me stick with the "oldie, but goodie" and deal with the extra time that using these bottles requires. And one final note, even though it says that people who have bought these bottles have also bought the First Years Bottle Warmer, if you use a steam based bottle warmer these bottles will leak from the bottom during heating. You can use the type of warmer that you fill with water such as the Avent one.
Customer Review: Only Bottle that our Breast/Bottle-fed Baby Liked! Summary: 5 Stars
We received the VentAire Bottles as a shower gift along with Evenflow and Avent Bottles. Our son was exclusively breastfed for the first two months and when it was time to adjust him to bottles it was not easy. He choked with the Evenflow and the Avent even though my friends had used and liked these bottles. Dad and I also hated the Avent and Evenflow bottles because milk would stream out of the nipples(even though they were stage one!) My son would only use then VentAires after trying them all for a few weeks. Plus I hated how much milk would pool out of his mouth with the other bottles.
We hand washed all the parts with a bottle brush...Which some reviews thought was a pain, I was hand washing the others and the VentAires were actually the easiest to clean because our large brush did not fit so well into the other bottles, (and the brush slides in and out because of the open sides...instead of having to fish around the bottom of the others to make sure they were clean.) There is only two extra items to clean compared to the others(the bottom lid and the seal.)
In response to some reviews saying the flow was way to slow or that they could not get the milk to flow at all, We had that problem once or twice but we discovered that we had sealed the lid way too tight...After loosening it it worked perfect. Plus, after a while we switched to Stage 2 Nipples which posed no problem.
Our son loved breastfeeding and at first it was a struggle giving him bottles when we needed to...Until we used only the VentAires, (by my son's decision!) With my next son, due in Dec, I'm only going to register for these!!!
