Baby Products Reviews of Playtex Playtex VentAire Advanced Standard Bottle Gift SetCustomer Review: Answers for the bad reviews..LOVE these bottles Summary: 5 Stars
These bottles do have extra parts but it only takes a few seconds to put together, and because the bottoms come off they are easy to clean. I know these bottles take a few extra seconds to put together so I don't wait until my child is ready to eat, I have them ready to go before she is screaming for food. They don't leak if you make sure the vent seal is in the bottom of the bottle good, and put together when the bottle/vent is dry. I have had to make sure the nipple is in tight a couple of times or nothing came out. BUT the main fix for not getting milk fast enough is (like many reviews I was about to give up on these bottles) not letting your baby take the nipple to the base of the bottle. If their lips stay around the nipple where it starts to get bigger the milk flows fine...or at least that has fixed the problem for my baby and a friend of mine..and she had never had problems with leaks..we both own about 10 to 15 bottles each. My baby has never got to much air and she is a gulper!! You can see the air bubbles pop because of the vent when ever she takes a break and air/milk goes back in the bottle. I breast feed as well, I switch back and forth since week 4 with no problem. It did take a few times for her to get it. With Advent she liked the nipple but the flow was way way way to fast even at stage one. So I have stuck with these.
As far as not being able to use bottle warmers, microwaves, or steamers. That is the only thing I did not like. Not suppose to use a microwave to begin with because of hot spots. I use my steamer with the bottles and put the nipples and vents in the microwave to boil them faster than in a pan. To warm the milk I put water in a cup, microwave the water for about a min place the bottle without the nipple in the water for 2 to 3 min and you have a warm bottle just as quick as a warmer and it's not that much more work.
Worth a few extra seconds of putting together and warming to keep air out of my baby's belly! Hopes this helps
Customer Review: These really are the best bottles! Summary: 5 Stars
I love these bottles! When my pre term son was born I orginally used the playtex nursers, because I thought next to the "breast it was the best", boy was I WRONG! After several weeks using the nursers I switched to these. Henry at first wouldn't take it but after a few minutes he did and he hasn't any problems with gas since then. He burbs wonderful and doesn't have any gas pains when he finishes his bottle.
These bottles are easy to clean and you could use them in the dishwasher too, I hand wash mine because I think they come out cleaner, but you can use them in the dishwasher.
I don't have any problems with them leaking. I don't find it difficult or time consuming putting them together. I use both a sterilizer and bottle warmer and never had any problems. I never had any problems with the disk, just read the instructions, it does tell you to stretch the disk after sterilizing.
I've only had one problem with the stage 1 nipple and once I realized after coming out of the sterlizer I needed to pull at it,(just like the disks) it was fine. My son also takes the stage 2 with no problem. It does come out much faster but you just need to control your child from gulping. These really are the best bottles and I am glad I am using them.
My only concern is after reading a review from a mother in Mississippi she said she couldn't find any nipples for the bottles because of the new natural shape design, I hope that is not true, I was under the impression the new design was for those switching from breast to bottle. I purchased my bottles in July and it is now September and I see them everywhere even in new colors.
I think if you are having problems with gas these bottles are worth a try. Even if you don't have problems with gas I would try them, anything that pervents bubbles from mixing has to be a good thing right? I also don't think they are very expensive.
I love them and so does my pre term son who is now 8 weeks old and 11 pounds!
Customer Review: Not sure if I would pick these again Summary: 3 Stars
Every baby item has its pluses and minuses, right? I love the angled design, you don't have to tilt the baby's head so far back to get the last drop. I bought a steam bottle warmer the weekend after not getting at my shower, then returned it on Monday. They should print on the outside packaging that you can't use steam cuz of the rubber disks. We have lots of nipple collapses, mostly when the bottle was cold from the fridge (try to warm the nipple under warm water). My sister the experienced mom had to pinpoint open the stage 1 nipples. Now at 7 mo my dgtr STILL cant get used to the HUGE jump from stage 1 to 2, and there's no other sizes. Her little jaw sucking too hard leads to collapsed nipples also. I never had any problems cleaning them, I used to wash them all by hand but now I put them in the dishwasher top rack. No problems at all. I did have one disk I had to throw out cuz somehow it got torn or something, nothing I could do would fix it. I put in a replacement disk and it was just fine. I had to fight with my dgtrs sitter to make her use our bottles; she was using her own Avent bottles w/my dgtr at 4 mos which caused her to not want to drink from the VentAire. I couldn't dump all that $$ into new bottles. I think what made me so excited when I registered for these was the fact that they are supposed to prevent extra gas. Does it? Not sure, my dgtr has always been free with her gas - burping and the other end, she gets it from her dad. But I have noticed times where you can hear the air escaping from the bottom of the bottle, instead of going into the baby. If Playtex could just redesign the nipples, give more of a variety and a clear cut explanation about when to change sizes, (their website says 6 mo or sitting up - my dgtr's 7 mo and has been sitting up since 4 1/2 yet she's still not ready for stage 2 nipples), these would be a good bottle. Since we use formula, I just keep the nursery water at room temp until ready to use - don't mix ahead of time.
Customer Review: Once you get used to putting it together - they are great Summary: 4 Stars
It is true, the vent disk is hard to figure out... but once you know that the plastic bottom and the disk have to be COMPLETLY dry before putting it together, you won't have a problem with leaks. It just takes a little practice - just like everything else with a new baby. Also, it gets very easy to put them together... You want to talk about a lot of parts and hard to put together (not to mention expensive) try the DR Brown's bottles! I couldn't stand to keep her on those long enough to see if it helped with the gas.I also had a problem with the stage 1 nipples... My girl is a big eater and hated how long it took to get formula from those nipples! (of course we were on the avent stage 1 nipples, which will drown the baby) Switched to stage 2 and she was happy. However, I do still use the stage 1 nipples for juice and water... it helps me ensure she isn't getting the thinner liquids too fast - and she does just fine with those. I did have a problem every once in a while with the nipple colapsing to begin with... but for some reason, that went away quickly. Not sure if they are just broken in now, or if she just figured out how to eat from them? I did use a bottle warmer for a while (until I decided I hated that thing)Then I switched to the microwave. And I also use a steam sterilizer with these bottles. I have been doing so for 5 months now, and I don't have any problems - I even know that the disks are still working b/c you can see the air leaving the bottle via the bubbles! So, I think that that is just an overprecautious warning. As for the gas... little megan is VERY gassy and always has been. I tried all kinds of bottles. These seem to be better than the others, but she still gets gas and she is 6 months old now. It dosent seem to be as painfull with these bottles, and that's why I still use them. Give them a try, at least. What works for one, dosent work for everyone. This could be your bottle.
Customer Review: Better than most Summary: 4 Stars
I purchased these bottles after my son started eating more than his four-ounce bottles (Playtex disposables) could hold. There are several things that I like about these:
1. Unlike the disposables, you don't have to burp these or do anything to get them ready. (However, my son does not take warm milk, so if you warm your milk that obviously would be another step.) They're very convenient when family members want to feed my son but don't know about burping disposables, keeping them titled so air doesn't get back in, etc.
2. The bottoms unscrew, so it makes cleaning them much easier.
3. The larger bottles hold 9 ounces, and the smaller ones hold about 7, So I can still use the smaller ones (unlike the small disposables, which only hold 4 ounces.)
4. The set comes with extra nipples and silicone vents; although if you do want to use all the bottles at once, you will have to purchase more nipples, as I believe it only came with a few stage one and stage two. The nipples aren't that expensive if you shop around. I have not had to purchase new vents yet, so I'm not sure about the cost of those.
I really like these bottles. I haven't noticed my son spitting up more than with the disposables, and in fact he spits up much less than his cousin who is the same age. They're cute, they don't take up as much space as the disposables in the fridge or diaper bag, and they are easy to use. I did have the same problem with the nipple collapsing after awhile, until we gave the vents a quick stretch (the holes sealed in the dishwasher.) Also, the new nipples (especially stage ones) needed to have the X unsealed so the formula would go through when we bought them. No problem though. They are not too much more work to clean than other bottles, just make sure you let them dry completely before putting them back together. :-)
