Baby Products Reviews of Playtex Drop-Ins Original BPA Free Nurser Newborn Starter SetCustomer Review: Average at most Summary: 3 Stars
Per my mother's recommnedation i purchased these bottles for my infant son. They worked until my son learned how to squeeze the bottom of the bottle and soak the carpet with a stream of formula. The nipple that i think is the "breastfeeding" one leaked horribly out the side of his mouth and then i couldn't get him off the nipple to wipe him off until i broke the suction as if he were on the breast. Daddy couldn't really figure out how to use the liners. We bought the generic kind because I didn't think that the preformed liners were true to the volume of liquid. (8oz by playtex's definition was only 6 oz in a gerber bottle.) And that is a waste of formula. I am now pregnant with my second and i plan to breastfeed for longer this time. (son had latching problems and i got tired of the nipple shield) I plan to use avent product, from their pump to their botlles and i already have their sterilizer. Not a horrible product, my mom never had a problem. Just depends on what things mean the most to you. But definately, don't let a 7 month okd watch you squirt the air out of the bottle. He'll think that it is the coolest thing ever!
Customer Review: Greatest Bottles Summary: 5 Stars
These are the greatest bottles. We have been using them for 8 months and don't really have any complaints. They clean up well, especially nice for traveling/camping when you can't wash entire sets of bottles easily. We bring a bunch of nipples and change those and the liners but you don't have to wash the entire bottle every time. I just wash them up at the end of the day. If we are out and about we just dump the liner in a nearby trash, wipe the nipple out with a tissue (so it doesn't get stinky) and you are good to go. You don't have to worry about finding a bottle two days later that you forgot to rinse out (gross!). Also, once our daughter began sitting on her own she wanted to hold her own bottle. With these I can squeeze out the air and give it to her and she sucks it dry! Even when she takes it in and out of her mouth it never fills back up with air (some people say theirs do - maybe they are using fast-flow nipples??). We definitely use the 8 oz. the most. The 4 oz. works great for newborns who eat less (but more often!). It also works great for juice now that she is older.
Customer Review: GOOD STARTER KIT Summary: 3 Stars
I have mixed feelings about this kit. I'll start with the reasons why I like it. It comes with your 4oz. and 8oz. bottles with a variety of nipples to choose from. The disposable bags and drop-ins already come with. These make your baby less gassy because you can push the air out. They are really easy to warm. You just run them under your faucet. They are also easy to clean. Now let me tell you my dislikes. The drop-in refills or the bags are kind of pricy when you have to buy a new box 2-3 times a month. They may give you a variety of nipples, but you can't even use them all in the beginning stages. Some are marked infant and some older child. The ones that are for the older children have too much of a flow coming out and would cause chocking with a younger baby. Then they only give you like one infant nipple so you have to go out and buy more nipples anyway. I'd recommend buying one separately to see if you like it first before commiting yourself to an entire box. And make sure that you want to keep spending the money on the refills when there is so much other things to buy.
Customer Review: The best there is! Summary: 5 Stars
I love this set! We bought this before my son was born as a "just in case" plan, as we were planning on breastfeeding. Well, right after my son was born my mother-in-law passed away, and when we came home from the hospital, things were chaotic and emotional, and we had problems with breastfeeding. In a pinch, we started using these bottles and they were a lifesaver! Even though we only had one of each of the nipples (my son only liked the naturalatch ones), these bottles were so easy to use that it really helped us to spend time on things other than making bottles. After we figured out which ones our son liked (it didn't take long!) we went to the store and bought more. It sure beats buying a whole bunch of bottles and then not knowing whether you'll use them.
I'm not sure why someone said that they nipples in the pack weren't right for younger babies...my son was 2 days old when he started using them, and they worked fine for him. Also, thanks to the variety of nipples, we have found that my son now likes three of the nipple types, and will use them with no problem.
Customer Review: In the end, these bottles only make life harder. Summary: 1 Stars
My sister used these bottles for both her boys. Due to her experience I have decided I do not like them and will not use them when my baby is born. These bottles WILL make it very difficult to take your child from bottle to sippy cup. My nephew's both learned to drink out of their bottles, not by tipping them up, like one would with a normal bottle, but by simply sucking up the fluid as you would through a straw (in order for them to get to the formula they first had to suck up the air that was in the bottle). Therefore, when it came time to change them to sippy cups, they had no concept of tipping up the cup to get their drink. Both her boys were about one before they finally understood how to drink out of the sippy cup. I would highly sugest using the Doctor Brown, AirVent, or any of those other type bottles made for preventing air from getting into your baby's tummy if that is your worry. These bottles will only cause trouble in the end, and make the proccess of putting your baby on a sippy cup much more diffecult when that time comes.
