Baby Products Reviews of Playtex Drop-Ins Original BPA Free Nurser Newborn Starter SetCustomer Review: A very frustrated and stressed out first time mom Summary: 1 Stars
I am a first time mom and introduced playtex disposables to my daughter at an early age. The disposable set was great in the beginning as it requires very less washing and that its great for travelling. But besides these 2 things, there is no other use. Various reasons: 1) Nipple: The nipple does NOT fit any other bottle (wide or regular) out there among thousands of brands in the market. Even playtex does not make a regular bottle to fit this nipple!! Also, the 0-12 months nipple is not recommended for babies older than 6 months. What nipple do you give after that?? 2) Nipple retainer: Retainer lost its shape after hot water boiling. The 6oz. nurser could not retain a filled liner after some time leading to a major spill on the baby at 2am. 3) Cost: It gets very costly after some time. You are buying liners worth 3 expensive bottles every month. In a nutshell: If you want to change to some other bottle or nipple (given that your baby is already trained on the playtex disposables), you have to teach the baby all over again to get used to another nipple first. Basically, you are STUCK with playtex. PLAYTEX SHOULD HAVE THOUGHT OF A BETTER DESIGN OR AT LEAST GIVEN AN OPTION OF A REGULAR BOTTLE FOR DISPOBALE NIPPLES. I am very displeased by selecting playtex for my daughter. If you want to save yourself the hassle of burst liners on your baby or be cost conscious, look elsewhere. FYI: I know 2 other moms who are going through the same problem.
Customer Review: BEST BOTTLES AND IVE TRIED THEM ALL!!! Summary: 5 Stars
OK parents, I am about to be a mom of 3 under 4 years old so believe me, I have major baby product experience! I have tried EVERY bottle, no joke...soothie, avent, Playtex Vent-aire, Born-FREE, NUK....the list goes on and on...These bottles are the ones I always go back to! They are amazing, no worries of BPA since they use a liner, also heat up way faster under a hot faucet (no microwaving bottles!!!) since the liner is thinner than a thick plastic wall of a normal bottle. I LOVE these bottles!! The only downside is having to buy the liners but, truly, it is not expensive and well worth it. I used to have an issue with my son who wanted to eat more than 8 ounces because the liners were hard to fill past about 7 ounces, but they make expandable liners now which fixed that problem!! I did switch to Avent as both of my babies got older just because of the capacity, but with this new baby on the way I have no doubt that I will use these bottles all the way through since they have the new liners~I would recommend this type of bottle to every one I know having a baby, they eliminate gas and bubbles completely way better than any other fancy models like the DR browns which I also used that don't eliminate bubbles as well and have about 4-5 parts to try to clean at 3 am~NO FUN!!! I know these are better with bubbles or gas in babies because my daughter had severe acid reflux disease and was colicky, after her I can handle any thing!!! These are the ones, Mommy's!!!
Customer Review: This is a Sample kit. Summary: 4 Stars
I was mistaken when I registered for these bottles... I thought I could use everything in the box for my baby when she was born. However, I did not realize (being a new mom) that this was a sample kit with various nipples (one of each) for older and newer babies, teething babies, nipples that helped encourage latching of the breast and nipples that just plain resembled the breast.
I actually would recommend that if you're a first time mom, register for this box and also pick out (seperately) two 4 oz bottles with 'slow-flow silicone' nipples for younger babies and two 4 oz bottles with 'slow-flow rubber' nipples for younger babies.
First test the silicone on your little one and if your baby does not like it, does not latch on well or has a problem with silicone, try her on the rubber nipples. After that, you'll know which nipples your baby will need and can purchase more *nipples* to go with the rest of the bottles in your kit.
I would suggest you do not use the nipples that come with the kit at all... new babies should either be on silicone or rubber slow-flow nipples for younger babies. Once you've found the typle of material he/she prefers - stick with it. And around the age of 4-6 months, switch them to older baby nipples in that same material.
Hope this review helps you! Good luck with your little one. :)
Customer Review: My Son Loves These Bottles! Summary: 5 Stars
After a couple of weeks of my husband struggling to get my son to eat using the Avent bottles, my doctor suggested trying different bottles and different nipples. Both my mother and my friend told me they used Playtex Nursers for years with no problems. I was willing to try them and happy to find this set. With it I could try several different nipples, which is what I really think was the reason my son refused the Avent bottles. At first we gave my son the orthodontic nipple since it was similarly shaped like his preferred pacifier (he also didn't like the Avent pacifiers, he would push them right out). He thought it was okay, but still wasn't very enthusiastic about eating. Next we tried the latex Natural Latch nipple and he went to town. He now guzzles down his bottles with no problem. And he has less gas now. I think the collapsible liners make a big difference. And even though generic plastic liners do a decent enough job, I don't mind spending a little more on the Playtex Drop-ins because they are less of a hassle. I would highly recommend this set. Clean up is a breeze (just a quick rinse in hot water for the plastic holders!) and I think it provides a new mother with many different options if she and her baby are unsure about what type of nipple he or she is comfortable with. Great product!
Customer Review: Just about only bottles I ever used for 15 years Summary: 4 Stars
I absolutely love these bottles. I have used them with all 3 of my children with great success and my oldest is almost 15. Gas was never a problem and my babies hardly ever spit up. Everyone always commented on how nice my babies always smelled because they never had that sour smell that babies that spit up so much do. I worked in numerous daycare centers and any time a parent had problems with a gassy baby that spit up all the time I always recommend Platex Nursers to them. 9 x's out of 10 their problems were drastically reduced thanks to Playtex. I am now pregnant with my 4th baby and though I plan to breastfeed as much as I can if I need a back up bottle or nursing doesn't work for some reason then Playtex will be my bottle of choice. Of all the new bottles out there on the market Playtex will still be my number 1 bottle of choice. If there would be any drawback at all it would be the cost of the liners. But I often got lucky and would find some at yardsales or on sale and would stock up. Also some store brands carry liners just as good. I had a few plastic bottles around just in case of running out but my babies didn't like them nearly as much and I could always tell a difference in their happiness because they would get gassy again. Buy the Playtex Nursers. They are well worth the money.
