Customer Review: Truly the best diaper pail around!
Summary: 5 Stars

We are about to have our fourth child and just bought our third Diaper Genie. For our oldest (now 13) we used a regular diaper pail and were almost violently ill every time we had to empty it.. and we used regular kitchen bags and doubled-up grocery bags back then. We then used the Diaper Genie for our second (now 9) and, although it was a hassle to cut the film and replace the refill, we found that the Diaper Genie worked better than other pails at keeping the smells locked away.

For our third (almost 3 and not currently inclined to potty train) our improved current Diaper Genie has been dutifully toiling away since we brought him home from the hospital. Even with his rather fragrant diapers, if you enter his room there is absolutely no smell coming from the Genie, not even when you open it to deposit a new diaper. For those who complain about having to buy the refills -- it's the refills that help contain the smell, since they are deodorized, something we can't claim for plastic grocery bags. To empty the Genie? Simply pop the latch on the bottom. To refill it? Pop the latch on the top, remove the empty dispenser, plunk in a new one, tie a knot, and put the top back on. It doesn't get much easier than that. Friends with infants and toddlers are always amazed that our toddler's room doesn't have a diaper smell... and I can't even count the number of friends who have ditched their other diaper pails (including the Champ and the Dekor) after seeing how well our Genie works. For which I'm glad, because their nurseries unfortunately DID smell like a diaper depository. We just bought a new Diaper Genie, even though the current one is working just fine, to keep it as a back-up since we'll soon have double the diapers!

Customer Review: We LOVE the NEW Diaper Genie!! :)
Summary: 5 Stars

Be advised...many of these reviews are for the OLD Diaper Genie, but the NEW Diaper Genie works great!! My daughter is six and a half months old. After fighting with the Neat Diaper Disposal System by Safety First (Way too wasteful!!!)for six months, we decided upon the Diaper Genie based on the recommendation of my cousin. We LOVE it!! The new version is very easy to use. To refill it, you simply drop the refill in, tie a knot in the bag, and you're ready to use it. Disposing of a diaper couldn't be easier...you just push in a diaper until it is between the clamps, close the lid, and turn the wheel a couple of times (We have found four to be the 'Magic' number.). I love how it 'sausages' the diapers into individual portions of the bag. It keeps in odors as well as anything. Let's face it...poop stinks. Any diaper disposal should be emptied at least two to three times a week, or it will become unbearable. Be advised, if you feed your baby anything other than breastmilk or formula, use the Stage Two bags!! Emptying it is a cinch...just turn the wheel an extra couple of times, push down the cutter button while turning the wheel a half turn, turn the wheel until the button pops up, open, and empty...EASY!! Unlike another reviewer, I see no way that you could reach the blades that cut the bag. They are covered for safety. (I tried every way I could think of before writing this just to be sure.) Another hint of something I have done is to apply restickable stickers to the Diaper Genie to match my daughter's nursery. We used ones you can peel and reuse. They add some 'glam' to an otherwise 'blah' diaper disposal. Overall, we love the Diaper Genie, if you can love a diaper disposal. :) It works great for us!!

Customer Review: A GREAT STINKY DISAPPOINTMENT
Summary: 1 Stars

I FIRST USED A DIAPER GENIE OVER 12 YEARS AGO WHEN THEY WERE FIRST OUT. I DID NOTICE SOME ODOR BACK THEN BUT BEING AN EXHAUSTED FIRST TIME MOM I PUT IT DOWN TO ME NOT CLEANING THE PAIL (HEY THE INSTRUCTIONS DID NOT SAY TO DO THAT AND I FIGURED THE POOPY WAS IN THE BAG ANYWAY).....STILL I TRIED A "DIAPER CHAMP" FOR MY SECOND BABY(YES THEY ARE NEARLY TWELVE YEARS APART - SHE WAS A MIRACLE BABY I WAS TOLD I COULD NOT HAVE NATURALLY, BUT GOD SAID OTHERWISE....BY THE WAY I AM ONTO THE SECOND MIRACLE BABY DUE NEXT YEAR!)....ANYWAY TO THE POINT....I BOUGHT THE DIAPER CHAMP BECAUSE IT USED REGULAR TRASH BAGS AND I THOUGHT THAT WOULD BE MORE ECONOMICAL THAN THE PRICEY DIAPER GENIE REFILLS. THE DIAPER CHAMP DID GREAT...AT FIRST - I EVEN CLEANED IT WITH ANTIBACTERIAL WIPES IN BETWEEN EMPTYNG THE THING. BUT ALAS THE DAY CAME WHEN MY BABY HAD TO START SOLID FOODS, AND THE STINKIES GOT STINKIER, BY THE TIME I WEANED HER ONTO FORMULA AT NEARLY 9 MONTHS OLD THE DIAPER CHAMP HAD SEEN IT'S LAST DAYS. THE STINK WAS SO BAD MY HUSBAND AND I PLAYFULLY ARGUED ABOUT WHOSE TURN IT WOULD BE TO EMPTY THE THING!....ANYWAY THIS IS TURNING INTO A DIAPER CHAMP REVIEW....LONG STORY SHORT WE BOUGHT THE DIAPER GENIE IN HOPES THAT WE COULD BANISH THE STINKS. AT THAT POINT THE PRICE OF THE REFILLS BECAME OF NO OBJECT...THE POOPY DESIGNER ROOM FRAGRANCE HAD TO GO.....THE DIAPER GENIE LASTED ONE DAY IN MY HOUSE. THE STINK WAS WRETCHED EVERY TIME WE OPENED THE TOP TO LOAD A DIAPER IN....AND IT WAS EVEN STINKIER EMPTYING THE QUARTER-FILLED PAIL......ALL IN ALL A MAJOR DISAPOINTMENT....DON'T BOTHER WASTING YOUR CASH ON THIS....STINKY AS IT WAS WHEN EMPTYING I AM BACK TO THE DIAPER CHAMP....AT LEAST IT DOES NOT SMELL WHEN I PUT A DIAPER IN.

Customer Review: No problems yet
Summary: 5 Stars

This is the first time that I ever used any kind of diaper disposal system, and someone actually told me not to get this one. However, I have been pretty happy with this so far. I have not had a problem at all with the odor coming from the diaper genie like some of the other customers say. The only time that you even smell an odor is when you open it to put in another diaper. But, let's be honest, don't you smell an odor when you put something in the trash can too? You can't really expect to smell nothing when you open any diaper disposal system! Plus, there was about 3 weeks that I didn't use the diaper genie(and I forgot to empty it), and neither me nor my husband nor any of our guests ever smelled one thing(I have it in my living room right now as we are waiting for the babies room to be finished) It seems to fit quite a bit of diapers in it...more than I thought that it would. Also, the disposal of the diapers into a trash can is very easy. All you have to do is hold down the scissor button and turn the knob until the scissor button pops up. Open the bottom and dump them out. No mess, no worrying about dropping diapers anywhere. The only thing about this is that sometimes it does not cut the film all the way, so I would check it before you decide to dump out all the diapers. I usually just cut it with scissors if it did not cut all the way. The only real downside that I have seen to the Diaper Genie so far is that the refills are pretty expensive. But, I'm still on my first refill and have used it pretty religiously for 2 months now. Overall, I am satisfied with it and would recommend it to anyone out there looking for a diaper disposal system.

Customer Review: The neat system is so much better!
Summary: 1 Stars

I bought the Neat system, and really liked it, but my husband didn't like the fact that you had to use two hands to put in the diaper. After about 10 months we decided to try a new system, and opted for the Champ! Our entire side of our house smelled like baby poop with the Champ. We then bought the Genie and our entire house smelled like poop and the pail was a pain to use. I couldn't use it one handed because I had to hold down the lid to turn it( it must have been defective). Then after a week of use, our pail stopped twisting the diapers. Playtex was very good about returning it, since Babies r Us wouldn't return a used pail (can't say I blame them).

I bought another Neat diaper system and am so happy with it. Yes you have to use two hands, but really after the baby is a few months old you can't really hold them up on the table one handed anyways because they are so swirmy. This truely is odor free, with the exception of when we change the plastic liner. Also, this holds at least twice as many diapers as the Genie or the Champ. We can go a week without changing the liner if we want to and there is still no odor. Everyone complains about the cost of refills verses the Champ, but really, the refill lasts at least a month, so for less than five dollars a month I can have a odor free home and not have to change the pail every two days. It's totally worth every penny! The neat system blow the genie out of the water. I can't believe that this was considered "improved". It was the worse of the three I tried.
