Customer Review: Worth the cost
Summary: 4 Stars

I'm a mom of a 6.5 month old and have used my diaper genie since she was born. There are some really good features to this item worth mentioning.
1. The scented refill does help "mask" the odor of diapers. It doesn't elimante them if the pail is left open or if the diapers sit for longer than a few days but I love the fact that I'm not constantly running to throw out dirty diapers each time I change her. That alone is a real time saver.
2. The refills do add to the cost of the product but I like knowing they will exactly fit the unit and at this point I'm still getting about 1 month of usage out of the refills. I tried to use leftover shopping bags in a typical diaper pail but they tended to tear just when you least wanted it (ie - #2 diaper)and buying specific size garbage bags was also adding cost but no real benefit (not scented or thick like the refill is)
3. The Diaper Genie is also compact and takes up very little space in the nursery. I don't want to draw attention to my diaper pail and it's just the right height and the foot print is small.

Customer Review: But why bother?
Summary: 4 Stars

After plenty of research and trials, we opted for the Genie. Though I only have experience with the Genie and Champ (for extended periods of time (diapers won't stink in any can for a day or two!), the Genie does have the twist seal which seems to keep odor to a minimum better than the Champ. We're fortunate enough to have our trash picked up twice a week where we live, so after the first couple months of our daughter's life, we started to use regular trash cans to throw out dirty diapers (we seem to change her diaper in every room of the house!). If you change your trash liners every couple of days, don't even bother with a special diaper can. A simple plastic trash bin with lid will certainly suffice. No can is able to eliminate odor. Spend the extra $30-50 on toys or a dinner out for yourself and your spouse! Just remember that if you invest in a special diaper pail, you always have to throw the diaper away in that bin...this can become cumbersome when you're changing 12-16 diapers a day for the first few months! And it may not even work to your expectations!

Customer Review: Loved the old one, too
Summary: 5 Stars

I have the old model Diaper Genie and the fact that this one has one-handed operation is great - it's the ONLY issue I have with the old one. A few comments on other reviews:

1. Some people claim the refills are too expensive. We get them at WalMart for less than $5 each and each one has lasted more than a month, even with a 7-month-old who poops like it's an Olympic sport. $5 a month is worth it for the convience of not having to change it as much as you would with a garbage bag - which are probably about as expensive.

2. Some people say it smells - I can't believe that. Even with our baby eating solid foods and making hideously stinky poops, there is NO odor in our nursery. Not even a little!! I empty it every 7-10 days and there is never, ever an odor coming from it, even when I am sitting next to it playing on the floor with the baby.

I love that it is easy to use, easy to empty and refill and that there is no smell at all. We don't use it for wet-only diapers and I would recommend it to everyone with an infant.

Customer Review: WISH I WOULD HAVE DONE MORE RESEARCH BEFORE DECIDING ON THIS PRODUCT
Summary: 1 Stars

I am not a fan of this product. When we first got it, I liked it just fine. The smell was confined, and the clean up was easy. Now that my son is 6 months old, I wish I hadn't registered for it. You have to go to BabysRUs everytime you need a refill. I go through refills about once a month (I have a genie upstairs, and one down stairs, if I had one, I'd probably have to go every 2 weeks). Having a baby in my life, I'm more frugile with my money and $10 a month on refills is not cool. They are glorified trash bags. Plus I have to go out of my way to go to BabysRUs, then you factor in impulse buys... it's not worth it. If I had invested in something like the Diaper Champ, I'd be able to use regular trash bags, that we have at our house, and the smell would still be confined. Plus you can throw things away like Q-tips without having to worry about the bag tearing. Than not realize the bag has teared, and you keep stuffing dirty diapers in it, and when you go to empty it out, you get a big fat smelly mess. This product stinks, literally.

Customer Review: LOVIN' THE DIAPER GENIE!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

We are LOVIN' the Diaper Genie! I originally purchased Kushies cloth diapers but had to wait before my newborn could fit them. So I started using disposable diapers (or nappies as my NZ hubby calls them) with the Diaper Genie. So for weeks I took the diaper off the newborn...opened the Diaper Genie....placed the diaper down....twist....GONE...I LOVE IT!! My husband and I have no problems with replacing the film or emptying the Diaper Genie when full. But we also know how to hook up VCRS/stereos/DVD players to our television. So in other words...some people may find it difficult...others won't. That's just how the world is. All I have to say is those Kushies diapers were marched back to Babies R Us as I couldn't picture myself teaching a full day then coming home to the joy of washing loads of dirty diapers when SNAP they are gone in the Diaper Genie in a matter of seconds! As for the cost of the refills....shhhhhh you can get them cheaper at your grocery store then here! But shhhh don't tell anyone! ;-) Cheers and enjoy your baby!!
