Customer Review: New and greatly improved!
Summary: 5 Stars

I had the older version with the clear lid but I'd had my eye on this "new and improved version" since I first found out about it. It looked so much easier to use but I already had one that worked just fine. Then one day the lid broke off and that was my cue to get this new one. The first improvement is the lid! It's not that clear plastic which means you can't see the green toddler refill (which clashes with the color scheme) but more importantly, it's much stronger. This one is also easier and less time consuming. You just drop the refill in and tie the bag in a knot. When you put the diaper in you just fit it between the clips, close the lid and turn it twice (you'll hear a click each time you complete a turn). Emptying it is easier too. You just turn it twice, then press the little button with the picture of the scissors and turn. The lid does the cutting for you. All you have to do is open the bottom and drop the contents into the trash. You don't even have to touch the bag of diapers. It takes a few tries to get used to doing it without having to think about each step, but trust me, it is so convenient. Some reviews complained about buying the refills, but when you have a child in disposable diapers you're going to have to buy something to hold them, either some kind of refills or allot more garbage bags than usual. I've been able to find some deals on the refills. Sometimes TRU or BRU will have coupons to buy them in bulk at a discount. I can also pick some up at the grocery store or drug store or just about any discount store. It's really not that big a deal. I have no idea what people are complaining about. My daughter's room has no odor. The Diaper Genie is easy to use, easy to carry, it's sturdy and it's a neutral color. I had an extra window valance that I tied around it so it will match the decor. It fits perfectly. I've even seen some Diaper Genie covers for sale. I don't know if the negative reviews are based on the previous version, but I highly recommend the New & Improved Diaper Genie. It makes diaper changes quick and tidy. I refuse to diaper without it.

Customer Review: I thought it was wonderful!!!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

Well, I started reading some of the reviews and I have to admit one thing, some of them really upset me. I don't think this is a bad product to buy AT ALL!!!!! It beats having your house smell like a bunch of nasty diapers!!!!! My daughter will be 2 in April (of 2005). I have used this thing ever since she was bought home from the hospital. I have LOVED IT!!!! It is so simple to use. I thought that when we first got it out that it was going to be very hard to operate. But, once my husband and I figured it out, everything worked perfectly from there on out! There was no problems except for one with it. I saw that someone else complained about this before. The top of mine broke off. The very top where you open it to put in the diaper. But, that is no big deal at all. That just means the whole lid comes off everytime you put a diaper in there. It isn't bad at all. That is the only thing that has gone wrong with it. I have explained it to my mother and my in-laws on how to use it and they picked right up with it and went on like it was nothing!!! It isn't that hard to work at all. Don't let the other people mislead you about this. I think that this product is one of the best inventions ever made!! And someone else on here said that they wished that the refills would show you an approximate amount of diapers that the refill will hold. Well, it does. Right on the refill. I have been using the infant refills for the whole time. They are cheaper than the toddler refills AND....they hold more diapers. The only difference is, the toddler one's are thicker. But, I don't see any since in paying more money with something that you can put less diapers into. That is just rediculous. The infant refills work just fine all the time. No matter what age. I love this product and will be using it with my next one (when I decide to have another baby). I hope that you found this useful. If you need extra assistance or advice with this, just e-mail me. My e-mail address is: Sugie111372@aol.com. I will be glad to help!!! Have a wonderful day and God Bless!!!

Customer Review: Got as gift but you need to be an octopus to use it.

I purchased the Genie II after fighting this thing for 6 months. Sorry I wasted so much time fighting this thing. You need 2 hand to operate this thing, and 1 hand to hold baby and another hand to hold the new diaper. I'd say, if you get this as a gift, take it back and get the Genie II or just use a large, lined trash can. If you're going to buy, there is no comparison, get the Genie II.

The Genie II is so much easier to use: 1. You can open the lid with one hand, where as the original has a button that has to be pushed while you're opening it (take 2 hands). 2. You just push the diaper through the trap door, instead of having to push the diaper through the spring loaded hole and having to turn the "crank" on the top to seal in the diaper. 3. The unit opens in the middle, which is the top of the part that contains the dirty diapers, instead of having to open it from the bottom (tip the entire unit over and pull the chain of diapers out). 4. The cutter is much easier to use, no buttons to push, just slide the top of the bag through the razor and tie it off, instead of having to push the button and crank the dial on top and turn and turn until it finally cuts through, then having to unlock the cutter so you don't continue to cut the bag instead of twisting the diaper in. 5. Unloading a single tub of dirty diapers is MUCH easier than pulling out pearls of separately twisted diapers and trying to find the ends, gather them all up (touching everything to keep the diapers together) while carrying them to the trash.

As far as the odor, I think they are about the same, both work pretty well. Someone wrote that these style only holds about 30 diapers and the new style holds about 180, I find that NOT to be the case. Both hold about the same number of diapers before having to empty, and for me, that is about 20 of the size 4 diapers (or so).

BTW, This IS the (so called) newest diaper genie twist away pail system. I can't believe they made one worse than this one. It is a PAIN to use.

Customer Review: It's a Rip Off!

I wish I had done my research before wasting my money on the Diaper Genie. This is the one thing I own that I really don't think is worth the $. It really doesn't work as expected. I've had mine for a year, so I'd say I've given it a fair chance. When you 1st start a new "sausage" it takes at least 5 or 6 diapers for it to start working properly & twisting them individually, in the mean time all of those smelly diapers are just hanging there in one large "sausage" bag together. By the time it really starts working like it's suppossed to, it's time to empty it for trash day, then you're right back at square one. Since my son is a year old & older babies don't poop near as much as newborns, it can take several days to get enough diapers for it to start working right, consequently when you open it to put in a new diaper, the smell of nearly a weeks worth of dirty diapers will knock you over. (I only use it for poopy diapers because wet ones don't really stink, so why spend the $ on the film for wet ones.) Also, the plastic is scented, so the combo of dirty diapers & "flowers" is more disgusting than the dirty diapers alone. It's so bad that I've quit even using mine. I just use the regular trash can. In the long run, I think they smell less when they are in the fresh open air of a regular trash can than when the smell is confined to the diaper genie. If, even after reading this review, you do go ahead & give the Diaper Genie a try, one thing to consider is that poopy diapers of breast fed babies don't really stink, (I know, I thought that was crazy too the 1st time someone told me, but it's true. Not like toddlers' diapers anyway.) so why even bother spending the $ on the film for the 1st 6 months. I put mine away until we started on solids, & just when I need it the most, it fails me! Also, the film may be expensive, but if you don't waste it on wet diapers, I have to admit, a refill will last a long time. This is a great concept if it would work, the only problem is that it doesn't work!

Customer Review: Save your money and buy the Diaper Dekor Plus instead
Summary: 2 Stars

I had a "diaper genie" for 4 years and finally got so fed up with how difficult it was to force the diapers into it, especially as it filld up, not to mention difficulty in changing the bags that I finally gave up and threw it away. But I was still stuck with smelly diapers, so I had to find something ASAP. And off I went on an internet search. I'm so glad that I chose the "Diaper Dekor Plus!!"

We've had the "Diaper Dekor Plus" system for 6 months now and it's the best invention because 1) it keeps odors in, 2) it's very user friendly, and 3) it can be easily used for other things after the kids grow out of the diaper stage. In addition it has a handy foot pedal so you don't even need to have your hands free to use it. And it has a real neutral look so you can easily continue to use it as a bathroom trashcan... or whatever.

Actually, we're planning on getting cats and I'm thinking this will be a real easy way to dispose of the litter box contents if for some reason we run into problems flushing the clumping litter. Kinda like a diaper pail for kitties!

In case you're trying to decide between the "Diaper Genie" and the "Diaper Dekor Plus", I'd say don't bother with that Genie!! Over time the round disk that the refill bag fits around gets all messed up on the bottom... the easiest way to describe it is 'chewed up' so it doesn't sit well (or eventually AT ALL) on the diaper genie.

On the other hand, the design of the Diaper Dekor Plus is so simple that it doesn't pose a problem with use or refills. It takes literally seconds to remove the contents or put a new refill in.

I scanned some reviews and noticed one from someone complaining about having trouble finding Diaper Dekor Plus refills. I haven't looked in local stores, but came on back to amazon.com and there it was. If I find something that works so well, it's worth it to me to purchase it on the net. But then again, I buy frequently on the net, so this doesn't phase me.
