Customer Review: Not what it's cracked up to be
Summary: 2 Stars

We registered for this product a year ago when I was pregnant with my son. I was excited when we received it, as it was deemed the latest and greatest thing on the market at the time. Well, it may have been the latest, but it has proved to be less than great. It was "somewhat" adequate in odor control before our son started solid foods (as long as we changed the bag every 2 days or so) but now, it fails in all respects as far as containing odor. Absolutely every time you put in a new diaper (and sometimes just opening up the lid) the smell hits you right in the face. My husband and I fight over having to change his diaper, but not because of the current change required -- rather, we just dread having to go in there and opening up the diaper genie to make a new deposit! Don't waste your money!!!

Customer Review: Simple to use, great odor control
Summary: 4 Stars

My husband and I went to Consumer Reports, read online reviews and went to the store to test the diaper disposal systems before we purchased one. We came down to the Diaper Champ and the Diaper Genie 2 and eventually purchased the Diaper Genie 2. The cons are that you have to buy the Diaper Genie 2 refills instead of just using any plastic bag, but this is far outweighed, in our opinion, by the odor control that the Diaper Genie 2 offers. We have had some very messy diapers, and pushing the diaper through the door to the bag has never been a problem. Changing the bags are easy, and changing the refills are easy too. We have never had a problem with odor. My mom was so impressed by how well it worked at our house that she purchased one to have at her house for when we visit.

Customer Review: Bad design
Summary: 1 Stars

We had the first generation Genie and it broke after a few years. It was a bit complex but I really liked it and it held up well to the use. We bought the second generation to replace the first, thinking it would be better and we were wrong!!!!. Though It is simpler it is poorly designed. It has a spring hinged flap that keeps the poopy diapers sealed off, the problem is that you have to push the poopy diaper down into the bag past the flap, and if there is any stray poop on the diaper it smears on the top side of the flap. This presents two problems, one there is poopy smell and two, if you are trying to push the diaper down into the receptical, your hand has to brush past the same place on the flap...not good. If you want a genei buy the first generation...not this one

Customer Review: LOVE IT!
Summary: 5 Stars

My husband was extremely concerned about diaper smells. He insisted that we register for this; he'd researched and heard that this was the best. This is the only product we've tried, but I have highly recommended it.

It keeps the smell away completely...the ONLY time I smell anything is if I accidentally release air from the bag when I'm tying it off to dispose of the bag (once a week). The nasty smells do not leak out in between.

I usually throw wet (aka not stinky) diapers in the regular trash, and this makes it more economical, since the refills can be pricy. By doing this, we only go through a refill every 4-6 weeks. I think it is well worth the money to not have to smell stinky diapers all the time! A great purchase -- I highly recommend!

Customer Review: easy to use, but not completely odor-free
Summary: 3 Stars

First off, this is the first diaper pail I've owned, so I can't compare to other products. The operation is pretty easy -- after you "break in" the opening latch it's easy to open and put the diaper in. I like the push-through mechanism and the sanitary way to dispose of the diapers. However, I don't think it's completely odor-free. When my son makes a stinky diaper I can still smell it for hours. I think I may try to install a deodorizer on the inside of the lid to knock down some of the smell! Also, the refill cartridges are EXPENSIVE -- we go through more than 1 per week and we don't even put all the diapers in the pail!! But, other than that, it's a good product. The bag removal is easy and the cutter works great!
