Baby Products Reviews of Playtex Diaper Genie Elite Diaper Disposal PailCustomer Review: Great Product ... Unique Use Summary: 5 Stars
I scoured the reviews before I decided to purchase this because I was NOT buying it for diapers, but still didn't find exactly what I was looking for. I decided to purchase it anyway because I really needed a convenient, inexpensive way to deal with this issue. I have two dogs and live in a very residential, close-home area with a Home Owners Association (HOA) that DEMANDS all poop is picked up and removed immediately. I use the doggy biodegradable bags but they do NOTHING to eliminate the horrible odor. If you put them in your house garbage can, the whole house stinks. If you throw them into a bag and then into the garage garbage can, the whole garage smells. I was at the end of my rope researching this problem. I bought this Diaper Genie and believe me, the problem is gone. I no longer have that horrendous odor to deal with. It is so easy to load and remove a full bag and it is worth the cost of the refills. I keep it right in my kitchen. It holds endless bags of dog poop and I change it once every week right before the garbage is picked up. I hope this review helps someone else who may be looking to purchase this item for the same reason. I have two children and never used a Diaper Genie when they were babies (they are now 10 and 16)! I don't remember ever thinking I needed one and never remember a horrible odor in the house either. Get a dog and boy does that change!
Customer Review: Great design, keeps the smell out! Summary: 5 Stars
I previously used Diaper Genie I when my five year old was an infant. My complaint with that was having to put my hand into the bag and down into the pail which sometimes meant getting hands dirty. Also, it was short which meant me having to bend down a lot which is not great for the back.
I bought the Diaper Genie Elite for my newborn this year. It was well worth the extra twenty bucks. The design is very simple - much like a foot pedal trash can. It's also taller, which eliminates having to bend down to put in a diaper. All you have to do is press a foot pedal and the top opens up. Drop the diaper in and you're done. I never notice a smell in the room. The only time I smell anything is when I empty it, which is to be expected.
Also, installing the bag and emptying the bag is very, very easy. To empty: Open the pail, use the internal cutter to cut the bag, tie it off - done. To install a bag: drop the refill in, pull the bag down and tie it off - done. As for the refills - I just started on my third refill after 9 weeks of diapers. So the refills are lasting about 4 1/2 weeks for an infant.
If you can afford the extra money, I definitely recommend it. It definitely hurt the wallet paying for it but I haven't regretted it once. I'm not sure why the price is so high on Amazon, but I got mine much cheaper at Walmart.
Customer Review: Go with Diaper Genie II Summary: 2 Stars
I've come to realize that there's no such thing as a perfect diaper pail. I had that in mind and tried to choose one between this DG Elite II and the DGII. In my opinion, DGII wins by a wide margin.
I tried this Elite II first. It doesn't seem to have the tight sealing mechanism, or any kind of mechanism for that matter. If I open it, put a diaper on it, and shut it down, then the diaper is supposed to disappear by the time I open it again. Like a post box. At least that was my understanding. However, when I open it again, the diaper's still there. I guess the Elite is designed for those who don't want to touch the pail with hands and push a diaper touching the liner. As much as I like the idea, it is not executed well by this particular model.
It also makes noises whenever the lid shut down after each use. Thankfully, I bought it from a local store so I could return it. If you buy it online, good luck returning it. It comes in two pieces. Once assembled, it is impossible to dissemble it and it wouldn't fit the original box, so I'm not sure how you'd return it..
I ordered DGII online as the local store didn't carry it anymore. It operates differently. I have to open it with my hands (not with my foot as with the Elite), and push a diaper into the pail. I like this one much better as it does its job much better.
Customer Review: I hate this thing. Summary: 1 Stars
We have 2 girls, 21 months apart, whose bedrooms are in the opposite ends of the house, so when the second girl was born, we needed to buy a second diaper pail as well.
Our first was/is a Diaper Dekor Plus. We were quite happy with it when our first was breastfeeding, but when she went to solids, and her poop developed stronger odor, we were less enthralled. So, when the second came around, we thought we'd try this one.
Mistake.
This thing uses proprietary bags which hold only enough diapers to fill a small percentage of the actual size of the pail (which is quite large). The Dekor holds far more.
However, since this thing STINKS, I guess that's not a bad thing. I understand what they were thinking when they designed it, but did they test it? Every time we open it to drop in a diaper, a wave of horror awaits our nasal passages. Thankfully, it sits outside, so that helps a bit.
It has air holes in it, which 1) contributes to the external stench, but also 2) allows lots of water in when it rains. I realize this is a particular issue for those who are able to put their pail outside, but I thought it warranted comment just the same.
If I had it to due again, I would buy another Dekor. This thing is a joke.
Customer Review: Can't Live Without It Summary: 4 Stars
My mother actually gave me this product at my baby shower for my first daughter. I absolutely cannot imagine life without it. The bags you have to continue to refil obviously but it is definatly worth the money. Especially during the first year.
The design of the diaper genie somehow actually keeps the smell from drifting around the room, even for weeks depending on how quickly you can fill it up. I love the footpetal that opens the diaper genie without having to use my hands, because we all know my hands are full 100% of the time.
My only bad comment on this product is the fact that I broke it after a year. I let it get entirely too full and somehow broke the spring that opens the footpetal. My husband sort of rigged it to open again but technically it is still broken but my own fault.
Would suggest this product to anyone it definatly is very convinent and helpful even almost two years later.
