Baby Products Reviews of Playtex 3 Pack BPA Free VentAire ADVANCED Wide Bottles, 9 Ounce, Colors VaryCustomer Review: Just OK for me Summary: 2 Stars
I have tried various bottles, including Avent and Dr. Brown's, and the Ventaire are my least favorite. They are currently stashed in the back of my cupboard and I would only use them if I had no others available. I do like the fact that the bottom of the bottle comes off for easy cleaning but I have found that unless you have the bottom disc centered exactly, the bottom leaks. Not a problem if you take the time to put it together correctly but in the middle of the night, I am lucky I can stand upright, let alone put a bottle with several pieces together. Also, you can't use these bottles in a bottle warmer and if you use a pan of water to warm them, the warm water collects between the disk and the bottom ring and drips out onto the baby during feeding. My biggest complaint - I absolutely hate the nipples. They are so hard and rigid! My daughter seems to have a lot of difficulty with them so I have simply put them away and started using the others. One good point - they are OK for water and/or juice, but this is because the hard, inflexible nipples don't allow for a fast enough flow. Overall, I would not buy them again.
Customer Review: Not too thrilled with these.... Summary: 3 Stars
Before my son was born these bottles were recommended to me by a friend. At first I thought they were pretty cool because the bottom ring came off and I didn't really end up with a need for a bottle brush. HOWEVER - I have found that they leak no matter how the bottom vent discs are put in. I have always had the problem. Now, by leak I don't mean that the liquid is running out...I mean if left to sit for a period of time (with water in the bottle in a diaper bag or on the counter), when you pick up the bottle you will see little dropplets of water on the surface in exact location of the holes in the "one way" vent. Nursing didn't work out for us for a number of reasons so he has been formula fed. As a result, I need to take bottles with water in them in the diaper bag so that I can mix the formula when he needs to eat. I have often ended up with a wet diaper bag if the bottle ends up left there for any period of time. So sad...especially since they are amongst the most expensive bottles of the bunch!! I wish I would have stuck with my own opinion and insisted on the Avent bottles. I much prefer them!
Customer Review: Hold your horses Summary: 3 Stars
We bought these bottles for our infant daughter also hoping that it will help prevent spit ups. She didn't like it as it was difficult to suck on.
And don't even try using other brands of nipples with these bottles as they won't work. Here's why. Most bottles that have only one open end have 2 holes on the nipples, 1 at the tip and 1 on the base of the nipple for drawing air into the bottle. (And I'd thought it was air from my baby while sucking). These Playtex ones have only 1 hole for letting milk out at the tip of the nipple and at the bottom of the bottle is where dozens of holes are to draw air to compensate the vacuum inside the bottle.
My 18 month old is now using these as she hated them months ago.
My biggest complain is cleaning them. I have one of those special clean tools that's a brush with a sponge at the end. The design of the bottle at the area where you screw the caps is especially hard to clean without something small like a toothbrush as residue traps inside the bottle at this area.
Overall, aside from cleaning it it's a great product.
Customer Review: Use some common sense. Get these bottles. Summary: 5 Stars
Folks, any bottle will leak if you don't seal it properly.
We used the narrow VentAire bottles on our first child, and are now using the wide ones on our second. The only time we've ever had a leak was when we didn't screw on the bottom properly. It's not rocket science.
Some folks say these have a "lot of parts", or are hard to assemble. Bottle, top, bottom, disc and nipple. It's not like assembling a radio from a pile of transistors and a soldering iron. You want a bottle that's hard to assemble? Get a Dr. Brown's. Or try the Evenflow Elan -- I dare you to get the nipple in the ring on your first try.
Go to Target. Get a couple of the baskets for the parts (the kind that the nipples go in the top). Don't overfill the baskets. Put them in the top rack of the dishwasher along with the bottle itself. Wash them, be happy.
These bottles are great at preventing a vacuum from forming in the bottle, reducing the amount of gas that baby receives. Of course, your baby will get SOME gas and will still need to be burped, but it's a whole lot less.
Customer Review: IT'S THE NIPPLE THAT MAKES THIS WORK Summary: 5 Stars
1. This is the only nipple my new baby likes. She didn't like the nipples that her older twin brother/sister used. Making the transition from breast to bottle was fairly simple, as long as I heat the bottle of milk up first! lol
2. Bottle is easier to clean. Sure it comes in pieces, but I like the fact that because the bottom comes apart, I can really get the bottles clean. The bottom of the conventional bottles would never get quite that clean, even when I use those bottle brushes. The brushes don't get into the crevices on the bottom so there's that thin layer of dried milk or something that's always there.
3. Ergonomically correct in shape. Easy for me to hold, and for the baby to hold as well. Since the bottle curves upwards, the weight of the bottle is dispursed centrally so the baby has an easier time holding it.
4. It seems like I don't have to burp her so often, and she doesn't spit up.
5. Doesn't leak if you have it screwed on correctly.
