Baby Products Reviews of Philips Avent iQ Bottle Warmer

Customer Review: Not perfect, but a very good performer. Way better than using your microwave.
Summary: 4 Stars

We bought this because we read that microwaving milk for your infant is not a good idea (possibility for toxins from the bottle; can easily overheat the milk), and warming milk on the stove (boiling water) is time intensive - if you have a crying baby on your hands, every second counts.

Pros: Easy to use, has settings for frozen, refrigerated & room temperature. You can operate it one handed!

Cons: While you can operate it one handed - the circumference of the warmer and the circular shape make it a little hard to grip. I found the recommended settings to be a little off (didn't warm the milk enough).

Tips: This is just my personal experience - so take it for what it's worth. I only used it with refrigerated or room temp milk. I set number of ounces one number higher than the amount of milk I had in the baby bottle. Don't try to use it to thaw milk in a frozen plastic bag (big mess - and the reason I only used it for room temp & refrig. milk) Make sure the water level is just even with the removable screen in the bottom of the warmer. If you leave the just warmed bottle in the warmer for very long after it's done, it will overheat the milk. I always swirled the bottle after I took it out of the warmer to ensure even warmth. This is a "No Brainer", but.. ALWAYS TEST THE MILK BEFORE GIVING IT TO YOUR CHILD.

Recommended to friends: Yes.

Customer Review: Stopped Functioning on me Twice!! and Manufacturer refused to replace.
Summary: 1 Stars

I bought this bottle warmer when my son was born. For first two months, I was breastfeeding my baby so I didn't have chance to use the warmer and it was still brand new in a never opened box. When I resumed my work again, I started using it and after two weeks, one morning, it just stopped working. Later on, I figured the tip that presses the sensor to activate the warmer did not push the sensor deep enough. So I had to place tiny folded piece of tissue in between the sensor and the tip (everytime I used...) to make it work. However, I figured it wouldn't be very convenient for long term so I decided to return it to the Avent manufaturer. Avent replaced it with a new one....but guess what.. it stopped working exactly after 3 weeks with the very same problem. When I called them again, Avent refused to replace once more and they blamed me for not descaling it regularly. I mean, in three weeks, how many descaling do you need for a machine to not stop working!!! I was very upset and contacted Amazon and explained the situation. Thanks to Amazon because they refunded 80% of what I paid for even though they are not obligated to do that at all.
I use a lot of Avent products and they are great, but not this one. Also, I'm very dissapointed in their poor customer service.

Customer Review: worth the investment
Summary: 4 Stars

As parents of a newborn who gets hungry and cries very suddenly when he's hungry, we recommend this bottle warmer. We have used the 4 oz and 9 oz Avent bottles and the 8 oz Born Free (plastic) bottles successfully in the warmer. There is a top flap that opens and does not close tightly when using Avent 11 oz or the Born Free 9 oz bottles. This makes the time estimates a little off. We've learned to adapt by adding an ounce or two to the size selection feature.

The button selections are a little annoying to get used to. Avent uses as few buttons as possible for multiple functions by holding it down or pressing quickly. This can be annoying in the middle of the night, but once you're used to it, it's not so bad.

Before using this, we were warming bottles from the fridge using a container of hot tap water. This is so much faster and makes our baby so much happier. It is much easier to feed him when he hasn't worked himself up while waiting too long for a bottle.

Amazon's price was $15 lower than the popular baby stores in our area.

Customer Review: excellent bottle warmer
Summary: 5 Stars

I have two bottle warmers from Avent, this one and the "Express Baby Food and Bottle Warmer." The IQ warmer is far superior. You can quickly program it for a bottle that contains milk at room temperature, or that's been refrigerated or frozen, and then program the number of ounces that you're warming. The result is milk that is at a good temperature every time. We use glass bottles and those work just fine. We have 3 month old twins, so the warmer gets a lot of use, and while it seems to take an eternity when the babies are wailing for their food, it only takes about 5 mins to warm 6 ounces.

The Express warmer doesn't have any of the programming features, so you end up just guessing when the milk is warmed enough, and it's very easy to overheat the milk. I always check it on my wrist anyway, but I sometimes worry that at 3am when my mind is in a fog I might let it get too hot. I have much more peace of mind with the IQ.

Customer Review: Not bad...

Pros:
- Uses steam to heat so it's much quicker than an immersion heater.
- Also doesn't have the bacterial concerns with the warm stagnant water of an immersion heater.
Cons:
- It has several different settings, but no memory. So each time you want to heat a bottle, you have to press one of the two buttons over and over until it's at the setting you need. For instance, to heat a refrigerated 4 oz bottle, you have to press the buttons six times every time. During the day, it's clumsy and annoying. But one handed in the middle of the night with a crying baby in your arms, it's frazzling.
- Pretty accurate for Avent bottles but you have to play around with the settings if you use another kind. I use standard neck bottles and have to add an ounce to the cook time.
Overall it's not bad, but if I was doing it again I would choose a steam heater with settings I didn't have to reset every time.
