Baby Products Reviews of Philips Avent Isis Comfort Breast ShellsCustomer Review: Not what I hoped Summary: 2 StarsI ordered these because I had very sore nipples after nursing my daughter. I knew that exposing the nipple to air was supposed to help, so I thought these would work. However, I wasn't able to wear them. The shells are quite large, so unless you have a bra that is at least 2 cup sizes bigger than what you normally wear, they press into your breasts and become uncomfortable in a few minutes. I didn't want to order larger bras, so I couldn't use these. I never used the shells for catching leaked milk, so I can't comment on if that aspect of them.
Customer Review: Very Handy! Summary: 4 StarsI wish I'd had this with my first child! I use them to collect the leaking milk while I am breastfeeding, usually close to 2oz. Don't get me wrong they do leak milk all over if I leak too much but they are comfortable & easy to use & clean. Much better than holding a cup/bottle to catch the extra milk - MUCH more descrete & less laundry than all the nursing pads I would be using. These make it very easy for me to put milk away for future use.
Customer Review: They're okay... Summary: 4 StarsThey actually work better than I thought, but don't plan on going anywhere with them (because they make you look absolutely huge), and sleeping with them doesn't really work either. They have to be emptied often or else the milk gets all over the place.
Customer Review: Saves leaked breastmilk, protects cracked nipples Summary: 4 StarsSummary: Works great for collecting leaked breastmilk and thereby minimizing waste; ventilated shells are great relief for injured nipples; appearance drastically improves if worn with a lightly padded bra
Product comes with two soft bases (rings fitting around nipple), and two sets of covers: one ventilated (with holes), and one without holes.
Pros:
- ventilated shells protect irritated or damaged nipples from contact with clothing, reducing irritation and allowing healing without blocking air from the skin
- ventilated shells can collect a couple ounces of milk (if you're mindful of the holes at the top)
- solid (no hole) shells can collect 2-3 ounces of milk and have convenient pouring spouts
- base is shaped pointing out which is desirable for flat nipples
Cons:
- soft base (ring with hole for the nipple to fit through) can cause skin irritation if left on too long due to moisture accumulation
- outward appearance through clothing varies greatly depending on breast size and type of bra used; seems to be designed to contour with size C at most
Customer Review: collects a lot of milk Summary: 5 StarsIt has 2 main uses:
1) great for sore nipples. You can use it for a couple of hours to improve healing
2) When i breastfeed my baby i use it in the breast that is not in "use". By the time my son finish with the other breast it has collected a lot of milk!!
