Baby Products Reviews of Philips Avent Express Baby Food and Bottle WarmerCustomer Review: Good product Summary: 4 Stars
OK, at first glance this product seemed like something I might regret. The lack of an on/off button and no timer or automatic shut-off made this seem like a product I would come to hate. However, I'm sure there is no on/off button as this is an electrical appliance that also uses water. For safety reasons it is much better to unplug it, however slightly inconvenient that may be. Also, the lack of a timer or automatic shut-off would be irritating as this warmer warms a variety of sizes of bottles and baby food, each requiring a different amount of time. I would be more annoyed if I waited for the timer to find that it was either too hot or still too cold. So, though a warmer with a brain would be ideal, this one is pretty darn good. The instructions state the exact amount of time required for different size bottles (disposable and non-disposable) and for jars of baby food. I keep mine on the kitchen counter, put in the bottle, fill with water, plug in, set a kitchen timer accordingly -- and walah! I have a perfectly warmed bottle. As far as I'm concerned it does what it says and is much safer than the guesswork of trying to warm in a microwave (risking hot spots) or the long wait of warming on the stove (which I always managed to overheat anyway). Don't know how it works with non-Avent bottles, but I love it and am so glad to have it!
Customer Review: We love it Summary: 4 Stars
We've always used the microwave (most of the time) or a jug of hot water (when a mircowave wasn't available) to warm our first two children's bottles of formula - this worked fine for us as we knew the exact time to make the bottle just right.Unfortunately my third child had to spend some time in hospital when he was two weeks old. What we learned from his nurses is that microwaves can 'zap' a lot of goodness out of your formula (the hosptial used a microwave as well until they were told this). We also learned that the prescription only formula he now has to have tastes digusting when not kept very warm. Hence our decision to purchase the Avent bottle warmer. What we like about it is that it is easy to re-warm our bottles during a feed when the need arises and keeps all the goodness in the formula. The lack of an on/off switch is a bit annoying but we just turn it off at the plug. The fact that the light goes on and off as it's keeping the water at a constant temperature is also a bit of a pain as at 2am in a dimly lit kitchen you can just assume you already turned off the plug when you haven't if the light is out. Despite these negatives things, they far outweigh the advantages for us of keeping our son's formula nice and warm. It's easy to use, easy to keep clean and has worked pefectly from the day we bought it. We love it.
Customer Review: Very Disappointing Summary: 1 Stars
I really like all of the Advent products....except this one! I did not do my homework and check reviews prior to purchasing this item and was sorely disappointed. I liked the warmer because it was compact and fit the Advent bottles and even though it was more expensive that the others I was 'sold' on it because it was made by Advent. However, I returned this product and would not recommend it to anyone unless the following items were perfected:1) The thermostat in the warmer is very inconsistant, so you cannot rely on the specific times listed in the manual for the bottle to be at the right temperature (sometimes too cold and sometimes too hot) -- which can seem like a lifetime when your baby is crying. 2) The markings for the water level are not that easy to see (especially in the middle of the night). 3) There is no timer so you need to keep track of how long the bottle is in the warmer (I used a kitchen timer to help me out here). 4) And, the MOST inconvenient feature of all....You must unplug the unit after each use. This is a real hassle and a safety issue if you forget or if the plug gets wet while on the counter. And, if your outlets are hard to reach like mine you wind-up pulling on the cord to get it out. All in all - Advent is a great company and makes a great product...this however is not one of them.
Customer Review: WHEN HUNGER STRIKES Summary: 5 Stars
I REGISTERED FOR THE EXPRESS BABY BOTTLE/FOOD WARMER AND IT IS A LIFE SAVER. NOT ONLY FOR ME BUT ALSO FOR THE BABY AND FOR THOSE DADS THAT SOMETIMES AREN'T SURE IF THE BOTTLE IS JUST TOO HOT. WHEN I FIRST TRIED THE BOTTLE WARMER AND SAW HOW JUST RIGHT IT CAN HEAT UP THE BOTTLE I SAID "WOW". (ESPECIALLY, WHEN YOU NEED TO GET UP FOR THOSE MID NIGHT FEEDINGS.) WHAT MY SUGGESTION IS FOR THOSE MOTHERS WHO HAVE BABIES THAT WILL JUST SCREAM AWAY IF THAT BOTTLE IS NOT READY WHEN THEY ARE - IS GET THE AVENT BOTTLE WARMER. THIS IS MY ROUTINE. I PREPARE ALL BOTTLES IN THE MORNING AND PUT THEM IN THE REFRIGERATOR. I PUT ONE IN THE WARMER WHEN I GET UP IN THE AM - WHEN BABY GETS UP THE BOTTLE IS READY. I FEED THE BABY, BURP AND PUT HER TO SLEEP OR REST. BY THAT TIME ITS ALREADY PAST AN HOUR. IF YOUR BABY NEEDS TO BE FED LIKE MINE EVERY TWO HOURS - YOU PUT THE NEXT BOTTLE IN AS SOON AS YOU LAY THAT BABY DOWN. AND WHEN THE NEXT FEEDING TIME COMES AROUND THAT BOTTLE IS JUST PERFECT. ANOTHER SUGGESTION, WHEN GOING OUT HEAT THE BOTTLE AT THE NEXT LEVEL THAN YOU NORMALLY FEED THE BABY AND BY THE TIME THE BABY NEEDS A BOTTLE - IT IS JUST RIGHT. (THAT IS CONSIDERING YOU FEED THE BABY BEFORE LEAVING THE HOUSE AND ARE TAKING AN EXTRA BOTTLE).

Consider another bottle warmer before getting this one.
Cons:
~This bottle warmer needs an auto shut-off. There have been too many instances where my husband or I would forget to shut the unit off. The unit is then out of water and incredibly hot. I can only imagine that this is a fire hazard. A lot of times I find myself in the middle of the night worrying if I had turned the unit off or not.
~The instructions tell you to fill the warmer just above the milk level with water. The instructions also say that you should have the basket in place. I have found it difficult to see the milk level when using the basket.
~The floating bottle problem. If you have 2oz of milk in the bottle and you add water the bottle tends to float, which causes the milk to heat unevenly.
~This warmer could also really use an alarm/timer of some kind. I find that a lot of times I just can't stand around waiting for the bottle to warm. The result is scorching hot milk.
~If you damage the cord you have to discard the whole unit.
~Pricey!!
Pros:
~It's pretty compact and doesn't take up much room on the kitchen counter.
~It has little tabs on the bottom to wind up the cord when not in use.
