Customer Review: Why my Avent bottles don't leak anymore
Summary: 4 Stars

This feeding system was recommended by my lactation consultant as having the best nipples to promote establishing breastfeeding. More expensive than most other bottles, but I invested, and proceeded to soak my daughter's chest almost every time I used them. Fluid leaked like crazy from between the bottle and the nipple assembly, and my husband threatened more than once to heave the lot of them with even greater force than he used to torque the bottles together (which did nothing to stem the leaking anyway).

But there's the simple solution, right on the leaflet in the package, where it was surely ignored by all of us who thought for crying out loud we knew how to put a baby bottle together: Put all THREE parts of the top together before screwing them onto the bottle. Assemble the nipple and the white ring, then set them down on the counter and push the dome straight on BEFORE you put the whole thing on the bottle. Don't ask me why this works, but it does.

This trick isn't 100 percent foolproof -- I still put them in the diaper bag inside quart-size zip-locks, which fit them perfectly -- but it seems to minimize the problem.

Customer Review: Don't waste your money
Summary: 1 Stars

I spent SO much money on these bottles while I was pregnant, because they were supposively the best bottles to use while breastfeeding. The bottles are expensive so I thought they must be good bottles. WRONG. Expensive does not always equal good. I tried using these bottles when my baby was two weeks old, and the feeding session ended in complete frustration on mine AND my baby's part. The nipple shape is horrible. Even the newborn nipples are WAAAAAY too long for a newborn's mouth ( and my baby has a BIG mouth. He was 9 lbs at birth) . Not to mention that these bottles let him suck SOOOO much air and caused him to spit up several times. I thought maybe my baby was just having problems with taking a bottle, so I went and bought the Playtex VentAire. Those bottles are a LOT cheaper and much better. He took the bottle immediately and didn't get NEARLY the amount of air. Don't waste your money on these bottles. They are NOT the "best" bottles to use while breastfeeding. SO if you are pregnant, don't make the same mistake that I did and buy a whole load of these bottles thinking that they are the best.

Customer Review: Cute but messy
Summary: 3 Stars

I asked for these on my registry because I thought they were cute and because I heard that they were good for the transition from breast to bottle. Well those two points proved to be true. What I didn't expect was the amount of leakage that can occur. If the cap isn't twisted on just right, these bottles will leak really bad. And the only way to make sure is to hold the bottle on the side to see if it will leak. I also found that it really doesn't eliminate the chance for your baby to swallow air, but I think that is with any bottle. I do like that wide neck that these bottles have cause I can scrub the bottom of the bottle with a dishcloth not just a brush which I feel doesn't truely clean the bottle (just my opinion). And the wide neck makes it easy to pour milk into when you've only got one hand. If you use the Avent breastpump it is really great that the bottle connects directly to the pump, and can be used to store the breastmilk. One other drawback is that the 9oz bottle seems to be too big aroud for my baby to hold. However he is only four months and probably just needs more practice.

Customer Review: We love these bottles & the whole Avent system!
Summary: 5 Stars

I debated whether or not to go with Avent because of the mixed reviews. I am so glad we decided to try it. I have the Avent Isis pump, which I love. I just pump directly in the bottle (or Avent breast milk container) and put a sealing disk on. When its time for our son to eat I either thaw the frozen milk, or heat the refrigerated milk, put a nipple on the bottle and feed him. Its so convenient! I also pump into a disposible milk bag and use it with the Avent disposible bottle. I don't care much for the Avent bags, but I love the Gerber ones. They are self standing, and less hassle to deal with. We use the bottles to give him formula too, and they work well.

When have never had any trouble with leaking or anything from these bottles. I'm not sure what we're doing different from other people. I have read advice from others saying not to screw the tops on too tight. We have tried to follow that advice and have no problems so far. I also highly recommend the electric sterilizer, and the bottle warmer. I just can't say enough good things about these products!

Customer Review: HORRIBLE Bottles
Summary: 1 Stars

These bottles were purchased for me as a baby shower gift. They were also highly praised by a friend. When I brought my daughter home from the hospital I couldn't wait to start using them. Well...they are HORRIBLE. If your child is drinking 4oz, about 3 1/2 of the ounces will leak down the child's face and neck. These bottles didn't help either with gass! I then tried Playtex Vent-Aire, yet again..another horrible bottle. I now use Dr. Brown's and I must say (with fingers crossed) they are great. They don't leak, my daughter is actually drinking the formula instead of it leaking out of her mouth. The nipple actually fits inside her mouth! I'm convincing friends and family with baby's on the way to think twice about this product.

AND for all you "first time moms" don't do what I did and sterlize every bottle before the baby comes home. I am now stuck with 18 bottles that I will not use because I thought I was doing myself a favor by sterlizing all of them to be put away! Big mistake. Test the bottles out first to see if you like them or not.
