Customer Review: DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!

MY ADVICE: Buy several brands of bottles and try them all before investing in expensive bottles like Avent.
I began using avent bottles for the first two months of my son's life. My son had terrible gas problems. The nipples are hard and my son sucks in air through the corners of his mouth. After a while, the bottles began leaking. I know other reviews say to read the instructions to put the bottles together correctly, but who has time to fuss around with all of that when you have a screaming baby?!?! I eventually gave in and purchased THE FIRST YEARS Soothie Bottles. The nipples are much softer, which makes it easier for Cooper to seal his mouth around the nipple. My son loves his soothie pacifier as well. We are not exclusive to the soothie bottles (we have bought many other cheaper bottles such as evenflo classic and the gerber tinted bottles). He does well with all of these because the nipples are so much softer. Also, we have not had any problems with these bottles leaking. And lastly, we don't have to spend $12 on three bottles. I have recently sold my avent bottles at a mom-2-mom sale. I will never waste my money on expensive bottles again!

We used these bottles sporadically when my daughter was a newborn, however I mostly breastfed for 5 months. We thought it was important upon the advice of our pediatrician that as a supplement to breastfeeding, she also get one bottle a day. At first she took the Avent bottle, but then she balked and wouldn't take this bottle at all. I think the nipples are way too fast, as you may see if you buy them, all you have to do is tip the bottle upside down and milk shoots out (even the "slow" newborn nipples). I also think they are too big for some babies mouths, as well as letting a ton of air in the bottle. I then tried the Gerber bottles with smaller nipples, which also allow too much air in. Finally, and for the past 6 1/2 months, we have been using the Playtex Vent-Aire. There are NO AIR BUBBLES WHATSOEVER!!! We use the regular nipple, which only allows milk out as my baby sucks. There is also a Natural Vent-Aire, but I think these nipples are like Avent's, too big. I see a lot of people use the Avents, so it must work for some people. However they are very trendy, but not nearly the best as I had heard before having my baby.Customer Review: Didnt like the Avent Bottles at all...

My baby was born full term 7lbs and I was interested in breastfeeding. After the c-section, the hospital supplemented with formula and then I was given the option of breastfeeding later that day. When i got home, I tried so many diferent bottles. I started with the Playtex VentAire and find that the nipples would collapse. So I switched to the Playtex Nurser and those were horrible. The milk just flowed all out of the corners of his mouth. Next I switched back to the VentAire and upon recommendation from so many people I Tried these Avent Bottles which are so highly endoresed yet overated. I personally did not like them. The milk just flowed into his mouth all out the corners and not allowing him to put forth any effort.I thought he was going to choke. I gave up after this one attempt and went back to the Vent Aire because at least those make him suck and milk just doesnt flow out so easily. Well needless to say, i bought some Dr. Browns and I am cureious to see how these will work. In the meantime, i would stay away from the Avent bottles for now and am continuing to breastfeed and supplement with the Vent Aire bottles.Customer Review: Don't waste the money

It's 3am in the morning and needless to say, this is NOT the time that I would normally choose to be on the computer writing an on-line review. In fact, I've never written one of these reviews before, but I used them to research products when I was registering and I had to take the time to write one now and try to warn others. I have been using the Avent bottles since my son was born 9 weeks ago and I have never been so dissatisfied with a product! These bottles LEAK! They are awful. I just had a nightmare 3am feeding (actually all 3am feedings are nightmares, but this one was even worse than usual!). The bottle leaked all over my son, me, my floor, my table. I had to interrupt my son's feeding several times to wash him off and try to stop the flow of milk onto my floor- I even had to change his bib 3 times because it had soaked through. These leaks seem to happen all the time- I have actually thrown out one or two bottles, hoping that there was a strange, abnormal "defect" with one of the bottles or the nipple, etc, but NO- these bottles are just leaking! I like the Advent bottles and have a breastfed baby. We've had no nipple confusion as alluded to by one of the previous reviewers, but we waited until she was 4 weeks old to start using a bottle. As for leaking, if the cap isn't on properly, then yes, it will leak, but so will any bottle. If there's any leaking, it comes from our daughter getting distracted and not sealing properly - not the bottles. We love that these bottles came with the newborn pacifiers. I think this is a great starter package and would make a great gift.
My one and only disappointment is that although the set comes with the larger bottles for larger babies, the nipple sizes are a for 0-1 month. True, we've been using them through three months, but it's time for the larger nipples and if you're including the larger bottles, why not the nipples that go with them? Philips Avent Medium Flow Nipple, Avent Fast Flow Silicone Nipple
