Baby Products Reviews of Philips AVENT Manual breast pump Out and about setCustomer Review: Excellent pump for a working mom Summary: 5 StarsThis was the third manual pump I purchased, and I was relieved to find that I finally got it right! It's wonderful, and is recommended on many of the nursing-moms bulletin boards I frequent. I have an electric pump as well, and find myself using this manual pump more frequently.
It's easy to use, and carry from place to place. I pump a couple times each day at work, and have pumped in the car and even in a public bathroom in a pinch. It's quiet and effective. There are a few parts to wash (my only criticism), but it's worth it for the quality of this product.
Overall, I highly recommend this!
Customer Review: Excellent Pump! Summary: 5 StarsI bought my first Avent Isis pump 8 years ago with my 1st daughter. I still have the original pump and it works fabulously and I purchased a second pump ofr my 3rd baby. While the breastfeeding thing did not work out for any of my kids I did use the pump for all of my babies to get breastmilk even though I could not breastfeed directly. I pumped 3 months and fed in bottles for my 2nd child, then with my 3rd baby I pumped and fed in bottles for 4 months, I just had my 4th baby and we are having to do the same thing. This time I borrowed a friend's electric model thinking it would save time, and I thought it was ok but then it stopped working for some reason and I had to go dig out my old manual Avent Isis pump to finish the job.....I realized it was taking me 30+ mins to get 6-10 oz of milk out of both breasts with the electric pump and the avent pump it took me only 10 mins to pump the same amount manually! So back to the Avents for me. I have the two of them, and I pump both breasts at once. While it seems a bit hard on the hands to hold at times(starts to kinda feel uncomfy in your hands by the time your done) it works so well it is easy to overlook that. My milk lets down REALLY well with the Avent and sprays in all directions once you start to pump and I never saw that with the electric at all, I think it is the massaging petals design. Anyway I highly recommend this pump. I pump about 5 times per day so I use it a lot and for 3 babies that was all I used! I save about 1/2 of the milk I pump for the freezer for future feedings while he is still small and his milk intake is fairly low. Since breastfeeding does not work for me I think this is the next best thing for us, so my kids still got their breastmilk for those first few months and I felt good about the efforts due to a good pump that was easy to use, cost effective, and gentle!! I am looking into the Avent Isis Duo and Uno models as well just because I love how the original Avent isis works!!
Customer Review: Not for a working mother Summary: 3 StarsI am yet to call customer service...but I must say this pump is a little tedious...I am not naturally patient so it's a little frustrating for me to get 1.5oz in 15 minutes....
Customer Review: tricky at first, but worth the practice Summary: 5 StarsI bought this pump after seeing the success a coworker had with the ISIS pump. I'm back to work full time and it has been working very well for me. I started pumping at about 3 weeks, and was very fustrated at first. It was tricky to figure out the timing and how much suction to use to get a good let down and milk flow. After a few calls to the Avent customer service line (who were wonderful, very helpful and patient), I was getting much better results. By the time I went back to work I had a very nice supply of milk in the freezer and was comfortable pumping at work.
Why I like it - 1) it's discrete, you can pump anywhere without the noise of an electic pump and the black case looks like any other professional bag a woman would carry 2) it's portable, It's small and light to carry around - even with a few bottles of milk. 3) it's easy - not only to pump with but assembly and cleaning are a breeze. I know a few reviews state that there are too many parts and it's hard to put together, but I can do it in 15 seconds flat 4) it's comfortable - I think any breastpump may be awkward to use at first, but compared to an electric pump I tried my nipples and breasts were much more comfortable with the ISIS pump
I think for the price, you can't beat it. Also the realm of accessories available is impressive. Avent has thought of every possible need you may have.
Customer Review: Put the $60 towards an electric pump! Summary: 2 StarsIf you are only going to be pumping once in a blue moon, then this is a great pump for you. I found it to be an incredible nusance, so I borrowed a friend's Medela electric pump. Never used this Back to Work pump more than twice after using hers! Why spend a longer amount of time pumping that you have to (and yes it does take longer even though the manual says their stats say otherwise). With our next child, I will definitely be buying electric!
