Baby Products Reviews of Philips AVENT Manual breast pump Out and about set

Customer Review: Great for part time pumping
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this pump about 6 weeks after my son was born and I love it. He's 5 months old now and I have used it while working since he was 3 months old without any problems. I have to pump in the ladies room where I work, but this pump is so quiet that no one knows what I'm doing. I work 10 hour shifts, so I pump quite a bit, but this pump is so easy to use that I don't have the hand/wrist pain that I've had with other manual pumps.
Overall, the bag is stylish and discreet, the bottles are fabulous (no nipple confusion problems) and I have not had any problems with any part of it. The only thing I would suggest to someone looking to purchase one of these is to acquire additional ice packs if you can't keep your milk in the fridge. I had to buy two more solid ice packs to keep my milk cold all day. Otherwise, I have no complaints. Excellent product and service.

Customer Review: Awesome pump--even for a full-time working mom
Summary: 5 Stars

I LOVE my Avent pump. Even though I knew I would be returning to work when my son was just 6 weeks old, I was reluctant to spend the money on an expensive electric pump until I knew if breastfeeding would be right for us. Now, my son is almost 6 months old and I'm still using my manual pump. I take 2 15-minute breaks each day and find that I can easily keep up with my son's milk needs. On the days that I have trouble getting my milk to flow, I find that it has much more to do with my stress level than the pump's efficieny. (On those nights, I nurse on one side while I pump on the other.) I would definitely recommend this pump as a great value for the price.

Customer Review: B-size beware!
Summary: 3 Stars

If you are small busted, read this! I am a size B post-pregnancy. After 4-5 days, the massaging pad blistered my skin on the areola. After calling Avent and taking a week off, I now use it without the massaging pad. I also went from 2 oz per side to 3-4 oz per side. I am a stay-at-home mom, and pump one side every morning to have some milk on hand. Listen to your Dr and friends and use an electric if going back to work.

Also, this is not "whisper quiet". The handle sqeaks! Avent even sent me a replacement handle, but no improvement.

Customer Review: Great for occasional use, bad for work!
Summary: 5 Stars

It's a great manual pump, but it's just a manual pump after all. Manually pumping both breasts one at a time takes more than twice as long as double electric pumping to get the same amounts of milk. It would be impossible for me to keep pumping at work if I had to take that much time out of every work day. However I do keep this pump in my desk drawer for emergencies (like the time I forgot my other pump at home) or for out-of-office meetings (because it's small and discrete). It's also great for occasional home use or for women who need to leave the house with a pump every once in a while. I'm giving it 4 stars because I don't think it should be advertized for use at a full time job.

Customer Review: Awesome product
Summary: 5 Stars

I hadn't been compelled to write a review on this item, since so many mothers feel the way I do about this product -- until today!

Today at work, I had to flip a coin for access to the only quiet "pumping" spot in the building. The girl ahead of me took 20 minutes to pump with her electric pump, which she had to plug in to the wall, as she sat in the same ol' boring spot she's been using for 6 months. She can only get 6 ounces in 20 minutes, and her baby is way older than mine. I had the option of going to a bathroom stall (last resort), where I pumped 5 ounces in 10 minutes. I was done before her, and was back at my desk in no time! I forgot the cooler and ice packs at home, but no worries -- the bottles are durable and are virtually spill proof (I've *never* had a spill).

The first time I used the pump, I had no suction - but my husband of all people fixed it by repositioning the star. I accidentally melted my first pump and set the kitchen on fire when I was trying to sterilize it (soon after, I purchased the microwave sterilizer!). The only other problem I had was carelessness on my part when loading my pump in the dishwasher. A quick call to customer service, and I had the problem solved at a fraction of what it would have cost to replace the pump.

I have bought a second pump to keep at the office, I would *never* use an electric pump after having such success with this product. I guess I'm a creature of habit -- but also drawn to great quality at an affordable price. This is the way to go, for sure!
