Customer Review: Perfect if you don't need to pump all day every day
Summary: 5 Stars

What I absolutely love about this set is the lovely over-the-shoulder carrying case that comes with this set. I have walked through my office, through stores, gone home on the train...all with this over my shoulder and never once had the thought, "Hmm, I wonder if all these people are looking at my breast pump?" I mean, I tell my coworkers when I have to "go take care of business" but there's really only so much visual reminder I feel they need to have about what I'm doing.

The pump itself is very easy to use. Every once in a while I put the small white plastic valve in the wrong way up. I spend ten seconds wondering why I can't get any suction at all, and then I remember what I've probably done, unscrew the proper parts, fix it and it's fine. A very quick fix. Mind you, the instruction manual made it perfectly clear that you need to have the valve in correctly, but my brain just doesn't stay on top of the details every now and then.

I think that if you needed to do a lot of pumping on a daily basis, you're best bet is still a double electric. This is what I am told by a friend (who pumped while her newborn had a six week stay in the hospital immediately after delivery). But for my situation, at work three days a week for about twelve hours at a time, the Avent Isis set has been just the thing.

Customer Review: I've been very successful with AVENT products!
Summary: 5 Stars

I am a first time mom to a newborn who has problems latching on when I try to breastfeed, mainly because he has a tongue thrust. I resorted to pumping to help maintain my milk supply and continue giving my son the benefits of breast milk. This back to work set is definitely worth the price! I also have a Medela Pump In Style and both products work just about the same, although the Avent Isis is definitely quieter. I can express the same amount of milk as I would using the Medela Pump In Style - usually about 4-6 oz. in 5-8 minutes. The set packs into a discreet "lunch bag," so you can feel comfortable taking it to work and keeping your milk cold thanks to the freezer paks. I also like the fact that you can actually see the milk spray into the funnel. I think the secret to this successful product are the petals that help to stimulate the areola when you pump - very similar to your baby on the breast (this also helps maintain milk supply). Although I wouldn't recommend this product for daily/constant use - I know most moms will get frustrated at having to use a manual pump and of course dual pumping is always better, (the Medela Pump In Style or other hospital grade pump is recommended for that) I have been successful using the Avent Isis for every feeding. I am so grateful to Avent for all their products!

Customer Review: This is the BEST pump!!!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I recently had my first baby and my milk took a while to come in. The lactation specialist suggested I buy a hospital grade pump to use between feedings in order to get my milk supply up. I bought the pump and used it daily for almost 2 months. While it worked, I was never able to get more than 1-2 oz. of milk out of each breast and pumped for 15 minutes per side. I am going back to work soon and knew I wouldn't be comfortable bringing in an electric pump- my office doesn't have a place for me to go, so I have to use the small restroom. I decided to get a manual pump and started reading all the reviews for the Avent Isis. Because of the positive feedback, I bought this pump and absolutely love it. It was a little tricky to put together the first time, but now it is a breeze. With the Isis, I am pumping out 3-4 oz per breast in minutes and can finally start to freeze excess milk. I like being able to control the pressure and speed while pumping and my wrists do not get sore at all. It is quiet, light and easy to clean. This pump allows me to get almost double the amount of milk in a third of the time. As far as parts cracking, my pump came with extra parts and I am careful not to tighten it too tight. This pump is proof that you don't always have to spend more for a superior product!

Customer Review: prefer electrical pump
Summary: 3 Stars

I originally purchased this pump because I am only planning on nursing for 6-8 weeks and thought this pump would be ideal. The price was right and the reviews were good. After using it only 3-4 times, I realized that it just wasn't what I wanted. After nursing my baby every 2-3 hours, I just didn't have the energy to manually pump. It took me appoximately 15 minutes to get 1 oz. My baby eats about 3-4 ozs. per feeding, so to get a full feeding out of the pump, I would have to pump for 1 hr. No thank you. So what I am now doing is renting a Medela pump from a company called Motherly Expressions (or you can check with your hospital). It is [$$$] per month. Since I am still nursing, they only suggest I pump once a day (morning is best), and once I decide to swith to bottle exclusively, then I can pump every 3 hours. This pump takes 10-15 minutes, and you are done! Easy. So, needless to say, my Avent pump is in the closet. Nothing really wrong with it, I just found something that is much more convenient for me. And since I do not plan on breastfeeding for more than a couple of months, the cost of the rental is more effective than purchasing the electrical pump. And the time you save also makes it worth it! More time for mommy to catch up on some lost sleep!! :)

Customer Review: Love it, but one drawback
Summary: 4 Stars

I love this pump! It is so easy and works really, really well. I went back to work for a couple of weeks and was able to carry everything in the little cooler case - it looked like it could have been a lunch box, so it's very discreet. I even took it with me to a wedding and pumped in the bathroom - no noise, so no one wondered what the heck I was doing. It is pretty fast, too. A drawback - there is a plastic "neck" that connects the "horn" to the bottle - I have cracked 2 of them in the 2.5 months I've had it, just through regular use. The good news is that Avent replaced it for free the first time, no questions asked (and the pump still works, even with it cracked, but if it cracks too much, it won't stay connected to the horn). I haven't tried to get the second one replaced yet, but I don't anticipate any problems. I have since bought a Medela electric "Pump in Style" (it is faster and has less parts to clean), but I will still take this one places if I'm not sure I'll have access to an electrical outlet. UPDATE: I was able to get the replacement part again, free of charge, and absolutely no problems. Great service - I will use Avent for my next child, too! And, I am not totally convinced that the Medela is any faster, so for the difference in cost, go with the Isis!
