Customer Review: Great for occassional use!
Summary: 4 Stars

I registered for the Isis Back-To-Work Breast Pump Set after reading good reviews. I knew I would have to return to work six weeks after my baby was born but wanted to continue breastfeeding for at least a year. Pumping was the ideal solution but I didn't see the need to buy an expensive pump if a less pricey one could do the same job. The Isis didn't disappoint me. It is easy to use and not at all uncomfortable. The bag is roomy enough for me to carry four 4 oz. containers and the pump.

However, after three weeks of pumping four times a day five days a week, I realized the pump wasn't doing the job I really needed it to do. First of all, since it is a single pump, I would lose a lot of milk from the breast I wasn't pumping after initial let-down. I felt like I was wasting my milk. And, secondly, it would take me at least 20 minutes to pump (getting, at most, 3-4 oz. total) and clean up. I needed something quicker since my break times at work are limited. So I gave in and purchased the Medela Pump-in-Style Advance.

Now, while I prefer the Pump-in-Style for work, the Isis does an awesome job for occasional use and for when I don't need to pump larger quantities of milk. I still think this product deserves four stars because it is a good quality pump . I just wish I had found it more suitable for my pumping needs. I would highly recommend it to anyone who doesn't plan on frequent pumping and doesn't mind pumping only one breast at a time. Plus the containers and the bag are very useful.

Customer Review: Not for frequent pumpers!

After reading the many, many positive reviews on this product, I registered for it. The BIG mistake that I made was that this was the only breastpump that I purchased. My daughter and I had many problems with breastfeeding and pumping initially and I ended up having to spend 5 sessions with a lactation consultant. Her advice to me (to keep my diminishing milk supply up) was to RUN to the nearest baby store and purchase the Medela Pump In Style breastpump. She stated that while the Avent pump is good for moms who may need to pump OCCASIONALLY, it is neither adequate for new moms with feeding problems nor for moms who will be returning to work and will need to pump at least once a day.

I immediately took her advice and ran out and purchased the Medela pump. While I still have my Avent pump and have used it a few times when I didn't want to carry the bulkier Medela pump around, I have found the Medela pump to be SO MUCH EASIER and FASTER (you can pump both breasts at the same time - it only takes 10 minutes to pump 8-10 oz. of milk. PLUS, no sore wrists from manual pumping)!! Since I have to pump once a day now and will have to pump three times a day when I return to work, I cannot imagine having to use the Avent pump this frequently.

So...to all you working OR frequently pumping moms out there....the Avent manual pump is NOT for you. While I still recommend purchasing it to have for the occasional use (when a quiet or small pump is desired), make sure you also have the Medela Pump in Style!!

Customer Review: Impressed First Time Mom!
Summary: 5 Stars

I am very pleased with this pump! After reading all of the reviews I decided to pick this one and I am glad I did. I have never used one before and it does take some getting used to at first and a little awkward, but I think using any pump would be. Once I got the hang of it (which didn't take long), I have really enjoyed using it. It was also a little intimidating with all the parts and peices there are but just read all the instructions before using it and before you know it, it becomes second nature taking it apart, washing it and putting it back together. I use it in the mornings when I am really full (I've noticed that if you use it when you are really full it goes alot faster) and it takes about 20 minutes to get about 4-5oz. But my daughter is now 21/2 months old so my supply has increased. When I first started pumping I would get about 2oz in that time, which was fine cause thats all she needed at a feeding. I really like the fact that you can pump right into the bottle, store the bottle, and then heat it put on a nipple and use the bottle. Its very convenient. I am a stay at home mom, but I am very glad that I got this particular set because its easy to transport the bottles and keep them cool. Also if I do need to pump while I am out it also comes in handy. Plus nobody knows what it is, its a very nice bag and looks just like a purse. I would highly reccommend this set to anyone(even if you don't work), it comes in really handy and as I said before easy to use and very effective.

Customer Review: Great for ocassional use but...
Summary: 3 Stars

This pump is great if you are going to be away from your baby for a short while and you need to pump. You can get a good amount of milk almost as much as an electric medela pump. However be prepared for some serious forearm workout! I used this when I was on my maternity leave and needed someone to watch my son for a few hours while I went to the grocery store etc.. Perfect. BUT when I went back to work it was more frusterating than useful. It would take me ten plus minutes to milk each side and after the clean up (it leaked a little bit) I spent about a half hour total for one session. I am commited to breastfeeding even though I work full time. I finally realized if this was going to work I'd either need to rent or buy an electric medela pump ( WIC will pay for it ). It was such a great decision because now I can pump both sides in ten minutes flat!!! Somtimes less! And the pump actually pays for itself because of all the time I'm saving on my "pumping breaks" please keep this in mind while looking for a method of expressing your milk. After reading all the reviews I thought this manual one would work just as good as an electric. And it's just not the case. Like I said great for part time pumping, frusterating for full timers. Also try not to pump your breasts in the bathroom. There out to be a law that states employers must provide you with a sanitary place to pump your milk. I'll look into it...

Customer Review: This Pump was the Only one that worked at all for Me
Summary: 4 Stars

After having my daughter last January I purchased this pump at the drugstore on the way home from the hospital (even though I had rented the brand new Medela electric double pump from the hospital) I was nervous after unsuccessfully being able to nurse my son a year and a half prior, I was desperate for a sure solution. I had it put together during the car ride home without any instructions and tried it out (as my husband laughed) desparation causes funny things like this to happen. Right away it began filling with milk, almost effortlessly. I found it easier to use than the 2 different style hospital grade pumps that I had rented for hundreds of $$$ (between both kids) Much easier to clean as well. I will agree that after a few weeks though I had trouble (as other reviewers have stated) with my milk being sucked back some and collecting between the silicon comfort cover and the cone of the pump causing it and me to get kinda messy & sticky. Thinking I was through having any more children, I passed this pump along to my best friend (with all new parts of course) she however was not a fan of it what so ever and prefers electric too if having to pump. I will be having my 3rd child in July 2006 and plan to purchase this system again, possibly 2. Over all I am really pleased and highly reccomend it to everyone. It's no more of a hassle than the electric pumps and to me is much better!
