Baby Products Reviews of Philips AVENT Isis On The Go SetCustomer Review: A very good pump Summary: 4 Stars
I am a stay-at-home mom who produced an overabundance of milk and had to pump every day for a while (my baby is one now and we are in the process of weaning so I don't need it anymore). I usually pumped about 6 ounces in about 10 minutes. It is very easy to use, but after a while my wrist would get tired and I'd have to switch hands! I bought the manual pump because it was significantly less expensive and I'd heard good things about it. I did like it, but sterilizing after each use got to be a pain - especially if I pumped more than twice a day. At first, it seemed complicated to put back together, but after a short while there was nothing to it - my husband was just as able to do it as I was.I, too, had the neck crack on me. I went and bought another one, instead of calling Avent (big mistake!). The next one cracked too, so I called Avent. They sent me two of the bodies and two of the necks (since I had had problems with both) and advised using distilled water to sterilize with instead of tap water. Apparently some hard water and some types of water softeners can adversely affect the product, according to the representative. Any time I called Avent they were very helpful. They even sent me a full bottle of their body wash to help make up for my expense and inconvenience! It was nice to be able to pump in the car on long road trips - I could pump in order for my baby to have a bottle and not have to worry about finding a place to plug the pump in or about the batteries going dead! Plus, the carrying case is small and discreet and I took it anywhere we went for overnight or longer (I learned this after my first bout of mastitis on the road!).
Customer Review: This is a fantastic pump! Summary: 5 Stars
I breastfed my son for 6 months. I started giving him a bottle around 2 weeks old. People kept telling me not to do that because he would get confused. But with the Avent system, I had no problems. The nipples are designed to control the flow of the milk, so if you are breastfeeding and bottlefeeding, the baby will respond to both. The milk comes out slower than other bottles, so the baby still has to work for it, like it does on the breast. Plus, the base of the nipples is larger, making the baby open their mouth wider to latch on to it...just like in breastfeeding. No confusion!! I found the pump to be awesome. I had had trouble producing milk into the pump, as long as I drank enough fluids during the day. I used to take it in the car with me and my record was pumping 7 oz of milk in 7 mins. That's an ounce a minute! I never had any trouble pumping at least 5 oz at any given time. I've recommended this system to many of my friends and I recommend it to YOU also. I like the fact you can pump right into the liners and then freeze them as soon as you're finished pumping. I never boiled the nipples or heated the bottles on the stove. I alwasys washed them in hot water and would take a bottle out of the fridge and run it under hot water. This was warm enough for him to drink it. ONce my son was over 6 months old, I switched to the larger 9oz bottles that don't have liners and we used those with formula. These nipples have 4 holes in the top for faster flow, as the baby can take more milk then. I completely love this system.
Customer Review: Im so glad I bought the ISIS Here's why: Summary: 5 Stars
1)It's a manual pump and doesn't make the noise an electric one would. The noise wouldn't make a difference to me now but in the beginning I was very self conscious. 2)The non see through and nondescript drawstring bag is great for the fridge at work and contains spills in the tote should one of my bags leak. 3)It is completely compatible with the Avent bottles. 4)The horn cracked from over tightening the adapter to the horn. I found if I didn't over tighten the pump came loose very easily and was displeased with this aspect of the pump. Avent sent out replacement parts to me, no questions asked, in minutes at no cost to me. The new part they sent me is all one piece so this is no longer a concern! 5)Spare parts come with it for many of the peices. 6)I can get as much as 9 ounces in 10 minutes. 7)The insulated black tote case is discrete and could even be used later as a lunch bag-seriously. 8)Easy to clean. Even fits in the Avent microwave sterilizer(Love it!). 9)The price was right compared to an electric pump. The first time I tried to put it together I was lost. But then I read the directions(how novel) and I was an expert in no time. The ice packs that come with it don't last very long. If you need them for more than an hour or so I would recommend using something else(like the free ones they gave me at the hospital with a diaper bag). The biggest thing to remember is you have to learn how to pump. It took me a couple of times before I got a significant amount of milk. I had to learn what worked for me.
Customer Review: Save $$ over electric pumps Summary: 5 Stars
My baby was in the NICU right after birth for 5 days and I needed to pump exclusively to get my milk established. They provided me with a deluxe electric double pump which worked well. I was told my supply couldn't be established/maintained with my manual pump at home, so I went home with a hospital rental while my baby stayed in the hospital. When it was time for him to come home, I contemplated whether or not to keep renting the electric pump; I had received this ISIS pump as a shower gift and I thought I'd try it before deciding what to do. Well, I was shocked how well this pump worked. It is so comfortable to use and doesn't tire your hand pumping. In the same time it took me to double pump (15 minutes) I got the same amount of milk using the manual one breast at a time! I ended up returning the electric pump and didn't at all feel uneasy about maintaining milk supply. This pump works as well, if not better than the electric pump and costs so much less!! This is my 4th child, I've tried other manual pumps as well as battery operated ones in the past, but none compare to this pump. My only qualm about this system is that the nipple rings and nipples for feeding are substantially bigger than the standard nipples/size for bottles, so you are committed to using only their brand with their bottles (the bottles are nicely shaped and easy to hold). My baby had a hard time breast feeding, so we had to bottle feed for a while and he couldn't get the hang of their bottle nipple so I had to pour off my milk into another type of bottle system to feed him.
Customer Review: Awesome product Summary: 5 Stars
I hadn't been compelled to write a review on this item, since so many mothers feel the way I do about this product -- until today!
Today at work, I had to flip a coin for access to the only quiet "pumping" spot in the building. The girl ahead of me took 20 minutes to pump with her electric pump, which she had to plug in to the wall, as she sat in the same ol' boring spot she's been using for 6 months. She can only get 6 ounces in 20 minutes, and her baby is way older than mine. I had the option of going to a bathroom stall (last resort), where I pumped 5 ounces in 10 minutes. I was done before her, and was back at my desk in no time! I forgot the cooler and ice packs at home, but no worries -- the bottles are durable and are virtually spill proof (I've *never* had a spill).
The first time I used the pump, I had no suction - but my husband of all people fixed it by repositioning the star. I accidentally melted my first pump and set the kitchen on fire when I was trying to sterilize it (soon after, I purchased the microwave sterilizer!). The only other problem I had was carelessness on my part when loading my pump in the dishwasher. A quick call to customer service, and I had the problem solved at a fraction of what it would have cost to replace the pump.
I have bought a second pump to keep at the office, I would *never* use an electric pump after having such success with this product. I guess I'm a creature of habit -- but also drawn to great quality at an affordable price. This is the way to go, for sure!
