Baby Products Reviews of Philips AVENT Isis On The Go SetCustomer Review: Crying over "spilled" milk Summary: 1 Stars
First of all, I should give you some advice that I wish I had BEFORE purchasing anything based off of reviews. Read all of the bad reviews to see what the main complaint is. Do not just go off of positive reviews!!
I'm a new mother to a 3 month old daughter. I read about every review on baby products that I could find. I wanted a pump for my 18 hour road trip and didn't have time to wait for a pump to be delivered to me. I went to Target and they only had 3 pumps. I decided on the Avent Isis Manual because of all the rave reviews I had read. The only electric pump at the store was Evenflo and I've heard such bad things about that brand.
I tried the pump before my road trip (smart). I lost 2 hours of sleep because I felt like I was doing something wrong. The manual says that you can get 2-4 oz in 10 minutes. Uh, it took me about an hour to get close to 4 oz. I tried the pump several times, but just became frustrated and depressed. My baby was so upset after I'd use the pump and refused to eat for more than 5 minutes. I read another review explaining that her baby would be fussy because her milk was backed up and would flow too quickly. I believe that is what was happening to me.
I know that I produce enough milk. When I express manually (without the pump), it sprays out. My breasts are very large and I do not know if that is a problem with this pump. I am at least a 40 DD. I just purchased the Ameda Purely Yours Double Electric Pump. I will let you know how I like that.
In short, if you do not have great patience, do not purchase this pump. If you have very large breasts, it is not for you. Be careful when purchasing a pump based on other reviews as you cannot return hygiene items. Please talk to friends and ask what they personally used. I wish I had. My cousins and friends used Playtex (sold at Wal-Mart) and they loved it! I was turned off to the Playtex because it seemed too cheap.
Customer Review: No need to spend $$$ on Medela's Pump-in-Style Summary: 5 Stars
Two of my friends used this one daily and recommended it to me. One of them went back to work and bought Medela just for pumping at work. I simply got this set to use both at home & work, and am I glad that I didn't need electric pump to express milk quickly - with ISIS, I can get 1 oz foremilk in less than a minute! Of course it takes a little longer for hindmilk because the pressure from the breast is less by then. On average it takes less than 10 minutes to pump 4-5 oz.I was back to work 2 weeks ago & have been using it twice a day. Before this I used it 1-2 times a day to pump a ounce or so foremilk for 6 weeks, and it works very well for me. All the parts are sturdy. You just have to make sure that you don't turn the connecting "neck" while pumping, else you'll drop the bottle! The numerous parts are a little daunting to assemble in the beginning, but you'll be an expert in no time. Just be careful with the little white valve when washing the parts, without it the pump won't work. But the kit does have extra valves. The insulated carrying bag is attractive and discrete. There's even a non-transparent drawstring pouch for storing breastmilk-filled bottles in the common fridge at work where everyone keeps their lunches! The included bottles, nipples etc represent extra values. I'm extrememly pleased with this Avent product and have also bought Avent Microwave Express Sterilizer in which the ISIS pump parts can be sterilzed. Jan 3,2003: I've been working full time and nursing for the past 4.5 months using Isis exclusively. I'm so happy to report that it's been working great for me without any problems at all. My now 6.5 month old daughter is at a healthy 65 percentile.
Customer Review: Not what it's cracked up to be... Summary: 1 Stars
This product is not as great as some of the reviews make it out to be. The reviews all said that it is suppose to be just as good as an electric however I found the opposite. I am a new mom and have read up on all the breastpumps and products out there. I found the pump very easy to assemble and clean however it is very hard to achieve adequate let-down and it is very had to use when feeding your baby at the same time (which is what they suggest). I tried to pump while feeding my baby and while I was near my baby but not feeding at the same time. I had difficulty trying to hold my newborn and position her on the breast and handpump at the same time. This took a lot of coordination and focus which took away from focusing on nursing my baby at the same time. I also found it very hard to work the handle and sit at the right level so that the milk would go down into the container and not run out (you have to lean over a little to prevent leaking). When I tried it without feeding the baby simultaneously I could not achieve adequate let down.
The other down side to this is that it made my nipples very sore for about half a day after pumping and I only pumped about 1 or 2 a week for the first three months since I stayed home. I made sure to follow all directions and still had difficulty.
My advice is to spend the money even if your not going back to work full or even part-time because it will save you time and hassle. I bought a Medela Pump in Style Advanced and I love it. I only work about 15-25 hours a week and it takes me 15-20 minutes to set-up, pump and clean-up afterwards. I highly recommend spending the money on the electric pump...you'll be glad you did.
Customer Review: Loved it loved it.. 5+ stars Summary: 5 Stars
This is the best breast pump I have tried. It is totally comfortable and so affordable. I was using a Medela electric pump, (which I rented the actual pump and spent the $105 to get the pieces to it). I decided to buy the Gerber pump, oh my, thought my nipple was coming off. The Medela hand pump made my nipples bleed. The electric wasn't so bad but the expense was more that I could afford. A friend was so thrilled with her Isis that she bought me one. She new I had been having problems producing milk and this was a miracle. I saw so many lactation specialist that weren't so much help. When I got this breast pump it was very easy to use. I produced much more milk and was able to breast feed without sore breasts. It isn't suppose to be a painful experience it is suppose to be a bonding experience. (Bonding with the baby not the pump) I felt like a cow hooked up to the electric pump all of the time and this pump is so small and discreet you can take it anywhere, plus the breast milk flows out so easily with this it takes no time to finish. The best part is it is so quiet you can pump in the restroom and no one is any wiser. We all know the breast feeding is best but if you are having problems I recommend this pump. It is so much more natural and helps you produce more milk for the baby. I know that the Avent people are great and whatever problems you have with the product they will replace it no questions asked. The pump disassembles easily and is no problem to wash and sanitize. This kit comes with everything you will need plus more. I love the fact that the bottles are interchangable to sippy cups and my little girl was off her bottle at 10 months!
Customer Review: Not a back to work set Summary: 2 Stars
After lots of research, I bought this pump thinking that I would really be able to use this to express milk for my baby. The first couple of months I used it, it worked beautifully. However, after three months, I still hadn't gone back to work. I was just using the pump to leave the baby with my Mom for a couple of hours!!! With minimal usage the neck started to show cracks. I had read reviews regarding this problem but figured that the other mothers just hadn't taken very good care of their pump. I had gone way out of my way to handle it extremely delicately. I even bought their sterilizer (which I still love), especially for the pump.I did call Avent and they did replace the part, however I have noticed that the new part is also splitting. To make matters worse, the bottles had started to unscrew from the neck and I would have to keep twisting the ring constantly to keep them in place and I have also noticed less suction than before. This made pumping a very frustrating event.![.] The sad fact is that it is a really good pump when it works but it has a very short life, the plastic is so cheap, and it is extremely frustrating. Had I depended on the product to feed my baby while I was at work, we might have stopped breastfeeding. I only work 4 hours, so I am separated from my baby for maybe 4 1/2 hours, but I still wouldnt have trusted this pumnp to be used on a daily basis. This is the pump for you only if you are a stay at home mom that leaves baby in someone else's care every once in a while. As for me, I have already purchsed the Medela pump in style and it has been the best 200 some dollars I have spent on baby's health.
