Baby Products Reviews of Philips AVENT Isis On The Go SetCustomer Review: I don't get all the hooplah! Summary: 1 Stars
This was a waste of $60 for me personally. I ended up having to get the Pump in Style from Medela. First of all, I had rented a pump from the hospital which everyone should do the first month anyway because you never know how nursing will work out for you. I've had so many friends quit. I kept at it, but I wouldn't have if left with this useless pump. It took me 40 minutes to pump what I could get 10 with my Medela. When you work, that's an issue. I don't think I could have told my boss I'd be unavailable for an hour and twenty every day. Plus, the milk for your baby is based on supply and demand so I don't think you could keep up your supply very easily with this as I was never able to get as much out as with the Medela. You could also do both sides at once with the Pump in Style which is a big deal when you do it for a year. Maybe if you stayed at home and left once a month briefly this pump could be suitable for you, but not for a mom going back to work. I wish I could say something better, but maybe you won't waste your money like I did. Remember, you can't return these!
Customer Review: Surpassed my expectations! Summary: 5 Stars
I tried several "NEW" electric/battery designs before I found this manual set. It is the best! I was worried about going back to work and having to pump every 2-3 hours and make so much noise in the restroom. Yet I was also concerned about the length of time I thought a manual pump would take. This back-to-work set was the answer to both of those concerns! I made sure my milk supply was well established (it only took three weeks for me before I started pumping). I was able to pump 4-6 oz in about 5 minutes and up to 9+ in under 10 minutes (and absolutely silently!) The washable breast pads were great for night, but I used super thin ones during the day. The pump is easy and fast to assemble, and easy to clean. I stored the bottles right at my desk and the ice packs kept them cold all afternoon. And now that I am not nursing anymore, the two 4 ounce bottles and two 9 ounce bottles that are included with the set are always in use for his formula. He won't drink from any other nipple! And the carry case - I use that for a lunch tote with the ice packs! A GREAT value!!!
Customer Review: If you want to continue breastmilk, THIS I would recommend Summary: 5 Stars
Due to some problems I am not able to breastfeed. But I wanted my son to have the benefits of breastmilk. I've been renting the Lactina, hospital grade pump and have been using that for a month, now. Going back to work and pumping as often as I need to (every feeding) I was looking at spending close to $300 on a double breast pump. But I've been using the Avent pump and LOVE it. In LESS time than a hospital grade pump I can empty both breasts and store them easily in the little case. The petals on the funnel stimulate more parts of the areola, I think. You can SEE that more milk is being expressed than with the hospital grade pump. And it's easy and onehanded as opposed to many other manual two handed, one breast pumps. I was so worried that we'd have to switch the baby to formula when I went back to work but now we won't!!! Not to mention that where I work it's not so convenient to have both breasts exposed for a double pump when you can be more discreet with the Isis pump. (My work has a tendency to have people let themselves into locked offices). I'd definitely recommend it.
Customer Review: Good for occassional expression Summary: 3 Stars
I bought this breast pump before I had my baby and I wish I had waited. My baby was born premature so I was offered a hospital-grade electronic double pump to use in the hospital. At first, I felt like a cow in a dairy farm, but when I went home and used my manual Avent pump, I started missing that electronic pump.
This set is great, don't get me wrong; it has everything you need to start with (although the bottles aren't interchangeable with the other variety of bottle nipples I had at home). And the bag is nice enough to be mistaken for a purse. It will also keep the bottles or expressed milk cold for hours.
Overall, I would recommend this pump to those that need to express milk only OCCASSIONALLY or else your arms and hands will get quite the work out. The key to let down is relaxation and you just can't do that with a manual pump, especially if you're doing it hour after hour and on sore nipples! I would recommend getting an electric pump, particularly hospital grade. Even better: most insurance carriers cover it.
Customer Review: LOVE. LOVE, LOVE THIS PUMP!! Summary: 5 Stars
I am in love with this pump - I just started back to work after a 12 week maternity leave and was in need of a good breast pump to continue nursing my daughter. I couldn't decide whether to bite the bullet and purchase a Medela Pump in Style or this one. I have had an electric pump in the past (First Years Dual Pump) and really didn't care for it - it was so noisy, at times wouldn't have great suction, as ws awkward to handle while breastfeeding my baby on one side. I felt like I was constantly prisoner to the electric outlet sine I couldn't move anywhere since it was so comlicated to get everything together.
This pump was quiet, fast (8 ounces in under 15 minutes from both breasts) and needed no electric outlet. At first I was afraid my hand would get sore, but no problem at all. I had better luck w/out the petal cushion - this just didn't work for me, and I've never had a problem stimulating letdown without it.
I am so glad I didn't purchase a PIS, I also love the bottles, they're the only kind my baby will use!
