Baby Products Reviews of Philips AVENT Isis On The Go SetCustomer Review: Disappointed Summary: 2 Stars
The Avent system was strongly recommended for use by friends and family members alike so when the time came, the Back-To-Work Breast Pump Set is what I went with. I found it disappointing in a couple of areas. The valve continuously popped out during pump sessions which was frustrating (frustration not being conducive to relaxation and let-down), and the silicone petal piece did not form a tight seal which also slowed things down a number of times during each session. Further, it would take me about a half to three quarters of an hour to pump three, POSSIBLY four ounces, by which time my carpal tunnel syndrome was totally aggrevated and I was tempted to chuck the whole thing. It was helpful when I had mastitis or when I became engorged (such as at work, or when baby was sleeping better) and I was grateful for the relief, but I wish it had been more effective and less of a hassle to assemble, keep assembled, and clean. Expecting our second child, I am now seeking an electric pump; there is no way I want to go the same route again with this system. (By the way, though, the Avent bottles are great.)
Customer Review: Hard to clean and noisy!!! Go with the Medela Harmony!! Summary: 2 Stars
I had been using this pump for a couple months. It worked pretty well - I have a fast let-down so I could get a few ounces in only a few minutes. However, it was very squeaky and would keep my husband up at night while I was pumping. Also it was not very ergonomical and pretty messy. (The way it's put together, milk collects under the rubber shield and drips out the bottom.) We also had problems with the bottles leaking. There are a lot of parts to clean too.
The last straw was when I was cleaning it, and putting it back together, one of the rubber seals wouldn't fit back on correctly. It didn't come with ANY directions for cleaning, assembly, or disassembly so I couldn't tell what I'd done wrong. And apparently, you can't get any spare parts for it. So I decided to try a different pump.
Thank goodness I did!! I bought the Medela Harmony manual pump and it is 1000% times better! It's quieter, came with very clear and thorough directions, is more comfortable, works just as well, and has far fewer parts! Definitely go with the Medela if you're looking for a hand pump!
Customer Review: Absolutely wonderful! 4 oz in 10 minutes! Summary: 5 Stars
This pump is amazing. Before we bought this pump, we got a lot of push to purchase the Medela pumps from the hospital. They are not only expensive, but the manual pumps are very noisy. They sound like you are inflating a tire! This pump, on the other hand, is completely quiet. It is great, especially if you plan on pumping when you return to work and have to use the office restroom. With the other pumps, you have people constantly asking what is that noise!? With this one, no one even notices. The only bad thing about this set are the freezer inserts that do not remain cold for over an hour or so. I purchased some higher quality freezer inserts at the supermarket. The carrying bag is VERY nice and looks just like a lunchbag, so it is very discreet. The pump is also great because you have the option of pumping directly into the Avent bottles or the Avent disposable bag system, so that's also very convenient. All in all, this is a great product - whether you're going to pump a lot or just a little. I've been able to do both successfully and quickly (4 oz in less than 10 minutes)!
Customer Review: Great pump, Great price Summary: 5 Stars
I started to use this pump 4 weeks after my daughter was born to get used to it and to get her used to a bottle. I went back to work for a couple days here and there 6 weeks after she was born and back to my 50 hours a week 3 months after she was born. This pump is so easy to use and it is all dishwasher friendly. It would only take me about 15 minutes to pump on my breaks and I could fill the bottles with no problem.
I would have given it a 4 1/2 stars if I could because is does squeek a little when you squeeze the handle and that is kind of embarrasing if you are in a public restroom. Also I would recommend you use a bigger ice pack then the ones provided, becuase they don't stay cold for very long. I don't have a fridge available to store the milk in while I am at work, so I would just put in ice packs that last longer and the milk was still cold by the time I got home. That was even in August in 80-90 degree weather for 10 hours a day.
I told my cousin who is now pregnant not to waste her money on the fancy battery opperated pumps to just use this one.
Customer Review: Excellent for low-volume pumpers Summary: 5 Stars
It is with great jealousy that I read other reviews about pumping 9 oz at a time -- the most I ever was able to get with any pump was 4 oz, and that was with the top of the line hospital grade double pump on a really good day. My usual output was about 2 oz at a time. (That's just with a pump, though -- my baby was perfectly happy, healthy, and well-fed and we nursed for a year, so do not fear, new pumpers! It can be done!) After wrestling with a Medela for months, I finally tried the Isis and guess what? In about a quarter of the time (even doing one side at a time instead of double pumping) I was getting only about 1/2 an ounce less than with the Medela. And because of the minimal set up time, clean up time, and far greater portability I was able to pump more often and keep my supply up much more effectively. I've read other reviews that say that these pumps break: I never had that happen, but you could replace this three times over and still pay less than the Medela. If you are a 9-ouncer, you might be better off with a double pump, but for us 2 ouncers, this is just great!
