Customer Review: Good but hard on the hands for new moms
Summary: 3 Stars

I purchased the Isis Back to work breast pump about 3 days after giving birth because my daughter wouldn't latch on and my breasts were engorged. She also had difficulty staying awake long enough during the feedings. Once the initial stage of engorgement passed, I was able to use the pump regularly. I tried on my own for awhile and liked the fact that I can control it's speed and pressure, so there's less pain. However, using it frequently had its weaknesses. My hands, having gone through the repetitious motion of squeezing the handle, had begun to ache in the joints. The aches were similar to what one would feel with a bodyache during the flu season. So, I asked my husband to pump for me but he wasn't able to do so at a pressure level that I was comfortable with. I ended up having blisters and cracks, making pumping even more unbearable. I recommend this product to those moms who pump "once in a while." If you're going back to work, you should purchase a fast, double-breast electric pump. I purchased the Medela pump and it's fast, painless and very easy to clean and use. And it causes no pain or discomfort on my nipples unlike the Isis breast pump.

Customer Review: Don't Fret About Manual. THIS IS BETTER THAN MADELA.
Summary: 5 Stars

After having my daughter I spent around $300 on a Madela pump in style. I was never able to pump over 2 oz which happened very rarely. Usually I barely covered the bottom of the container and, tough you're not supposed to, I was so desperate I sometimes spent 45 minutes trying to pump in order to leave the house for an appointment etc. I literally pumped till I bled. I rarely got to go out without the little one. If I did I had to leave little or no milk so my husband was stuck with a screaming baby and I had to rush back ASAP. It was horrible and I thought I just couldn't pump successfully. I thought it was me. After I had my son I tried again and the Madela pump burned out immediately. I didn't have a lot of money so, though concerned about the potential discomfort of using a manual pump, I bought the Isis. THANK GOD I DID!!! Not only is it simpler to use but it is much more comfortable. A couple weeks after having my baby I was able to pump 2 oz or more, no problem. It's fast and not a strain on my hands or my breasts. Very easy. I can not recommend this pump highly enough. Especially to those who may think they just can't pump sucessfully.

Customer Review: Dreamy!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I looooooove this pump. It is so easy to put together, use, and clean. I love the discreet carrying case. I love the little accessories that came with it. I love that I could just lay in bed, read a magazine, and pump my heart out while my husband and daughter slept next to me. The number of ounces I could do in a short time would vary because my flow varied. I once had a pumping emergency when I didn't have this one with me. I borrowed my sister's electric pump (don't remember what brand but it was awful) and after struggling forever just to get half an ounce or less, I finally threw the pump away and finished by hand--and I mean I literally used two fingers and a bowl! So electric is not always better! Being a manual, this one is so small and easy to carry, and I could just lock myself in the office at work an no one had a clue what I was doing. It's so quiet. For the people who can't get any milk with it, you're probably forgetting to put the tiny dime-sized white piece into the center of the pump. That's the key to getting suction. If you plan on pumping, or even just having a pump around in case of emergency, this is the one to get!!

Customer Review: Great Product for working moms
Summary: 5 Stars

I actually purchased a second one of these pumps because I was so satisfied with the first one. I did so because I do not have time or the resources to sterilize pump #1 at work, so I have a second for a second pumping session.

This pump is amazing - it works faster than the dual-pump medela lactina that I have at home. I can fill one of the 9 oz bottles in 10 minutes! The suction is all your control and the frequency of each pump is also all up to your own speed. It is easy to clean and very comfortable to use.

I once forgot the pedal insert that goes into the funnel and went to work. I was worried when I realized it later, but it still pumped super - quick and I had no problems!

I have used this pump at work, when visiting at other people's homes (discreetly of course) and on the run in the car (not while driving of course)! It is easy to use this pump discreetly! I've actually pumped in the car and simply attached the nipple to feed my hungry 4 mos old while still in his car seat!

I would highly recommed this pump to any breastfeeding mother!

Customer Review: Great pump set for occasional use
Summary: 4 Stars

I bought this set thinking it was a bit more than I needed, but I actually used everything in the set. The variety of bottles is great and they come with sealing lids, nipples and caps- very convenient! The cooling packs are effective and the carrying case IS discreet and lightweight. Now about the pump: I think it's great for pumping once or twice a week, but not daily. "Back to Work" is a bit of a misnomer for this pump because it's not really efficient enough or durable enough for frequent daily use.
The pump is very lightweight, silent, and very effective as manual pumps go, but even when you get good with it (it takes practice & patience at first), it's not as quick as a double-sided electric pump. I gave it only 4 stars because the pump also seemed very fragile. After only a month of light use, I had to utilize all the replacement parts included in the set.
All in all, if you need a pump for going back to work, consider a double-sided electric pump for quick and hard use. But if you only need to pump occasionally, are going on a trip, or just need a manual backup, I recommend the Avent Isis!
