Description of Philips AVENT Isis On The Go SetThe ISIS On The Go Breast Pump Set by Avent Includes everything mom needs to pump her milk away from home, safely store it, and bring it home to baby. Includes the revolutionary ISIS Breast Pump. The discreetly quiet and portable Isis Back to Work Breast Pump Set is a gentle, safe, and discreet way to express and store breast milk for later feedings. This set weighs less than a pound and includes an Isis handheld breast pump, an insulated shoulder bag (about the size of a lunch box); two 4-ounce and two 9-ounce Avent bottles with newborn nipples and silicone sealing lids; disposable breast pads; and two freezer packs. The Isis breast pump is a one-handed manual pump (no batteries or electrical hookups are required) with a silicone diaphragm and soft cushion "petals" that work together to mimic breastfeeding. The soft "petals" in the cushion send a message to the breast to stimulate a natural let-down reflex, and the silicone diaphragm creates a vacuum to help express more milk quickly and quietly. Many moms claim that this manual pump can express the same volume of milk in the same amount of time as the larger electric pumps. Dishwasher safe. --Deb Oroszlan
Baby Products Reviews of Philips AVENT Isis On The Go SetCustomer Review: Understanding breastfeeding will help... Summary: 3 Stars
Rating- 3-stars. I'd have given it 4-stars if the product package wasn't (in my opinion) kind of misleading.Occasional use `rating'- For the price, what you get and the functionality- I found it to be a fair deal. One would assume seeing the package & product description, that this is a pump for daily use (like at work). A woman in `business-type' attire, and the `On The Go Set' name can give the consumer this impression. On an independent `rating' chart that I saw somewhere (you know how first-time moms are inundated with reading material) stated that this pump is for occasional use. Avent should place this somewhere on the package considering the reviews I've read. Suction too strong- I found in this day and age that breastfeeding moms have more printed information and support, but not necessarily more knowledge. I'm amazed to read reviews that state that the suction `just wouldn't let go'. You can't just wildly pump and think that you're going to get milk. You can see after the `let-down' if milk is flowing. Never has my nipple been sucked down into the unit `too far', my common sense tells me to hold off on the pumping- it is sort of a `self-regulating' manual pumping process. Babies suck more efficiently than any appliance can. When you're looking for a `short-cut' time wise, I don't think expressing milk (particularly away from home) is that satisfying. I'm a stay at home mom, so I don't need to rely on expressing milk regularly. Though I initially built up a small supply in my freezer (in case of an emergency) with this pump, and it went well. When my milk came in- pumping helped empty my breast to ward off a clogged milk duct I had, due to engorgement. Read about breastfeeding- knowledge is power. If your hospital offers a lactation clinic- go. This will help you understand how breastfeeding works, & can help you `customize' your breastfeeding experience. Don't expect a pump to deliver milk without knowing what you are doing. (ie. massaging your breast, getting the milk flowing manually, trying to relax, keeping yourself properly hydrated, fed, and enough rest- don't laugh. Not getting enough rest & being stressed are the most common culprits of a low milk supply. What you eat contributes greatly. I recently took an `all-natural herbal' `medication' for an on-going sinus problem, & it temporarily almost dried-up my milk supply. Suction not adequate- there have been instances that I couldn't get the suction up to par. I found it to be easy enough to assemble. Yet, I had to re-check that the silicone parts were correctly on, going over the seal on the part that attaches to the pump handle with my finger. Yes, that's a pain to do at 3:30am, but it doesn't happen too often. I think if the parts are not completely dry, this could affect the seal, in turn, affecting the suction. Milk `backing-up'- Once the milk is flowing, some remains up in the pump. I just loosen the seal on the `diaphragm' part (the silicone part that rests against your breast), & this releases the milk into the bottle. You also must exercise care not to tip the pump too much when the bottle is attached because it becomes top heavy. I wish there was some kind of seal to prevent the milk from leaking out of the collection bottle so easily. I could recommend this pump for similar situations as my own.
