I wish I'd had this with my first child! I use them to collect the leaking milk while I am breastfeeding, usually close to 2oz. Don't get me wrong they do leak milk all over if I leak too much but they are comfortable & easy to use & clean. Much better than holding a cup/bottle to catch the extra milk - MUCH more descrete & less laundry than all the nursing pads I would be using. These make it very easy for me to put milk away for future use.Customer Review: Great for overactive letdown

If you're like me and have large breasts and overactive letdown, the shells can be used to collect breastmilk prior to feeding your child. Then your breasts aren't as "full" (helps relieve pressure) so your baby doesn't gag and choke and get sprayed from all the pressure when your breasts are overfilled. Also, while you're feeding on one breast, wear the shield on the other. This lets you collect milk for future use and doesn't waste it.Customer Review: Awesome product!

These shells work really well in early breastfeeding to occasionally protect sore nipples. They also work for increasing milk supply throughout the day without added pumping. I use them to collect milk on the opposite side during my nightly feedings, and have stored up a lot of milk that way. The only reason they got 4 stars is because they are kind of hard and sometimes feel kind of obvious under certain clothing.Customer Review: An OK product

I bought the Avent Breastshells because of my sore nipples, and a way to collect leaking milk while I was not nursing, and relieve some engorment.
1. It is very messy when removing the colleting cap
2. My nipples are still sore
3. And the only way to relieve engorment pain is to nurse or to pump
If I would have known about these factors I would not have purchased this product!

I purchased these breast shields not knowing when or if I would use them. I am so glad that I did. My nipples got so sore during the 1st few months of breastfeeding and the shells saved me. They brought instant relief by keeping them protected from anything that touched them (it creates a barrier around them so clothes don't rub), plus they catch any leaking milk. They helped me not to give up breastfeeding.
