Customer Review: Fantastic idea, but one small problem

Our son turned out to be severely allergic to just about every food imaginable from all dairy to meats to most grains, so transitioning away from breast milk has been exceedingly difficult. We'd invested quite a bit in a large assortment of Avent bottles to avoid needing to wash everything as often since nearly every meal for him consists of special (ever notice how special always equals twice as expensive as normal?) formula, and he has quite the appetite. We used these spouts to transition away from nipples and get used to the sippy cups, and they work fantastically for that purpose. Using them both with bottles and the sippy cups makes a nice standard interface for him to be comfortable with, and decreases the number of valves and tops and doo-dads to keep track of. I echo the sentiment of being extremely grateful that Avent has done this.
The transition went (eventually) extremely well, but I'd like to take one point off of my review for an interesting flaw my son has found. The valve works in such a way as to allow liquid to flow into the spout only when there is suction applied. Unlike some other manufacturers, the valve covers both the spout and the small air-introduction vent. The problem happens when my son decides to blow into the spout - the liquid trapped in the spout after suction ceases unfortunately finds it easier to stay within the valve and leave through the vent instead of going back into the bottle. It usually means that there is some cleanup involved and we can't let him on the carpet with anything other than water, which is tough to break him of since we had no problem allowing it back with nipples. A minor inconvenience, but my son finds a way (as always) to exploit it for my neverending housekeeping enjoyment.
As with anything, your mileage may vary, and your child may not discover the joys of leaking small amounts of liquid after every sip. :)
