Baby Products Reviews of Philips AVENT BPA Free Infant Bottle Starter SetCustomer Review: Bottles Don't Leak, you're welcome to contact me, I swear by them!! Summary: 5 Stars
Honestly, I have no idea what people mean by "the bottles leak." Seriously, I haven't experienced a single leak at all. In fact, I filled every single one of my Avent BPA Free Bottles and threw them around wondering if someone was tossing them and they were leaking... not a drop. I use the bottles like intended, as a normal person would. I LOVE THESE BOTTLES and they deserve all the credit in the world. We tried a few other bottles before we used our Avent bottles. I was a little reluctant because of the reviews but I have 8 Avent bottles I received through various gifts, so I took them out and used them. Our entire little family loves these bottles. Not only do they NOT LEAK, but they have virtually eliminated our baby's gas problem. No fuzzing, not at all, and he gets no gas. In fact, our son recognizes the nipples of the Avent Bottles and won't have any other nipple but these. The Number 1, slow flow nipple is perfect for our new born, and we have no bottle-to-mouth leakage as our baby gets every single drop. They are pretty bottles and although I was concerned (Medela bottles have a neck that fits most all nipples while Avent's necks are specially difficult to use with any other nipple or cover save for Avent brands), about the wide neck not fitting into other tops and nipples, but we rather spend the money for Avent products because we're so happy. These bottles don't look half as cheap as the Medela, Dr. Brown, or Evenflo bottles (we have them all), and yesterday I went and tossed all my evenflo and dr. brown bottles - I just won't use them.
The design of the Avent bottles are also very stylish and classy. What my husband and I found to be one of the best features, surprisingly, was the "clear" nipples to go with the bottle. When I pump, every single drop of milk is like liquid gold. We want to make sure he finishes every drop of my breastmilk but it's hard to tell without taking the bottle off our baby's mouth. The Avent clear nipples allow us to see that he's drinking every drop before we take the bottle off his mouth (no crying, no fighting, no trying to fit the nipple back into his mouth - which has been a challenge for us since our baby tends to keep his tongue on the roof of his mouth). These little things are things I never thought about before I had my baby. Every baby's different, and for ours, these bottles seem to have been made especially for him.
I can't tell you enough or clearly emphasize how much we love these bottles.
Customer Review: Loved everything about the starter set...except the bottles! Summary: 2 Stars
I used the original Avent bottles with my first baby in 2004 and absolutely LOVED THEM! I was disappointed with my second baby that they were not offering a BPA free alternative. I even called the company to inquire and was told that they stuck by the safety of their bottles and had no plans to make a BPA free line. Imagine my surprise a few months later when I saw these on the store shelf. I guess pressure from consumers forced them to have a change of heart. Which leads me to believe that these were massed produced with little or no attention to detail/design. These bottles leaked horribly!! Some people have complained about the original ones leaking, but I have never had problems with them. I even tried every helpful hint I found by reviewers here...with no luck. My bottles drip like a faucet from underneath the rim. After feeding the baby and sitting the bottle upright the formula drips from the nipple straight down and out from underneath the rim. I know with all Avent bottles there is a "science" to tightening them, but they need to head back to the drawing board with these.
All was not lost though...at least the set included a bottle brush and dispenser! I have to say the bottle brush is great...it won't work (go down far enough) in the more narrow Dr. Brown's bottles. But, I have found that it makes an excellent laundry brush. The bristles are soft enough not to damage garments but rough enough to gently work out stains.
The formula/snack dispenser is the best on the market. It's great to just throw in the diaper bag and go. Unlike other brands the sectioned divider is removable and when using it as a formula dispenser the powder doesn't spill from one compartment to another. Hopefully, Avent will once again return to the great quality bottle it once was!
Customer Review: Leaky - Philips Ought to be Ashamed Summary: 2 Stars
Isn't Philips one of the biggest companies in the world? You think they'd get their product testing right. Hard to believe they'd put their name on something that fails at such a basic level. Clearly they rushed to get this product to market during the recent BPA hysteria.
Hard to say anything that hasn't been said here before. We bought these bottles because they only had one piece to clean (unlike the Dr Brown's). We regret not taking the time to research our bottles when registering. We are considering ditching our $250 investment.
Cons:
- LEAKY. Leaks everywhere all the time, regardless of how you test the bottle when sealing it. You will get milk/formula all over everything. (We also clean the bottles as we're supposed to - handwashed, never in the dishwasher)
- Prone to staining over time - our clear bottles are now dull yellow, four months later
Pros (collectively earn the product a 2nd star):
- Quantities clearly marked on the side of each bottle
- Formula powder premeasured cup is very convenient on the road
- Steamer/sterilizer is well designed
Put it this way: I am taking the time to write this review at 5:00 am after a late night feeding. I got formula all over my shirt and all over my baby, again - it got me so frustrated I had to sit down and write this review in the middle of the night.
Philips ought to be ashamed - I used to think of them as a company that made high-quality stuff.
Customer Review: Run from ALL Avent Bottle Products, Try Other Bottle Systems Summary: 1 Stars

Avent Products USED TO be quality. Back in 2000 the nipples had no vent and worked great. A year ago we decided to use the AVENT bottle system again with our new baby. That was a big mistake. We read the instructions, tried every trick posted on Internet. No matter what, we always ended up SOAKED. Imagine the situation - leaking bottle, SCREAMING hungry baby. After two weeks of this we complained to AVENT. Apparently talking to the Customer Rep they were aware of the issue, suggested their workarounds with me on phone which I made an effort to try to follow their instructions exactly. But they did not work. They then suggested their TEMPO disposable system sending us several bottles and around 400 liners. The TEMPO had a 'clamshell' that basically sealed the nipple in the ring. It worked GREAT with no problems ever since. At that time the rep assured me AVENT was working on a FIX and I think I know what their FIX was - to DISCONTINUE the TEMPO Disposable. As a registered user they sent no email or warning, I show up at store and find NO TEMPO lines. We had planned on a systematic transition off bottle to sippy cup but now we have no choice but to go COLD TURKEY with less than 6 liners left and nowhere to buy them. Our 1 yr old is too used to the AVENT nipple to invest in another system. Even with leaks he won't try the AVENT Bottle.

Customer Review: There should only be one way to screw on the lids--the right way Summary: 2 Stars
I received this as gift but I will not buy more avent bottles. There should only be one way to screw on the lids--the right way. Yes, there are tricks to putting them on properly but who wants to mess with that at 3am in the dim lighting? And who wants to have to test whether the bottle is leaking over the sink before feeding to your crying baby? And who wants to teach other care providers the tricks to screwing the lids on properly which may or may not work all of the time? Bottom line is that there are better bottles out there. I like the avent nipples and brand but it doesn't seem too challenging or demanding to request a bottle that doesn't need tricks in order not to leak all over your child's outfit, your couch, your outfit and whatever else might be around.
I didn't receive the powder dispenser with my set. I don't think it was purchased from Amazon though. I bought it separately and really like it because it can be used as a snack dispenser later on. Also, I bought 2 more level 1 nipples since our baby gags on the level 2 medium flow nipples.
So we still use the avent bottles but I use all of my other bottles first. Since I'm breastfeeding and bottle feeding, I was looking for a bottle/nipple that would simulate the breast as much as possible. I just bought playtex ventaires (wide bottles with slow flow nipples) and I love them. They are more affordable and they have similar nipples to the avent bottles.
