Baby Products Reviews of PRI Folding Potty with Handles, White graniteCustomer Review: Very Happy Customer Summary: 5 Stars
My family and I do a lot of traveling and I was looking for an inexpensive potty seat that will work and be easy to carry. I loked at several products and found the PRIMO folding potty seat and after reading the other reviews I gave it a try. Four months of using this has left me a very happy customer.
1. The price: it's under ten dollars. Prices for portable seats range from $9.99 to almost $35.00.The BABYBJÖRN Toilet Trainer was at the expensive end and even though I like BABYBJORN products I was reluctant to spend that much for a portable seat.
2. Fit: I have yet to come across a public toilet seat that the PRIMO does not work with. Airports, malls, restaurants - I've had no problems so far. It was a good thing that I read the reviews first, however. One tip by other customers is to place the seat at the front part of the toilet instead of the middle or towards the back part of the seat. This not only helps with the fit, but it prevents the seat from folding or pinching once you place your child on it.
3. Child-approved: When my daughter was first potty trained she was only comfortable using the toilet at home. I was worried about accidents and her holding it for too long. She put up a fuss the first two times I used the PRIMO, but once she became comfortable with the seat we now have no worries. She likes the handles on the side and I'm just happy she has something to hold on to that's not part of the public toilet seat or the stalls.
4. Easy to carry: The PRIMO is packaged in a ziplock bag (a little smaller than a gallon size ziplock) and instead of throwing it away I used it to carry the seat, a small Lysol spray, hand sanitizer, and papertowels. The seat, when folded, fits into a gallon size ziplock with more than enough room for other things. I carry a messenger bag for a purse so the seat will fit into most medium to large bags or purses. Definitely a carry on if you are flying.
Overall this has been a great purchase. Very low cost, durable, easy to carry and clean, and my daughter is comfortable with it. I'm glad I shopped around and read reviews.
Customer Review: fantastic, safe potty seat Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this seat for my 2.5 year old daughter to keep in the diaper bag and use when we're out and about. I had read the reviews on a bunch of seats and thought that this looked the most promising. We LOVE it. It works really well as long as you keep in mind that it's not designed to completely cover the toilet seat. It perches on the front of the seat and there is often open space above the toilet bowl behind the seat. But if you keep the front lip aligned with the front rim of the toilet seat, there's no problem with it wobbling or bending. Our daughter is about 30-35 pounds and we've used this on dozens of different toilets now of all makes, models, and sizes (shopping malls, museums, airplanes, camping, port-a-potties, etc.) without a single problem.
Pros:
this seat fits any and every toilet
it won't pinch my daughters bottom because of the way the hinges are designed
it folds up really compactly and fits easily in my handbag or diaper bag
Cons:
the only one that I can think of is that although it's advertised to come with a carrying case, it's really just a cheap ziplock bag. I keep our seat folded up in a waterproof zippered bag (like you can use for cloth diapers or wet swimsuits)--that way I can just toss it in the laundry and wash it after we've been someplace gross.
This is a GREAT toilet seat for traveling.
Customer Review: First Impressions and a Test Drive Summary: 3 Stars
Item just arrived and I was excited to try it out, so we tried it in our own bathroom. We have a more "oval" shaped toilet bowl and the seat fit quite awkwardly, even when placed at the front of the toilet. The picture on the box makes it appear that it covers most of the toilet and that is simply not the case at least with the oval, not round, toilets. Got it "in place" as best I could and it started to slide under my son.
So, I lifted the toilet seat and placed the PRIMO seat directly on the toilet. A much better fit. Placed my son again and he was content to sit there for a while. He's about 35 pounds though and that seems to be testing the strength of the seat! I don't think it will snap, but I foresee having to stoop down next to him to provide added stability.
I'm not keen on the idea of having to place the seat directly on the bowl in a public place... my own bathroom was one thing! For that reason, this item will see little use, save at Grandma or Auntie's house. Also, a few more pounds and I don't think my kiddo will be able to safely use it.
If your child is less than 30 pounds and/or you think you'll be using it on "round" toilets most of the time, you could give it a shot. In my situation, I doubt I'd buy it again, but perhaps I'll feel differently after trying it on another toilet. I'll update this review in a few weeks.
Customer Review: A little flimsy, but helps get the job done Summary: 3 Stars
The fit on the seat isn't intuitive, but other reviewers who described how to seat the front lip in front of the potty were very helpful.
My son is 30 lbs., and the seat does bow in a little from his weight, but doesn't collapse entirely. For a boy, one should keep repeating, "Point it down, point it down," because there is no splash guard for absent minded boy toddlers.
I can see how a little tush might get pinched if the seat were not completely unfolded before he sat down, so it's important to make sure it's completely flat.
The design of going over the front of the seat makes sense now, as it minimizes contact between those curious little hands and a dirty public toilet seat. I keep Lysol wipes in my pouch to clean the bottom side of the seat before folding it up and storing it again.
It fits easily into a small diaper bag or a large purse. It's definitely something I want on hand on trips to friends' houses or public places.
I wish it were a little sturdier and there were a good way to avoid the possibility of pinching, but I will say my 2 year old is particularly squirmy, and he hasn't fallen in or yelped in pain yet.
The bottom line is, it is functional, although not perfect, and I would buy it again if I needed to replace it.
Customer Review: Just what we needed! Summary: 5 Stars
I read the other reviews before purchasing this item, and I went ahead and bought it... hoping we could figure out the right way to use it! It is just great, as far as I can see, and I'm sad that more parents might not try this product due to the ratings. Read on - you DO need to line it up with the front "lip" over the front edge of the toilet seat you're placing it on - not at all hard to do. It does not cover the whole top area of the toilet - probably just the front half, making it just the right size for a small person. I don't quite understand how someone thought the handles were where the legs should go... I think the handles are well-placed - right where my daughter would be gripping dirty toilet seat edges! (Also, as someone got cut, perhaps there was something faulty with that one product. The hinges seem very well-constructed on ours.) In this day and age, there is NO WAY I would let my daughter sit on a public toilet seat, and those paper covers shift and don't work for a wiggly toddler. My daughter sat on this and felt very secure - in no way like she would if I were trying to "suspend" her over the toilet. This product is just what we needed for travelling, and I'm glad we have it!!!
