Customer Review: Really liked the OLD model, but this NEW model stinks!!!
Summary: 1 Stars

OLD MODEL - My daughter has really liked the Fisher Price aquarium in her crib. After 1.5 years of good use, it began to defectively leak some water into the crib (not much, but eventually there was no water for the fish to swim in!). I could forgive the old model because we had definitely gotten our money's use out of it, and it has been a GREAT toy. BUT...

When I went to get another one, there is only the NEW MODEL. I thought it would be new and improved, so was excited! But not the case for one sole reason. The NEW MODEL is designed with its battery pack mounted through the crib slats and on the other side of the crib. It is a very clunky design, one of which my daughter can just pull the back of (and does every night)...and then we find it in her bed the next morning with no fish swimming or singing. It has gone from being one of her favorite night time toys to now being totally unfucntional. *****Poor design change****** I hope that they will revert back to the Old Model soon.

Before buying, check ebay or a garage sale for an old version of this toy - - - a much better model. Also, the bird nest (similar function) is designed the exact same way.

Customer Review: Might be fun...If you could get it to WORK!!!

I was excited to buy this toy for my 3 month old, hoping it would give her something interesting to look at while we transition her to her crib. It took me about an hour and a half before I took it apart and back to the store!

First, the battery pack is seperate and needs to be strategically placed to screw in the screws that you can't even see.

Second, once the screws are in (20 minutes later) you can put the batteries in, and if the screws aren't in correctly you have to take the batteries out and try again...

Once you FINALLY have it put together and go to change the setting it turns off because the battery back comes loose and then you have to start back at trying to get the battery pack on right!!!

We have other "aquarium" toys by Fisher Price and we love them, But this toy is the worst thing that we have ever bought! I have only one thing to say to Fisher Price, give me a break-like we have hours to fiddle with this thing when we are trying to take care of a baby!!!

I would not buy this toy, unless you have a lot of patience and a lot of free time to try to get it to work.

Customer Review: Like the original design better
Summary: 3 Stars

We had the first Ocean Aquarium by Fisher Price with our first child back in 2002, it was awesome and our son loved it. We literaly wore it out completely beyond repair. It was easy to put on the crib and even straped to his toddler bed later for a nightlight he could turn on hisself when he needed it. When our next two girls were born they had come out with the square designed aquarium (2003,2004) and we bought it for the them. We hated it, and so did everyone we knew. It did nothing to keep their attention, we have ours and one that was given to us by someone else who didn't like it sitting in our closet, mostly unused. With our fourth child we bought this one and it is better than the second but still not as good as the original. It is bulky, harder to get on the crib and limits placement. It is not as soothing cause the light is so bright, and the settings are not as friendly. My baby does like to watch the fish go around and we do use it, but it still isn't as good as the original. I would recommend this as okay, but if you could find the circle aquarium that came out in 2002 at a garage sell, you would be much happier.

Customer Review: My son loves this toy!
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this for my 5 mo. old baby. My baby is not fussy and usually when I put him in his crib, he would fall asleep right away. Sometimes, however, and as he grew older, he would protest and cry and would want me to pick him up. Ever since I got him this toy, the first thing he does, when I put him in his crib, is look at the toy in anticipation. I turn it on, turn the monitor on and leave the room. I rarely hear any crying or any protesting. He falls right to sleep!
When he wakes up in the middle of the night to nurse, sometimes he falls right to sleep and some times he doesn't. If the latter was the situation, I would turn the aquarium on and he would fall asleep shortly after.
My son is 6 1/2 mo. now and he still looks at it in anticipation every time I put him in his crib.
The sound of the bubbles tends to be a little loud and hopefully it won't get louder than this.
Installing it took a little more time than what I hoped, but when I finished and turned it on, I was very impressed and forgot the time it took to install it. All in all, I am very pleased with this toy and so is my son :).

Customer Review: Wish I'd read some of these reviews first!

I was so excited about this updated aquarium! My four year old had the older version, and I liked the idea of the new fish movements. So the grandparents bought my five month old this new version and I couldn't wait to crack into it - until I actually got it out of the box. I tried it one night while the baby was asleep, and the motor was incredibly LOUD, much louder than the previous model. Plus I didn't even have the right kind of screwdriver to screw the battery compartment onto the back of the toy. Why did that have to be so difficult?!? I mean, I liked the idea of easier access to the batteries, but the design was very clunky and very difficult to use. So now I just have to decide whether I want to try and find the right kind of screwdriver and test the brightness of the screen (I did like how the lights moved around from area to area) and get fresh D cell batteries (had one somewhat used battery in the mix), or whether I should just return the darned thing and call it done. If I can find a suitable replacement, I'll probably just return this. Very disappointed, especially since it's from Fisher-Price!
