Customer Review: Do not buy this!!
Summary: 2 Stars

We have had 3 of these aquariums so far. The first one we had was the original in 2002 which my son LOVED but after about 6 months, the fish stopped swimming around the tank. He still liked it for a little while but it was not very entertaining.

So when my 2nd son came along, I ran right out to buy another one-the new version. The battery pack is a huge problem because we needed to use it in several locations-the crib, the pack n play and next to the billi-lights when the baby had jaundice. The huge, heavy battery pack made it scary to put near the baby unless it was attached and hanging on a railing and it was very time consuming to keep unscrewing the battery pack to relocate it.

Then, after 3 weeks, the fish stopped swimming again. Every time the octopus comes around the front, it gets stuck there unless you smack it a few times.

We went back to Babies R Us and they said they would exchange it but the manager basically said "good luck finding one that works". We did get another one and the same thing happens...the fish get stuck going around.

This is a GREAT concept with nice music/sounds, adorable fishy friends and soothing bubbles and soft lights but for $30, it should also actually work. I am returning it and finding another crib toy today.

Customer Review: Buy the older version. This new version has an awkward external battery pack.
Summary: 2 Stars

I read the reviews here and noticed people talking about the undesirable changes that were made to the newer version of the aquarium toy. I went and bought it at Babies R Us anyway and was so excited to get it home and use it. It took a while to get the clumsily-designed battery pack attached to the main toy (they're in two pieces). After attaching the two components, I set it on full show (sound, lights, bubbles) and wouldn't you know it, the music and lights worked, but the bubbles weren't there! By this time I was pretty frustrated at having to deal with the super-bulky battery pack and the awkwardness of putting it together, nevermind a defective toy. I was at a rummage sale today and as luck would have it, I found the older version of this toy in perfect working order. It even came with batteries! Let me say that the older version is slimmer because the batteries are stored IN the toy. This is a BIG PLUS if your baby is to play with this without it being attached to the crib. I will be taking the new defective aquarium back to BRU and keeping the old one. Find an old one on eBay or at BRU. I saw one package of the older version at BRU amoungst many of the newer ones. I wonder if Fisher Price realizes that their new design is flawed and is still secretly selling the old version.

Customer Review: Not as good as the old one, but still great!
Summary: 4 Stars

I agree with other reviewers that the older model was better in many ways, but this version is still priceless for putting baby to sleep. We had the original model FP made, which had softer lights and much quieter motion sound, as well as our favorite feature --the lights going through actual water to create ripples of light on the ceiling. I was crushed to find that this version no longer had that feature. And also, like others have said, it is much more of a hassle to move. We take it whenever going to my parents or another friends' house where napping will occur. You have to take the entire battery compartment off with a screwdriver and a small amount of swearing each time.

That said, my daughter is nearly two and still goes to sleep with her aquarium every single night. We keep the motion turned off for a more soothing lullabye, but she like to turn it on when she wakes up and wave to her "fishies" as they swim by.

Our original one had screws that rusted, so it had stopped working by this age. This one, however, I can see being used for a couple more years sitting on a shelf by her bed as a sort of toddler boom box. :0)

The other improvement that would be great is a remote to restart it from outside the door.

Customer Review: Great toy, wish it would have a remote control
Summary: 4 Stars

I don't have the older model, so I have nothing to compare this acquarium with. However, I don't have any problems with the battery box, the brightness, or the size.
The batteries are easy to replace. No need to take the toy off the crib (unlike my mobile, which is a pain). It takes exactly 30 seconds to unscrew the screw. I don't understand why people are having trouble with that.
The lights are ok. In fact, it's like a light show, very mesmerizing. I turn the lights on for some time when my baby goes to bed, and when its time to sleep, I turn the lights and the motion off, leaving just the sound. When the baby is asleep, I turn the unit off completely, so that the baby won't accidentally turn it on at night.
The size is fine too. In fact, it's big enough for my 4-month-old to reach with his hand and feet, so that he can turn it on and off. He wasn't intimidated by it at all. The sound quality is great. I never had a problem with the acquarium falling off.
I gave this product 4 stars instead of five for only one reason - it needs a remote control. It would be great to be able to change settings without having to enter the baby's room. Other than that, this product is great!

Customer Review: Unbelievable
Summary: 2 Stars

I can not believe that I just spent over an hour and a half trying to "assemble" this fish tank. Had I only read some of the reviews on this website before I purchased it, I would have saved myself a lot of time and aggravation and just used my 2 1/2 year old's older version. Whoever designed the battery pack compartment on this thing should be fired, or at the very least, forced to sit in a room and assemble 20 of them as penance. The clunky, unwieldy battery pack leaves you with few options but to put the fish tank on the wall side of the crib (unless you want older children pulling on/playing with it), assuming, of course, that you can manage to attach it using the invisible screws they provide. My husband actually laughed at me as I sat red-faced and cursing under my breath, until he tried it himself, that is. We are intelligent people, and I would go so far as to say "handy," but this made us both throw up our hands. Anyway, I gave up trying to attach it to the crib and am now using it as a floor toy. The only good thing about the battery pack is that it stands the unit up when you use it on the floor. Bottom line, don't bother. If you have or can borrow an older model from someone, use it.
