Baby Products Reviews of Ocean Wonders Musical Aquarium Crib AttachmentCustomer Review: Great soother for baby Summary: 5 Stars
The most amazing thing just happened right now- our 4 month old baby was in her crib and was watching her aquarium--she then flipped over on her tummy to watch some more...within 2 minutes after I changed the song to just the ocean sounds she laid her head to her side, kind of cozied up and fell asleep!
Of course- I'll turn her over on her back to sleep the rest of the evening-- but it was so special and heartwarming to see her do this. Ususally- she'll nurse and I'll have her lay next to me to fall asleep or we'll bundle her up and play her Kenny Loggins Pooh Corner lullaby while we walk and rock her to sleep--all of which are special moments that I wouldn't trade in for the world! But seeing her take the initiative at four months old to sleep with her head next to the aquarium's ocean sounds just warmed my heart...it must be like being in the womb or almost as good as being close to me.
While no one can guarantee that your baby will love this toy- it's sure worth a try... I don't think you'll be disappointed -the light show is beautiful and the songs are recognizable and played at such a slow pace- it even makes me sleepy! But- don't worry- it automatically turns off on its own after 10 minutes.
As other reviewers have said- it is kind of hard to get it strapped onto the crib and changing the batteries can be cumbersome- but to me these are minor technicalities in the big scheme of it all. What matters most is what baby thinks and what baby likes- and in this cause she loves her aquarium and so do we!
Customer Review: Very pleased! Summary: 5 Stars
I first bought this product for my baby daughter and was so pleased I ordered a few more, which I gave as gifts. This was the only thing that would help soothe my daughter, aside from being held. She suffered from horrible colic for her first 3 months, so we tried everything to help her sleep, and the sweet music along with the soothing ocean scene worked great to calm her. No matter how long it played, it never got annoying, as other toys that involve music can get after awhile. It even has the option to switch tunes or listen to the sounds of gurgling water or turn off the sound completely. It stayed in my daughter's crib until she was old enough to switch to a toddler bed and she never got tired of playing with it. As she got older, she could turn it on by herself. It safely attaches to the crib without damaging it over time, as some attachments can do, and is easy to remove and reattach as often as needed, but childproof, so you don't have to worry about your child being able to unattach it. Nothing about this was complicated and the concept is very simple and very effective. I was very happy with this product, as well as the price and would definitely recommend this for a baby boy OR girl. It makes a great shower gift as well, as it is unique enough that you can be pretty sure no one else will give a duplicate, it's versitile and extremely affordable. This was one of best things we purchased for our baby and one of the best values, too. I highly recommend this!
Customer Review: My son still loves it at 19 months Summary: 5 Stars
I have to laugh when I see people writing reviews based on frustration about changing batteries and putting it together. Does anyone read the directions anymore? This thing is not complicated whatsoever. The first time you put it on baby's crib takes a bit of muscle, which is intentional - baby should not be able to pull it off (safety issues, it's heavy). The battery pack is removable from the other side of the crib, which is great. It's out of baby's reach, and it's easy to do a quick change without uninstalling anything. The person who said the screws are embedded and difficult to change obviously didn't read the directions - the batteries are easily changed from the OTHER SIDE of the battery pack using 2 easy screws that are easy to reach. (Would you want your child to be able to take batteries out of a product they will be left alone with? I wouldn't). My point is: READ THE DIRECTIONS, and you will be just fine. My son is 19 months old and loves, loves, LOVES this toy. He watches it every night before sleeping, and turns it on every morning when he wakes up - THEN HE GOES BACK TO SLEEP FOR ANOTHER HALF HOUR! If that's not worth $30, I don't know what is. The volume is adjustable, and CAN be set to a soothing mode, despite other reviews. It can be music only, music and lights, or music, lights and bubbles ... admittedly, the bubbles are on the noisy side. The music is delightfully peaceful. I would buy this again and again if I had to.
Customer Review: Who designed this thing????? Summary: 1 Stars
Ok...we bought the aquarium in 2001 for our son and he loved it. He used it consistently for 3 years...it even followed him into his big boy bed! I was thrilled when my brother bought for our newest little one for Christmas. While the bubbles and music are wonderful and entertaining for my 3-month-old, this toy is every parent's nightmare.
First of all, it is entirely too heavy and clunky. Second of all, while I can see the convenience of having the battery pack attached to the outside, it was WAY too heavy to attach. I gave up after about an hour of cusing and left it to my husband. I never saw a problem with having the batteries in the back of the toy, so why they redesigned it I have no idea. Third, the rectangular part that attaches the toy to the battery pack DOESN'T FIT THROUGH ALL CRIB Our bars are pretty wide and are just a wee bit too small to fit the attachment. Again, imagine how disheartening that is to a parent after spending 30 minutes figuring out how to attach the thing! We did end up finding a space to fit it in, but it's not in the best view for our son.
What a shame that the redesigned model is such a disaster, because it used to be a wonderful toy. This was obviously not designed by a parent. Had I not thrown the box away, I would be returning it to the store.
Customer Review: Entertaining, possibly too distracting after awhile Summary: 4 Stars
I really like this item. My daughter was generally drawn to the moving critters since she was even weeks old. She would often fall asleep to it, and it always shuts off automatically. There are several music & sound selections, and a good range of volume control. The unit is rather noisy when the creatures are moving, but their movement can be turned off while still being able to play the music/sounds. My daughter could turn the music on/off by hitting the shell button, whether she knew she was controlling it or not. Sometimes she would do so accidentally in the middle of the night, so it was important for us to keep the sound level down. By about 4 months, she loved rolling to her side and spinning the red lobster (on the bottom middle), so much that she seemed to try doing it when half asleep, even when her arm wasn't near it. We removed it from the crib around 5 months because it seemed to excite her too much when she needed to try to sleep, the same problem we have with a mobile. The mobile is still up because we can swing it out of the way, but to remove the aquarium requires a screwdriver and removal of the batteries, so it's not easily put up and down. I will likely try it again when she can sit up in the crib. I still use it occasionally for the music, and wish it was more stable on the floor on its own.
