Baby Products Reviews of North States Superyard Play Yard, Classic XTCustomer Review: Great, but hard to set up Summary: 3 Stars
We got this for our living room which doubles as a play area. Now that our son is more mobile, we purchased this so we would not have to baby proof everything in the living room.
Once set up, this works pretty well, stays in place, and is sturdy enough for a 10 month old. It look quite a long time to set up, and moving it or changing the configuration is not easy as the product advertises. The yard does not fold. The teeth like connectors keeps the corners sturdy which is good for safety, but prevents any folding. Connecting and disconnecting the panel was quite difficult. Hard enough that my husband had to do most of it. Between the 2 of us, it took about 15 minutes. Definitely not "seconds" unless they meant "hundreds of seconds". All in all, would buy it again, but it's not the wonder product we thought.
A sample from the instructions:
"To disconnect two adjoining panels, select one of the three corners where the blue carpet foot is facing up. Gently press down on the panel 1, and while lifting up on panel 2, slide pin C clear of cylinder D. Then lift on panel 1 until opening A has cleared pin B"
Customer Review: Versatile Summary: 5 Stars
I first bought this and the two panel extension kit to keep my 8 month old contained when I let my grandparents watch him. Well I have found many more uses for it at home. I use it to block off the bird cage (and their droppings) from the baby and my dog. My dog used to eat the food that the birds dropped and would get sick. Also, I use the extra two panels to block off an area of escape from our living room, so my 9 month old can't go where I can't see him from the kitchen. Aditionally, I use the panels as they are intended, as a hexagon, to make a play area outside on our porch for my 9 month old. I can do yard work while he gets to enjoy the great outdoors.
The panels are simple to attatch and detach, though they are not so easy to bend and shape at first. They even come with skid proof stick things to put on the bottom so the kids can't push the thing around.
I am going to buy another extender kit so that I can have panels blocking off my birds and can use the 6 others as an outdoor play area at the same time.
Oh, also, the price is great. I saw this on Amazon.com from another seller for 129$.
Customer Review: Not really for children Summary: 2 Stars
I purchased two of these gates for my twins with hopes of connecting them together forming a rectangle around their existing play mat. This product certainly could not perform that function. My 10m/os tipped it over immediately. Then we tried the gates as advertised, individually as hexagons, and they still were able to move them.
The worst part was trying to return them. They were placed in one order, but Amazon shipped them as two. When requesting a 'call tag' to retrieve them, they only picked up one box. The other remained on my front porch. Multiple emails and calls finally rid me of the other gate and I received my refund.
I ended up buying two Kidco Playdens PD10. They connected together in the 8' X 4' configuration I needed (I called Kidco first to make sure), there is two swinging entries, it is very sturdy, it is taller than the Superyard, and they can not climb it. This solution costs more, but was really my only option.
For children of the age where they are challenging their standing and climbing skills, I would keep moving when looking at this product.
Customer Review: Neither Safe Nor Sturdy Enough (For My Standards!) Summary: 1 Stars
This gate, although intended for children, is not safe! It doesn't say anywhere in the instructions or description that you should bolt it to the ground, or that you should make sure they don't go near it or they will move it.
I have twins, and I bought this gate, mounted in the suggested hexagonal shape, on top of non-lid foam mat, typed it (with carpenter's double sided tape) to the mat, and it'd still move when my twins try to pull themselves up (which they're learning to do at 10 months old).
Aditionally, I'd like to mention that I thought (when purchasing this) that having a door was not a must; but after having to jump in an out of the play area many times a day, carrying at least a baby, or trying to pick up a baby bending in and lifting it, I realized, having a door is essential!!!
A couple of physical therapists who come to work with my girls fell down getting out of the North States Superyard XT; and I did too fell down when rushing to pick up one of my daughters who have fallen down.
I too bought two Kidco Playdens PD10, and they are FANTASTIC!
Customer Review: Happy country Mom Summary: 4 Stars
This was a kinda the spur of the moment thing. My son is 10mo and he is very wild he loves to throw things around in his play pen so when I seen this I thought I could buy it and seperate my kitchen and living room so my son has more room, Well we have a new double wide and the opening is very large and we were going to keep our son in the living room and our new puppy in the kitchen but it didnt fit. I also think that it isnt pretty but I didnt buy it to decorate my house I bought it to make my son happy so he isnt stuck in a little baby play pen. We have had it set up and he has enough room now for his big sister of 4 yrs. old to get into it and play without running him over. I also am happy that I purchased this play yard for him he has enjoyed it so far.I think that it will benefit us in the long run big time and it even has enough room for a couple of his baby friends to play in there with him. He has a bad habit of shaking the play pen so I was curious to see him do it to this one but he couldnt move it that much,Not saying he can't but we will find out more in the next couple of mths.
