Customer Review: GREAT FOR TWINS AND TRAVEL!
Summary: 5 Stars

We love this gate. We have twins and take it to the in-law's home because they are not child proofed and have a wood stove to keep babies away from. also we use it out on our deck, in the yard, and when we were replacing our carpets with wood flooring. we have the octagonal gate because we bought the extensions. the gate broke twice, once when I tripped and fell on it over a large toy and snapped it between me and the toy, and once we left it outside in a windstorm and it blew off our deck into the neighbors yard which is a downhill drop. we got the gate when they were under a year old and now they are almost 2 and we still use it. it's big enough with the extension that we can all get in there to play, and in the yard they have fun in there but stay out of the road (we are a corner lot with no fence.) We have also used it as a room divider. if you have a slippery floor (wood, linoleum) just put it on top of a big blanket or some of those foam puzzle mats. it works great and won't scoot. It took us several months to finish our floors and this was so helpful because they could watch us work on the floor on one side of the room while they played right there in sight. One reviewer stated he wanted to set it up into a square, which is a bad idea: it is not structurally as stable as a square (if you buy the two panel extension, which I highly recommend) because the middle joints of the square shape don't have leverage when flat like they do when bent out. even a slight bend in the joint makes a huge difference. this is really a big play space, my husband and I are both tall and we can both get in there with the kids and play with them one on one with toys and when we have them in there alone it's really enough space they don't care unless of course, they would rather be out doing what we are doing. But when you need a safe space to put little ones in while you are doing something else, this has really been a great solution for us, I'm so glad I bought it.

Customer Review: DANGEROUS!! PLASTIC SHARDS!! CHOKING HAZARD!!
Summary: 1 Stars

I personally didn't buy this gate, specifically because of the alarming number of reviews I found online about plastic shards breaking off of it. The following are only two of MANY reviews I found:

"Buyer Beware. We had two different gates sent to us. The initial one was missing a part. The second one had little pieces that were falling off of it the size of a piece of rice and sharper then you can imagine. We found this out because our nine month old was gagging on a piece - then investigated and found two other pieces on the floor. We took the part we needed out of the new gate and put it in the first one we received. We looked, and though that one looked okay. Last night I found two pieces that had broken off on the floor, thankfully before my son did. This happened to us twice - not a coincidence. I have talked to guest relations and they are putting out a product recall. This could have been a FATAL situation with our son!"

"DO NOT BUY THIS! I CAN'T BELIEVE I ORDERED THIS! Even after seeing one review that said they found dangerous shards of the product on the floor, their child had choked on these pieces. I just recieved the product and looked it over, it looked fine, set it up and put my 7 month old in it. He cried a bit so I climbed in...that is when I found some small rice sized VERY SHARP! pieces of the gate that had fallen off from it . I can't figure out where they came from. I assumed the other review must be a fluke or that the problem was fixed as they said the company was suposed to put a recall. I called the company to complain and they said they had never heard of the problem, and only offered to send a replacement gate. If a small child swallowed one of these incredibly sharp pieces it has the potential to be fatal!! DO NOT BUY!!!!!"

In short, the product should probably be recalled. Do not put your children at risk!!

Customer Review: Does the job, but it's bulky and kind of a pain
Summary: 3 Stars

I don't have children, but I do have a mischevious puppy - and she's the reason we purchased this gate system. Basically, we only needed it to protect the Christmas tree. Last year she was crated so we didn't have any problems, but this year, she is no longer in the crate, but isn't quite trustworthy enough that I would be able to leave the fully decorated Christmas tree alone and trust her not to have her way with it.

We actually purchased the Superyard from Toys R Us and I had seen photos of it before, but it really is huge in person. It should be noted, it's not all that big if you're actually using it for children to play in, but for our purposes it was enormous. Our Christmas tree is in the corner of the living room, so we didn't need to put this thing all the way around it - so it was kinda bunched up on one side where we left it unfolded. It was also a pain in that any time I wanted to take a picture in front of the tree, I'd have to move this ginormous thing out of the way, and fold it up and then unfold it again to put it back.

To be completely honest, it was ugly and I almost regret spending the money on it, although at the end of the day, it served its purpose and we didn't have any mishaps. Next year, we'll probably just put the Christmas tree in the eat in kitchen and gate off the entire room so I don't have to look at this plastic monstrosity in my living room again.

It's made of thick plastic and seemed durable. It certainly wasn't easy to unfold it and arrange it, but once you get the hang of it, it's not as bad. A few times when pulling on it to "unfold" I was worried I would snap the plastic apart, but it held up pretty well. I don't know that I'd purchase this item to pen in children, but if you need it to block off certain things, it will do the trick - it's just really ugly to look at.

Customer Review: Great place for baby!
Summary: 5 Stars

i got this playyard for my 7m old daughter who kept wanting to get into dog food and wires and such so i was constantly running after her trying to protect her from her own curiosity. im also taking college classes online this semester and i cant concentrate with her getting into everything. well, this was a great investment. today was the first day and [with the extension] i can sit in there with her [which keeps her from crying] and do my college homework [big text books and a laptop.] she also cant get out, obviously, so no chasing her. it seems heavy enough so she can use it when she starts pulling herself up [which shes learning to do] and it wont flip over on her. sometimes, i use it to help brace myself as i step over [i have a bad back, so its nice to have a brace.] its kinda difficult to change the shape, but i look at that as a plus and a safety feature: baby cant change its shape and possibly hurt herself. over all, its great. really.

it also is pretty roomy by itself for just her, but i bought the extension because [as mentioned above] i sit in there with her to play with her and, sometimes, to keep her calm while i study. wit the extension she has just enough room to move around with me and my stuff in there as she would without the extension and without me and my stuff. if it helps a mom out in deciding if she can fit, too, im 5-7, 170.

***note: i also feel this would be great for puppies, too! without the extention, my dog [pointer, 40lbs] spent some time with my daughter [they love each other] in it together. they had room to move around each other without the dog stepping on toys or the baby, or the baby forcing the dog to move after crawling a lil. with the extension, i think itd be great for puppies to move around at 8wks and have mama dog there to nurse them. :)

Customer Review: Keeps My Puppy Safe... Sort of
Summary: 3 Stars

I purchased this play yard so I could give my 9 week old Boxer puppy a place to play that did not require my constant supervision. It took 10 minutes to assemble the unit into the hexagon shape (NOTE: with two people, it is a 1 minute task) and it actually provides more space than I thought it would. When I order this product, I also purchased the two-panel extension, but haven't needed to use them because the play yard is big enough on it's own.

The unit comes with a set of rubberized pads for use on hard surfaces, which protect my hardwood floors and keeps the unit from sliding when my 10lb puppy jumps up on the panels. I'm using this indoors so it should last a while. The play yard is made of 'mid-grade' plastic and I would be concerned about whether it could withstand extreme temperatures outdoors.

CAUTION: this is NOT a replacement for a crate. I made the mistake of thinking I had contained my pup to a safe space and left her in the play yard while I ran an errand. When I returned an hour later, the play yard was empty and my pup was in my master bedroom chewing on several of my shoes. Curious about how she got out, I later "left" her again, and watched from a window as she went to one end of the play yard and bolted into a running jump, scaling the panel and then flipping onto the floor on the other side. My heart stopped just watching this dangerous maneuver - it took her two attempts and less than 90 seconds to get out.

Overall, this serves the primary purpose I need. Rating it 3 stars because I think it should have been made a few inches taller. Three or four more inches in height and my pup would not have made it out -- and the fact that she can get out is a big deal because she can be seriously injured hitting the floor on the other side.
