Baby Products Reviews of North States Superyard 3 in 1 Metal Gate

Customer Review: Solid versatile gate system
Summary: 5 Stars

This was the best product that I could find for the money. We purchased this product to prevent our son from accidental contact with our woodstove in the winter season. The gate has very sturdy metal construction yet it folds up quickly and carries relatively easily to set up in another location. In the warmer months the gate has been handy outdoors on our porch to allow play time outside with less hands on supervision. Once the gate sections are angled to allow it to support itself vertically it has been stable enough to resist the occasional pull or push without becoming unbalanced. I have not seen the gate fall over unless it was completely folded for storage. We usually secure the gate around the woodstove and it has not moved at all when fully secured even with our son pulling himself upright with it. We have really enjoyed the flexible panel systems ability to adapt to many different shaped enclosures. We can make a circular play yard or subdivide a small room. The portability and adaptability mean we use this gate quite bit. We have had the gate for several months (>8 months) now and we have had no problems with function or durability. The gate latch might take some getting used to but works well for us. Overall we have been very pleased with the North States 3 in 1 metal Superyard.

Customer Review: Excellent product
Summary: 5 Stars

This gate is extremely versatile and has been a life saver as our 4th child started crawling and getting into everything. We home school and this allows me to have a safe area for him to have all of his toys and play while I work w/ the other 3. I bought two of the Superyards to put together in a large rectangle, and realized once I received them that I would be able to use the wall in the play space as half of the rectangle and really only needed one. We used the wall anchors and screwed them in. The greatest thing about the versatility of this play yard is that we can easily unhook the last length of the yard on one end and leave that segment anchored to the wall and stretch out/pivot the other 5 segments to function as a gate for our living room, leaving one end anchored still. It is kind of hard to explain, but the point is that this is a great product and I think we are going to keep the second one so we can have one that isn't anchored to the wall to use to block off the stairs or to take outside in the summer as a free standing hexagon. This is as helpful for baby entertainment of the 10-24 month age bracket as the jumperoo was for the 5-10 month age bracket--a lifesaver for me, and my little guy loves it!

Customer Review: Finally, my puppy can't escape!
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a great product! I used to have a standard puppy playpen, the kind made of wire. My puppy figured out how to climb out of it at about 12 weeks old. I put a border around the top and he climbed around it. I put a lid on the top and he climbed under it. All the movement scratched the floors and annoyed the downstairs neighbor.

Not so with this playpen! The bars are sturdy and the base is well-built. Even with a hyper puppy inside, the rubber feet keep the pen stationary on the wood floor. Because there are no horizontal bars for his little feet to catch, he simply cannot climb out. The gate is moderately tall, so there's no way he's jumping out either. Even when he gets bigger, he won't be able to get enough of a running start to hurdle over it. Best of all, since I don't have to have a lid on his pen, I can reach in and give little Max a pat on the head every time I walk by.

One caveat: if you care about the color of the pen, you should know that Amazon sent me a taupe pen, not a white one as pictured. I need the thing too much to do without it while I return it and wait for them to send the right color, so I'm stuck with taupe. Oh well!

Customer Review: It's OK
Summary: 3 Stars

I bought this to block off the 7 foot partition between my living room and dining room. The instructions are really vague. If you are just using it as a play area it is probably better. Me and my husband spent an hour setting this thing up and screwing the supports into the wall. The baby tore it loose from the wall in about 30 seconds. We have drywall so I had to go out and buy the plastic casings that you can put the screw into to make it stay in the wall better. They of course didn't fit through the hole in the supports so I had to hammer the casings into the wall first then screw the screws in. It is sturdier than it was before, but I don't know how long it will hold up against my wild baby. He is only 8 months so I was really shocked that he could pull it loose so easily. It seemed like the sturdiest gate at the store. All in all it's better than nothing but due to the amount of aggravation of having to buy more stuff to make it sturdier and having to take it down and put it back up it loses points. You'll probably be all right if you don't have a hyper baby like mine who is determined to tear it down..At the least it seems sturdier than the plastic models..

Customer Review: Good gate
Summary: 5 Stars

We use this gate to close off a room with an 8 foot doorway (to keep babies out of the home office). The gate is setup straight across the entry to the room and is anchored into studs in the walls.

The gate works well and across this distance it flexes, but is sturdy. 12 feet of gate were provided and if we felt that it was not sturdy enough we would have arced the gate, rather than laying it out straight across. When we tried it out in the arced fashion, it was sturdy enough for an adult to go crashing into it and still stay standing.

We used the hardware provided with the gate and had no issues. The gate can be detached from the wall in about 1 minute, so if we were interested in moving the gate somewhere and using it as a play yard elsewhere, that would be very easy.

As long as you setup your gate in a non-straight formation, you probably don't need to attach the gate to the wall by screwing it into studs (you'll need your own hardware if you don't attach the gate to a wall stud or wood). However, you should give the gate a good test once you're setup.
