This gate is superbly made and has a feel of great quality. I agree with one of the other reviewers that you need to figure out how to configure the extensions for your opening, but the company's website and customer service will help you. My application was between two walls, both of which had oversize 3/4 inch baseboards. Therefore, the distance to be spanned at the top of the gate was a full 1 1/2 inches more than at the bottom. This gate is made to handle that variation easily and securely. As our new puppy's visitors come in, they always comment on the great quality of the gate. The gate will gently close automatically provided you install it in a level manner. With our previous gate, we had to insert a book on each side to compensate for the baseboards. Also, since the bars are vertical, puppies cannot climb over the gate.Customer Review: Great pressure mount gate for top of stairs

My husband and I purchased this gate to reduce damage to our walls and have a sturdy top of stairs gate, as we have a steep staircase with several stairs. The gate is very sturdy, and overall is easy to install. The only tricky thing about the installation is knowing how to properly lift and open the gate after tightening the screws. The gate does close on its own without having to lift the gate and handle as the instructions mention, but after looking at the packaging at how the gate is supposed to look after it is installed, and how to lift the door, we had to tighten the screws further into the cups on the wall to achieve the proper closure. Would recommend this gate to those with small children, as it is very sturdy, but if there are elderly persons in the household, they may need assistance in opening the gate.Customer Review: Great quality product, well-made

We purchased this gate to use in a doorway to keep three little ones from escaping their playroom. It arrived the day after I placed my order. The product packaging was great, however the installation instructions were hard to follow. It goes require use of the wall mounting cups. It took more than two hours for me to install which was much longer than I planned when embarking on installation. I did call North States and got the installation help I needed easily. The gate is extremely well made and heavy duty. It does require you to push the thumb tab AND lift up to open the gate which I didn't realize before I received it. Because it is SO heavy, I have had some wrist pain from opening it repeatedly. However, I am pleased with the sturdiness of the gate and will likely buy another one for my stairway.Customer Review: Good gate but...

My overall impression of this gate is good, it's doing the job it been made for, my daughter can no longer escape from her room. But the gate could be improved in some points.
Pros:
-the gate is in metal and it's steady
-nice simple design
-automatic closing
Cons:
-the "click" when the gate is closing is loud
-not really pressure mounted, you've to use either the nail or stick the "pads" to fix the gate to the door
-a little bit to small for a 34 inches door, and too large with the extension, we had to extend the screw almost entirely
-automatic closing, a bit annoying at night especially, so I've prevent the door to close with a towel
-hard to open with one hand, if you're carrying your baby it's hard to do it

Our old house has thick baseboards, and each of the four contact points are independently adjustable so it works great.
We have to readjust it fairly often to get the auto-close to work right. I wouldn't call that a problem with the gate - most likely kids jerking it around too much when they open it. When it's working it's awesome.
It wasn't tall enough for our 60 pound dog, so we put it one stair up from the bottom to add 7" in height. Not recommended, but has worked fine for us as we are all healthy and careful.
UPDATE - With some hard use the latch in the middle of the gate broke in half. I called North States and within a couple of days had a new one - no charge - and the gate is good as new. Impressed with North States.
