Customer Review: Safe and easy to use

I bought this at the recommendation of a friend with kids. She even wrote down the manufacturer name for me since it's not well know. I couldn't find it in stores, just online, but it was worth it.
It's metal, so very sturdy. Although it came with cups to screw into the wall, we use it purely like a tension rod pushing against the wall. It closes automatically behind you. It does click, but it's on the stairs so it's really not an issue in my house.
The one problem we had, was when I first put it up, the latch didn't lock, you could just pull it open without lifting it up or pushing back the lock. I called the customer service and they were friendly enough. She told me to adjust the vertical position of the gate. It has to be exactly straight up to latch. I messed with it and sure enough it worked.
My daughter is now 15 months and has tugged on it several times to get at the cat on the other side to no avail. Plus, I feel very secure that it will close behind me automatically. No batteries needed (it's done with weights, its really quite ingenius in my opinion.)
My other piece of advice, measure your opening. I had to order the extension. Not a big deal, but it's an extra couple days to wait.
