Baby Products Reviews of Neat Solutions 50-count Sesame Street Table Topper Disposable Stick-in-Place PlacematsCustomer Review: It really depends on the child... Summary: 4 Stars
I purchased these table toppers for eating out with my 5.5 year old, 2 year old, and 7 month old...
My toddler and baby would constantly lick the table, or chew on it or something, and they both eat OFF a table, so I was quite concerned... I am NOT a "germaphobe", and I rarely wipe down a restaurant highchair unless its filthy, but the table and food is what I think is discusting (would you eat off a restaurant table?)
The table topper sticks to the table by two adhesive edges, on the top and bottom. I called the company to ask why its not all the way around (closer to the edges) and they said that would be too costly, and parents would have a difficult time removing the toppers themselves... I still think the prouduct would be GREATLY improved if the WHOLE topper was adhesive, like you tore back a sheet of wax paper and the topper was a big "sticker", but there would be a little tab on one corner to help you remove it. Anyway, when your child is done you simply pick up the topper (with the contents), roll it, and dump it!
Well for babies, this is a VERY fantastic invention... Well, if you have a baby that touches everything, and is VERY curious, it may not work... My son is too interested in his cup, or his toy to be thinking about the table topper, so it works. He loves to pat his hands on it though, and he also enjoys "eating" the topper...
My toddler will occasionally "go for the topper", but if she becomes bored, she will rip the thing off in seconds... I am trying to get her to actually eat off a plastic plate (we tote around) but she still tips it over and such... She's a HUGE Elmo fanatic though, so my reward for her keeping it on, is getting to see Elmo... but yet she STILL removes the thing! I feel like toting around my OWN double sided tape to attatch to the thing, but thats sort of out there...
So I guess it really depends on your child, but I would recomend to atleast try the product, because when your child leaves it alone, its truly a fantastic solution! It also fits well in diaper bags or purses.
Customer Review: Awesome Product!!! Summary: 5 Stars
These placemats are the best! We never go anywhere without having a bunch in the diaper bag. These are excellent for fast food restaurants or any other place that looks like they don't clean their tables as well as you'd like them to. It never fails, we always have someone stop to ask us about where we got such an item... and I'm always happy to tell them! They come in quite a few designs, but not all the retail stores carry all the designs. We like the Dora and Blues Clues designs the best.
We follow the other reviewer's advice of sticking one side of the placemat to the underside of the table first. This really helps us out when my daughter attempts to stick her little fingers under the mat to pull it off the table. My only complaint is that I would have placed 4 sticky strips to the mat, one on each edge of the mat instead of just to the top and the bottom edge. This would eliminate the problem of my daughter attempting to pull the mat off the table. However, it might be a patent problem for the designer since there is another placemat out there that does have all four sides sticky (sorry, I can't remember the name of the product... they don't sell them in our neck of the woods).
My advice is to stock up on this product... buy it in the package of 20 at first so you get the cool reusable zip lock baggie to hold them... then buy the package of 50 so you don't need to keep running to BabiesRUs or BJs so often!
Customer Review: Perfect - even for germaphobes! Summary: 5 Stars
I used to use antibacterial hand sanitizer with baby wipes to clean tables (what a pain) until I saw somebody using a table topper. I went right over to ask about them. Now, I can't imagine going anywhere without them. These table toppers have brought peace of mind to me; I know longer worry what is/was on the surface of the tables. They are sanitary and very portable. A nice side benefit: the Elmo design is educatonal - my daughter picked up on the ABC, 123 just like that! The only "challenge" with these mats are that they may not stick to all surfaces. If the table is textured or has some sort of film (ie: filth) on it, the adhesive may not stick. Usually, it is the dirty table's fault; not the mat. TIP: When sticking to table, do not remove the adhesive tape on both ends. Start with the bottom tape and stick to the side of the table or even just under the edge then wrap it around to the top. (This is for sanitary reasons - there is just as much "gunk" or more on the edges and under the tabletop.) Also: Pull it just tight enough to remove any wrinkles before sticking it to the table. Any looseness may invite the infant/toddler to tear it off!
Customer Review: Table Topper Summary: 4 Stars
I admit it--I'm one of "those" parents who wipes down the restaurant highchair and the table with antibacterial wipes before my child sits down. I still do that even with these placemats, but these definitely make me more comfortable about having my toddler eat off restaurant tables.
We have used these in countless restaurants and have been quite pleased. We have found that they don't stick well to all tables, but I suppose that is to be expected. Use care when removing these placemats from wooden tables because we did remove a bit of finish from one table...oopsie! Also, our most recent batch of Table Toppers seems a bit faulty--the sticky substance on the bottom edge of the placemats is too far from the edge of the mat--leaving about 1.5 inches of loose placemat at the bottom of the mat...very tempting for our toddler to tug on!!
We always buy our daughter the Sesame Street Table Toppers and now she asks for Elmo and Zoe when she is ready to start eating at a restaurant. Such a great invention and definitely one I wish I had thought of!! :)
Customer Review: Must-Have for Parents Summary: 5 Stars
Nothing grosses me out more than watching parents make their child eat off of a table at a restaurant. Of course, watching a one year old fling their plate across the room is not a much better option. These mats are an excellent solution. They are easy to carry around-I would keep a few at a time with me whenever we would go out in case we stopped at a restaurant. They are easy to use-just peel and stick to the table. They are clean-no germs from a restaurant table. They are safe-no plates or bowls to drop or toss. They are entertaining for the child-what toddler doesn't love looking at Sesame Street characters when they eat? And clean-up is a breeze-just peel off the table and crumple the leftover food and other trash inside the mat. I was often asked by other patrons where I purchased them. They were one of the most useful products when my daughters were younger. The only downside was that my daughters knew to rip them up if they wanted to cause trouble, but if they were in that kind of mood, I shouldn't have had them at a restaurant in the first place.
