Customer Review: Organic Mattress with Plastic Cover!

It seems we shouldn't expect companies to understand what the term "organic" or "natural" mean. I don't know how these companies can get such certificates when for example this mattress could be anything but organic.
We are trying to grow our baby with natural products and avoid artificial/chemical/petrol based materials. That is why we ordered this mattress. When we received the package and opened the box, there was this 100% Organic mattress with a thick plastic cover and a heavy smell of plastic!
Of course I understand why a mattress should have a plastic cover: if there is an accident, inside the mattress should remain clean. But what I don't understand is, why should I pay about $300 when our baby is going to have no contact with the organic materials that we paid for and instead all s/he is going to get would be the plastic cover?
If the only point is to have a non toxic product, I could find so many other products in the market with multiple fancy certificates for safety and much lower price.
Today I returned the product, bought another non-organic mattress from Babies R US for $135 (with a good non toxic plastic cover) and bought an organic mattress pad for that.
I really miss my childhood's all cotton mattress. Pity, you can't find those things any more.
I gave it two stars because the mattress was firm and nicely made. Otherwise, I should give it only one star.

It has been a challenge finding products for our baby girl that are organic and made in the USA. Most "certified organic" clothing I found is made in China and sorry to say this, but I have my doubts about the regulations when it comes to organic and China.
I did not think I was going to find a crib mattress that fit my criteria, organic and made in the USA. Until I found this one.
The mattress itself is extremely well made, easy to clean and very durable. I feel that we have made the best choice we could when it comes to our girl's crib mattress. I know that it is not an inexpensive item, however after reading about the materials used in and on mattresses, we decided that our girl is worth it!
There is a version with less coils for less money as well, however I wanted to get the firmest one possible (first time mom ya know). The mattress fit our crib perfectly, looks wonderful and we are very happy with it.

Mattress is still going on strong. I use an additional organic padding under her sheet to give her a little extra softness now that she is 2.5, when she was a baby, I did not use any pads at all.
I am very happy with our choice.

As we were preparing for the birth of our first child, we discussed organic baby items. My wife and I disagreed on some things, but we definitely felt it was important to have an organic mattress as the baby will spend quite a bit of time there in his early years. I'm also a firm believer of getting good quality mattresses no matter how old you are! As we started researching organic mattresses, we learned that not all mattresses that are labeled 'organic' are of the same quality. This Naturepedic had all the boxes checked. Plus, it had a high coil count, so we knew it would be durable and provide nice support for our baby until he outgrew it. The waterproof surface is nice, as we do not have to have an additional mattress pad (we haven't had the coolness issue that other reviewers note). When it arrived it did not have any scent of a chemical smell, and has extremely good quality of materials and craftmanship.Customer Review: Healthy and authentically organic

My son was born 4 weeks early with respiratory distress syndrome. I have asthma and allergies to some cats, but not my cat. With these risk factors and the fact that more and more children have asthma these days we decided to invest our small income in a quality organic mattress. We researched what exactly are the toxins in a typical mattress. After reading about the ingredients and the toxins inhaled, I wanted an organic mattress for us as parents! Instead we just made sure that the surface our son would spend so many hours on is the safest possible to do the most important work possible; breathe. I feel reassured every time I lay him in his crib, that we made a significant effort to raise him in a healthy environment even though we can't afford to buy everthing organic.Customer Review: A fantastic mattress - no regrets

Buying a mattress for our newborn is one of the most strenuous things we had to do. The market is full of guilt-inducing claims - if you buy one that is too soft, the child's back will be damaged; if you don't buy organic, you are killing the environment, etc. So we looked long and hard for the right mattress, and we settled on this one.
Our baby is now 3 months old, and I can tell you that this is a superb mattress. I feel the quality every time I lay her head down to sleep. I know she is comfortable, and the firmness is just right. I have no regrets whatsoever in buying this mattress, and knowing what I know now, I would buy the exact same thing again. It's worth the money, and both you and your baby will sleep well at night.
